deleted page Ivane Matchavariani[change source]

Hello! I noticed you deleted my page about Ivane Matchavariani by duplicate reason with Ivane Machavariani page. but original page have important error in surname "Machavariani", just title have this error, in text everything's is ok.

so, we are need to restore page Ivane Matchavariani and delete Ivane Machavariani as a wrong duplicate

No, because we follow En wiki in such cases. In any event, you are spelling in English, and his name is a translation from Georgian, which is a different script, right? Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:17, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with table on far future[change source]

You reverted the edits on far future. I showed that the previous (before reverting) edit was

The edit after reverting was

Can you revert the edits made by yourself? 112358macOS1321 (talk) 08:48, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation[change source]

Hello Macdonald-ross, I Space chinedu would like to invite you to join WikiProject History and WikiProject Medicine because I believe that you can make an impact in these Wikiprojects. If you believe that you want to join or not please let me know Space chinedu (talk) 10:07, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You will find out that there are not enough regular editors here to run En wiki-type projects. We've tried it before. I have no qualifications in history, and I'm not a member of En wiki's Project Medicine. But really, I do as much as I can already, and the rest of my life is spent staying alive! Cheers, Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:27, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notablity[change source]

I think "Mk Sabbir Rahman" is notable for a wiki page. Please check again and remove rdf Mksabbir9866 (talk) 21:24, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we please restore that? We can move it to a sandbox in my userspace if you'd prefer. It's an article we can definitely get worked into something better.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 15:31, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this facility is notable, but I will revert so it can be worked on. Macdonald-ross (talk) 15:34, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I put a little bit of work into it, and I'll try to do some more later on. I am finding it more difficult than I anticipated to find reliable third party sources. Even the EN article is plagued by primary sourcing and text that boarders on advertising. If you're so inspired, I wouldn't be offended by an RFD discussion and would probably be on the fence, due to the difficulty in third party sourcing. An interesting case, imo.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:11, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are a lot of chess websites these days. They offer usually one of three things:
  1. Playing against humans or engines (machines)
  2. Instruction
  3. Data bases of games
Because there are so many, comes the need for them to show notability in some way, because a small few are just rubbish. The better ones are reviewed in magazines, and some reviews are available on the web.
There is information relevant to notability on the English WP version.
Macdonald-ross (talk) 20:22, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For sure. I expected to find more third party sourcing on the tournaments they've held with the St Louis Chess club in particular, and it is a little scarce. I'll keep digging. --Gordonrox24 | Talk 20:40, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to add this page, as it is a real video game, but you deleted it in 2019. I'd just asking you because I don't want to get in trouble, as I've seen recreated pages get deleted and their creators warned. Elytrian - Talk 03:52, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You may be talking about the page on En wiki with the strange title 0x10c. It was listed for deletion, but is now accepted. As they now accept it, the presumption is that we can accept it. Just be aware that notability has to be evidenced on our pages. It is by ourselves being careful to follow the requirements that we show others what the rules are. I would stick with the En wiki version of the title if I were you. Macdonald-ross (talk) 05:00, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking 79.67.173.152[change source]

Hello Macdonald-ross, is it possible to block unregistered user 79.67.173.152 for their persistent removal of content and vandalism of Hal Holbrook and Christopher Plummer. They have been warned multiple times and their edits have been reverted multiple times as well. Also side note: whenever you can, can you give a look at Carter and Kennedy's VGA nom since its been awhile they've received feedback. Thank you! --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:50, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Ep blocked him for a month. Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:07, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I blocked him for a month, after his last block (June, also a month) expired. In addition I semi-protected both pages; it was not the only IP doing problematic changes.--Eptalon (talk) 07:42, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ddragoner[change source]

I see that you blocked this user for 2 weeks for creating bad pages. However, they never received any warnings about direct copying from enwiki. I think a warning would have been more appropriate than just blocking. (QD notices are not warnings.) --Auntof6 (talk) 20:07, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

circumcision[change source]

Hello, I see you made a change at the circumcision page, but it was wrong, because to your knowledge...only in USA as a western country, the majority of male are cirumcised without religious reasons. In other western countrys like europe, circumcison without religious background is rarely. --Nalanidil (talk) 15:38, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, no nonsense, inform you, I do know about this topic, but with someone as unknowing as you are on this subject, there is no point in arguing.

