Warning[change source]

Liam, I am sorry to do this, but I becoming fed up of your behaviour on Simple English Wikipedia. You are purposely creating an edit war on my talk page which is totally unacceptable. Snake111's comment was not a personal attack, so there was no need to pretend it was. If you continue with this behaviour, you may be blocked from editing. Thank you. Billz (Talk) 21:19, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Liam, I had nothing against you when I gave the message to Billz. It was just to cheer him up, I didn't say anything that was a personal attack to you. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 00:23, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

My first edit[change source]

That's not what I truly ever believed, and that's not what I believe. I was making random vandalism edits to test how fast they would be reverted. I have since realised that the virtual sandbox is for making tests, and that Wikipedia is an encyclopædia, and has serious intent. Now, I am more dedicated to making an encyclopædia, and not making immature tests. j. rand|talk| ε contribs|email 15:02, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

reply[change source]

User:Subway had changed it. I was merely reverting his/her change. Thank you. --Isis§(talk) 19:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Large smile emoticon[change source]

Please do not use the large smile emoticon image on articles or talk pages since it can disrupt text and make the page illegible. Doing so is simply vandalism which will not be tolerated. Billz (Talk) 20:37, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

LIAM !

I couldn't agree more with Billz. It would be greatly appreciated if you would stop. Thank you, --Isis§(talk) 15:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

LIAM ! LEAVE ME ALONE  !

Billz and I were only asking you to stop doing something that was making the page harder to read. I don't see why you want the image there anyway. --Isis§(talk) 19:39, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, Isis. Please stop using the large images because it does defeat the point of an encyclopaedia if people are not able to read it! Thank you. Billz (Talk) 19:56, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

BULLIES ! LIAM !

Liam, please remember that there are more people than you on this site. We all work together to keep this place working well, but that does mean that we can't always do what we want - this isn't your website. If you do something wrong, other editors will point it out to you and try to sort it out. If you start acting like this in response to simple requests, can you really work on a community website? We'd like you to stay here and help us, but if you carry on fighting against the rest of the community, we just don't have the resources to deal with you. Please try to think this over and consider the other people that are involved in this project. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 20:45, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Archiving[change source]

Hello, Liam. Archiving is not done simply to get messages off your talk page. Thank you. --Isis§(talk) 00:37, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I've reverted Liam's changes, so the message is back on the talk page and the archive no longer exists. See my message below. Billz (Talk) 19:29, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Re:Hello (That is british english for hi, or hey)[change source]

What about "Sayonara?" Maybe most people know what "Konnichiwa" means, but say I didn't put in the English meaning, and some guy who lives in China came across that word. They might say "Huh?" That could go for that "Bonjour" in your userpage too. Panda Bear 03:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Main Page[change source]

I just think they're too thick and will distract people from the test inside the box. It's like this revision, too strong a colour is distracting.
But if you want to keep it, fine with me. You just wanted people's opinons and I gave mine.
Gwib-(talk)- 18:12, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Well look at English Wiki. The boarders there are pale, really thin and almost invisible. Your ones are black and distracting. Why do you think people put words that are important in bold? So that they are more noticable and attention is drawn to them.
But if you want to ignore it, fine. The rest of the page is good and maybe not everyone would agree with me on my point.
Gwib-(talk)- 19:02, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Liam, take a look at the comment you just posted. "DO NOT compare mine to that mess. Mine has integrity, and I have read before in a design book that thick borders are more user-friendly. MINE does not look like a kids website, and I have a colour theme throughout. I don't put purple against blue links. To compare mine to that TRASH is embarrassing."
That 'trash' is someone else's work. No matter how you think about it, think how the other person might feel about you saying that. It goes back to what I said last night (before you removed it). You must start thinking about other people and how they might feel in a community website, otherwise it just won't work. Archer7 - talk 19:09, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
If you mean Ionas saying in the edit history about something being "ugly", that's a little different to what you said about it then. If I say that I am ugly for example, it doesn't mean everyone else is allowed to agree and then go into detail about how particularly ugly I am. You say that this is "none of my business" - it is expected of an admin to try and sort out problems and resolve disputes before they cause any disruption, so I believe that it is my business. I am doing my best to talk to you reasonably and politely, yet you aren't treating me the same way. If you'd like to explain any of this, please do so on my talk page. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 22:37, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Would you like me to move your main page test to your user namespace, similar to what I did with my Main Page test? If the page remains in a "public place" like it is now, you can't really say that no one else can edit it. · Tygartl1·talk· 14:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

The page is now at User:Liam.gloucester/Main Page. I have corrected everything that linked to the original page. Billz (Talk) 15:23, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't see why you want the title to be at main page/test 2. If it is your page, why shouldn't it be in your namespace? --Isis§(talk) 16:34, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
I never asked your permission to move the page, because I knew how you'd react. You repeatedly reminded people that they could not edit the page and it was yours. Personal pages should be kept in your namespace, hence why I moved it, and everything in the mainspace can be edited by the community.
I'm not too sure why you are trying to make your own Main Page, but that is up to you and I wish you luck with it. That said, the way you have spoken to myself and other Wikipedians was very harsh and rude. I'm not sure whether you meant them to be rude, but using upper case is considered shouting and should be avoided. If you continue to speak in this way, then I shall have to block you, in order for you to calm down.
Billz (Talk) 17:41, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

  • A very thick border goes well with less text in the middle. That way the border is eye-catching. (source)
  • Hyperlink Borders - When you use an image as a link, by default there is a border around the image, in the link color. This border is extremely ugly. Under NO circumstances should you allow a border to exist around an image. Would you like to look at an ugly thick blue border around your image? I didn't think so. (source)
  • "I agree that the shadow at the top as well as the thick black border are a little distracting ..." (source)
  • "My thinking of what a highlight looks like is a thick border that surrounds text, but that very slowly pulses. This is not something that I’ve ever seen done on the internet (I don’t know if it’s possible using standard languages like HTML etc) so it would draw attention to it as not being a normal part of the web page, but not be too distracting as to be annoying (much less so than most of the animated ads on many pages). Time stamp[change source]

Hello. For your signature, can you put five tildes after it so a timestamp is included? You don't have to, but it would be helpful. --Isis§(talk) 18:08, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Why do you not want the time stamp? --Isis§(talk) 18:53, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. :) --Isis§(talk) 18:56, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh. That's UTC, universal time code. Your time zone may be different. My time zone is several hours off. It doesn't really matter, but, like I said, you don't have to use it if you dont want to. --Isis§(talk) 14:17, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Archiving[change source]

The process of archiving is to keep your talk page at a reasonable length and it should be done in equal sections with the oldest messages first. You exploited archiving, to remove warnings from your talk page, such as you did to remove the warning about using giant smile emoticons.

I have put this message back on your page and deleted that archive. I am also putting a conditional ban on you creating archives, meaning you cannot create any more archives until you have got permission to do so. Any archives you do create will be deleted and the messages moved back to your talk page.

Billz (Talk) 19:26, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

You created an archive simply to hide a very important warning, which is not allowed on Simple English Wikipedia. It was obvious that you were simply hiding this warning, because you didn't archive messages older than the warning.
When your talk page becomes too long to manage, I will archive it for you, to ensure that it is done fairly. Please do not create archives until you have permission to do so, otherwise they will simply be deleted and the messages moved back to your talk page.
Billz (Talk) 14:45, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
As I have said already, I will archive it when it becomes too long to manage. You have abused archiving, so you have a conditional ban on creating further archives. If you break this ban, you will be blocked for a substantial time.
Regarding a block to calm you down, it will be issued if you continue to talk nastily to other members, as you have done over the past few days. Such messages can be considered personal attacks, and you will be blocked if you continue. This block is at the discretion of a sysop (Myself or one of the administrator team) and will be issued as and when necessary unless you calm down.
Billz (Talk) 20:50, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
No, I said that you will not be able to archive until you have my permission. I did not mean that you should ask for my permission in order to archive and would appreciate it if you didn't. When I feel that your talk page is becoming too long, I will archive. After some time, when I feel you can be trusted to archive and not abuse the system, I will cancel the conditional ban.
Please do not ask for permission from me, as it will simply be denied and could cause a longer archiving ban. Thank you. Billz (Talk) 21:29, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
I issued the conditional ban, so therefore I am the sysop dealing with the matter. Therefore, I will choose what will be archived and will sort out the archives so they have the same number of messages and are in the correct order. When you can be trusted again, I will cancel the ban.
I'm sorry if you disagree with this ban, but it is necessary for the community and builds trust between contributors. Billz (Talk) 21:36, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
When a page becomes too long, some browsers can find it difficult to read the page, hence why most users archive. I will decide when your page needs to be archived.
I have just seen your message to Sean and I don't agree that the "Whole" community would appreciate it. Personally, I have no trouble with the page, regardless of whether he archives it and I'm sure many people feel the same. Please don't make assumptions like this in the future. Billz (Talk) 21:47, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Since you decided to abuse archives, I am well within my rights to "Control" the creation of your archives, hence why I put a conditional ban on you creating archives. As I have previously said, when your page needs archiving, I will do it, but only when I feel it necessary. I am not being unfair, it was you that exploited archives in order to hide important messages. When I feel you can be trusted to archive, I will give you permission to do so. Billz (Talk) 08:40, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Liam! Regarind all the discussion which have taken place about your talk page archival: I'm not going to defend anyone here, but please understand that there is no benefit in arguing any more. If I were you, I'd let Billz do this, and by regarding him, I'd show my good-faith to others. Well, just my two cents.... - Huji reply 12:24, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Liam.gloucester, I am not sure where you got the idea that Billz has something against you. He has simply been dealing with you more than the other admins. If any of the other admins were in his place, you would say they had something against you. Personally, I think this whole thing is silly. Just let Billz archive your page when needed. It's not as if he's trying to get you frustrated, you are making it that way. --Isis§(talk) 13:44, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
I'd just like to add that I have absolutely nothing against you, Liam, and I hope that you are able to see that. If you do something wrong, then I will treat you as I would treat any other contributor, including a sysop. When you archived to hide a message, I felt action had to be taken to ensure it didn't happen again, hence the conditional ban.
Ever since I put this ban on you, you have continued to argue and have aggravated the situation and caused more problems. I'm sorry if you disagreed with my decision, but I did it to protect the community, and to bring clarity, not because I had a problem with you.
I have been dealing with you a lot more than the other sysops because I know the situation and I feel that I know the Wikipedia rules. Obviously, you are free to oppose my decisions, but continually arguing does not help anything. I hope that it is clear that I have nothing personal against you and I treat you like I would treat anybody else. Thank you. Billz (Talk) 16:11, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Jimi Hendrix[change source]