Redirect[change source]

Hey Mac - Can you change that redirect to Human digestive system right now the way you set it is 3 redirects before you get to it. Thx! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 08:55, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have to think about this. We're stuck with something which makes sense to children, but is not sensible on a broader scale. I know that children will always interpret "digestive system" as the human one, but of course most animals have one. We ought to have pages in gradation, like "all animals absorb or eat food" then vertebrate alimentary canals, then human digestive system. Also, there is a sense in which "alimentary canal" narrows the field down whereas "digestive systems" is much broader. I'm going to think about this for a while because it's the kind of thing which keeps occurring until one gets it right. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:12, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t think the word “alimentary” falls within the spectrum of simple. But the first page you send it to is a redirect to a redirect page, can we skip that and go to the article it links to? Less clicks to get to the content. But the question to your statement is does an animal also have this specific layout of their system or is their digestive system laid out differently? PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 09:18, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @PotsdamLamb: Two things: we shouldn't have any double redirects (that is, a redirect that points to a redirect), but I think we have a bot that fixes them. When there is a chain of more than two, the bot might not fix the whole chain in one run, but it should eventually fix them.
Second, many animals' digestive systems are similar to the human digestive system, but some are different. For example, the stomach of ruminants (for example, cows) has four chambers, each of which does a different function. If you want to consider non-mammals, birds have organs that humans don't have, such as the crop and the gizzard. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:42, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 I don’t like birds especially after I just spent money to have my truck washed and detailed lol. But the article that was written maybe be merged into another longer one that already has it? I can look and provide thoughts later. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 10:48, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've reviewed the page Digestion and think it is aimed quite well for our readership. The page Digestive system is in reasonable shape. Of course the pages are based almost entirely upon Man and vertebrates in general. Starfish eating shellfish and pitcher plants eating insects are examples of where the pages might go to if one was to be more inclusive. The one thing they all have in common is dissolving the food. Macdonald-ross (talk) 17:54, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about warnings[change source]

Sorry to bother you, but an IP has recently been copying articles directly from en.wiki. After I warned them with the uw-encopypaste template, I wasn't sure if I should use the copyright series or the vandalism series as they continue to do so, or if I do something else? Fixing26 (talk) 18:41, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Fixing26 Typically after the 4th warning, if they continue to do it you can post on WP:VIP. You should also be marking these as QD if they are exact copies from that site. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 18:44, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I should've been clearer in my initial question; Do I warn them for vandalism or copyright? Fixing26 (talk) 18:45, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Fixing26, I think you should warn them for copyright. --Ferien (talk) 18:53, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Fixing26 If you are using Twinkle select the copy from another site. We do get it a lot where they copy one or two sentences over that may be simplified and any info boxes don’t count as copyright because they are a template. A lot of times if it is something small you can just make some changes to the wording and it will be fine but you can still warn them before hand then nominate for QD. A QD does not count as a warning either :/ per some admins so it’s better to be safe than sorry. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 19:07, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Vandalism is a general attempt to mess up Wikipedia articles; Copyvio is the unacknowledged use of text and graphics from another copyrighted source. The copied text needs to be distinct enough (or extensive enough) to be realistically the creative work of someone else. Copyright in general is dealt with under WP:Copyrights#Reusers' rights and obligations. On this wiki we choose to regard extensive copying from En wiki as a copyvio because it fails to acknowledge the original authors. In addition it is usually a violation of our guidelines on using simple language on this wiki. Wikipedia exempts data structures such as taxoboxes or graphics from Wikimedia Commons from this restriction. Commons only has graphics which are free of copyright restrictions. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:44, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new to Wikipedia. I have posted an article on the topic good night, sleep tight

May I know the reason for the deletion

The first time it was the language I wrote. so I added that article in English. But that too deleted

Dear Sir, I am not able to create my page. You unblock it.[change source]

Hey Mac, hope all is well. What would be a better way to simplify that article? I was trying to think of simple words to use since it’s part of the taxonbar. You have more experience with science than I do as that seems to be one of your favorite domains to work in. Thanks! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? If by EPPO you mean the plant protection organisation based in Paris, I don't know anything about it. If you mean the EPPO code, I'm just as ignorant about that! The En wiki page has this summary: "EPPO's objectives are to protect plants, to develop international strategies against the introduction and spread of dangerous pests, and to promote safe and effective control methods". I don't know anything about the EPPO code other than what I read on the En wiki page. It makes me think the page we need is something like "The growth of bureaucracy in the modern world"...
Well, I think it's notable, of course. The phrase "uniquely identify organisms" is a reminder that the constant use of local names is the source of many problems, which is exactly why the Linnaean system was devised. Also, the use of computers means that databases can keep records of genome information on pests, which is an even more precise way of identifying an organism. This is particularly important for bacteria and viruses, which can change their genetic codes relatively quickly.
Their comments about taxonomy seem rather self-serving. It evades the fact that Zea mays (a key example of theirs) exists in many genetic forms, but it has not changed its Linnaean name, and so is not an example of how their system is more stable!