Why do you oppose Jimi Hendrix becoming a very good article? Please give a reason why you think it doesn't meet the standards so that it can be changed accordingly. Or is this just on a personal level because I said that the boarders were too thick?

"Famous architect"[change source]

Apparently, she isn't famous enough, since she doesn't have a page on simple wikipedia, and only a two paragraph article on english wikipedia, along with the comment "The title conceptual artist would be more appropriate for this lady, placing her amongst other minimally- or questionably-talented artists (sic) such as Mrs John Lennon." posted on the talk page.
I could find you a dozen more comments like that one by the general public and not just some paid magazine.
Gwib-(talk)- 17:12, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Zaha Hadid[change source]

"But Zaha Hadid is also an awful choice for the Pritzker. She is well known for her inability to translate her ideas into realistic projects, let alone finished buildings--of which she has a mere six to her name." (source)

"Everyone knows zaha is nearly as bad as santiago calatrava" (source)

"I’m getting really f-cking sick of seeing zaha’s sh-t EVERYWHERE…all the same.. all really UGLY. STOP IT ALREADY.. PLEASE… " (source)

"Enough Zaha. And yes… Pritzer Prize these days worth nothing" (source)

"We see a Zaha’s project, we see them all…" (source)

Want more? Just ask, I could find ten put-downers for every one of your good comments about her and her work. And please include all comments about her in one subarticle on my talk page, creating new ones for the same subject is memory consuming and unnecessary. Thanks!
Gwib-(talk)- 16:41, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm not going to find more comments about how bad your Zaha Hadid is, and belive me, there are plenty out there. I no longer deem this petty arguement worthy of being continued, especially by someone who has such a blatant disregard for the rules. I think the boarders are too thick, you don't think that the boarders are too thick. That is THE END of the arguement, full stop, finito, fin. Apparently, Zaha Hadid also thinks that your boarders are fine, but she AND I QUOTE YOUR INTERVIEW "for a short period of time, Zaha Hadid designed web pages" , why do you think she only did it for a (once again) "short period of time"? I'll leave you to ponder on that and please sign your messages on my talk page.
Gwib-(talk)- 21:17, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm in college and I can actually manage my time efficiently so that I have time for Wiki, school work and friends, so why couldn't she? Maybe it was for a fun little "fling" and she wasn't seriously considering it. Maybe she was so bad at it that she had to stop. Maybe she just couldn't manage her time. Either way, she stopped and hasn't been doing it since.

As for the bloggers, people on forums often show their gratitude towards other people or friends in a very exaggerated way, for example Ted Nugent is God. They admire him and wish to compare him to God, so what? Just because they say things like that doesn't mean that their opinions don't count. Look at all the Chuck Norris fan sites out there saying things like "Chuck Norris made love to a truck and Optimus Prime was the results", he DIDN'T make love to a truck, but to exaggerate Chuck Norris' awesomeness, they choose to display it in that manner. It doens't make them any less clever or able to distingush the awful from the alright.

Feel free to rant on, it's just an embarressement for yourself.
Gwib-(talk)- 22:09, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if you realise this but bloggers actually make up the majority of our population, and they all have the same rights that non-bloggers do. Therefore what bloggers think matters.
If you were running for president, then you would want to appease to the majority, and in this case, the majority are the bloggers and what their opinions are, are the deciding opinons.
Plus Andy Warhol drew loads of other things apart from soup cans, so your arguement falls flat on its face.
Once again, I know you won't change your boarders, but if you're too pathetic and narcissistic to accept critisism (God knows Zaha Hadid has done) then maybe you should just delete your account altogether.

Gwib-(talk)- 13:42, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Don't play the threatening card, what about your recent comment: "because she was in f-cking American University of Beirut !"? Swearing is unnecessary and violent.
I haven't threatened you in any way, I've deeply critisised you for your lack of open-mindness. You refused to accept that one or two people thought that your masterpiece had it's faults. For you, it was perfect and what anyone else thought was wrong.
Gwib-(talk)- 14:24, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Just cast your eyes onto this webpage. Apparently, the number of blog sites exceeds 50 MILLION and that was before Facebook. Now, 2 years have passed and I think that number has probably increased eeeever so slightly because of popular demand and keep in mind that even if only two people use those blog sites, that's already over 100 MILLION, three people, 150 MILLION and if 6 people use each site, the amount of people on blogs will equal the POPULATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
