A template you might find useful

Hey. I just saw this and remembered your post to User talk:Karen Rose Perez Roque. Don't know if you already knew of it, but thought it might save you some time in the future. Osiris (talk) 18:08, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't even know it existed! Thanks for the note. -Orashmatash (talk) 18:09, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I want free edits

I want free edits to artificially inflate my edit count without actually doing the work.. (ok so i previously did the work, but thats not good enough!).

Could you undelete my userpage. (plus the red name gets annoying at times, though easy to spot in a crowd) --Creol(talk) 07:46, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Let me know if you want your subpages restored as well. -Orashmatash (talk) 16:03, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lamian

Hello Orashmatash. I've already contacted Osiris about the QD on Lamian, but he seems to be offline. Is this page eligible for deletion, currently? --Bmusician 07:38, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is simple enough now. -Orashmatash (talk) 07:38, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How embarrassing

The Helping Hand Barnstar

Facepalm. I forgot that I wasn't actually using monobook. So it works perfectly, actually. Thank you so much for doing that for me. I'm such a noob. Please don't tell anyone about this. Osiris (talk) 18:27, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Haha! You're very welcome, though it was probably my fault since User:Osiris/skin.js redirected me to User:Osiris/monobook.js. -Orashmatash (talk) 18:58, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

deletion

Hi. I see you decided not to delete Sadahiro Takahashi. Can you delete it on A4, since this football player never actually played for Japan. Sitting on a bench doesn't establish notability. Thank you - Cloudz679 (talk) 21:26, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's gone now. Articles aren't deleted per A3 unless they are complex. -Orashmatash (talk) 21:30, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Qd-attack

I think if there is an attack page on this wiki, the page would need to be blanked and noindexed, similar to something like User:Bmusician/Sandbox/Qd-attack. What do you think? --Bmusician 05:37, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that makes sense. -Orashmatash (talk) 12:06, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Hey again! Could you please flood-flag me? Adding more navboxes to orphans. Osiris (talk) 16:13, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Remember to log out then back in to AWB so the flood flag can take effect. Drop me a message when you're done. -Orashmatash (talk) 16:14, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that! I'm finished. Sorry I took so long. Ended up ticking some other things off too. Osiris (talk) 18:11, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Removed. :) -Orashmatash (talk) 18:14, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You might be interested in this. I've warned the user, but haven't really looked into the dispute. Osiris (talk) 13:23, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I see. It looks like Chen is cleaning it up now, so I'll leave it. :) Osiris (talk) 16:24, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Curious

What did those accounts due that was abusing accounts? Just curious because it is allowable to have multiple accounts in some situations. Also curious what makes you think they are the same account? -DJSasso (talk) 16:20, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was a duck. See the other blocks on users with Japanese characters as usernames creating new accounts using numbers as the reason. I believe it is JAWP long-term abuse. If you're still not convinced, see this. -Orashmatash (talk) 16:21, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, jawiki lta. See my recent blocks/CUs. -Barras talk 16:48, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Are you busy? Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 18:33, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, why? :) -Orashmatash (talk) 18:34, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think Alexis Jordan is GA ready? Thanks, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 18:35, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The early life and career beginnings section could probably do with a copy edit. You may also want to get the opinions of some others as I'm not much interested in GA reviewing anymore unfortunately. -Orashmatash (talk) 19:06, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alright thanks :D Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 19:42, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When to archive a link?

I have some related questions:

  • A. I don't have the vocabulary I think I need. For example, I know what a dead link is, but what is the term for online cites that are likely to "die"? Are they "fugitive"? "emphemeral"? Where can I begin to look for useful jargon?
  • B. In some cases, I think that a cited link is likely to be accessible far into the future -- for example, cites which link to the Library of Congress or the National Diet Library ... but sometimes I have guessed wrong. For example, I learned the hard way when links "died" at the National Archives of Japan. I have learned how to create an archived copy of a webpage, but sometimes it is unhelpful to limit the evolving changes which unfold. How can I begin to parse decision-making more effectively?
  • C. In 2010, Nameless User added a useful cite to an article about a Japanese footballer here. At some point in the future when this player leaves the Kawasaki Frontale football club, we can predict that the webpage will be discontinued. What factors are important in deciding whether to convert this link to an archived version?
  • D. Can you suggest improvements in this draft format for an archived citation?
<:ref>Kawasaki Frontale, 相澤貴志 (in Japanese), archived; retrieved 2012-3-20.</ref>

Are you willing and able to help me with these kinds of issues? Is this an appropriate kind of question to ask you? --Horeki (talk) 17:18, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to answer your query. For point A, I'm not quite sure if there is a term to refer to links that are likely to "die". There are also multiple Internet search engines which can help you find the vocabulary you think you need. For point C, I would agree that when the player leaves the club, the page will likely be taken down. A good factor which could help decide whether or not to archive a link could be to check if that club has kept pages on footballers that have retired from their club on the website. If they have, the link will probably not be taken down. I'm not really someone who has worked extensively with sources so I'm afraid I can't help you much with things to do with archived citations. I am not quite sure how to answer point B, so if you could maybe expand a little bit it would help me help you. I hope this helps. -Orashmatash (talk) 17:46, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Your responses are helpful. --Horeki (talk) 00:18, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Qd

I have drafted a new QD template User:Bmusician/Sandbox/QD here, and I think it is better than the current one because:

  1. It tells the tagger that no reason has been specified if they don't specify.
  2. The template tells readers that the page's talk page has content on its talk page if it does.
  3. The template's concluding paragraph is phrased better.

Bmusician 10:45, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All that is something we probably should have had earlier actually... Sounds good. -Orashmatash (talk) 16:30, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Big Bridge Weekend

This is a follow-up to your diff here.

Just a reminder about a plausible interest in bridges ....

Bridges of Scotland

Perhaps the "Big Bridge Weekend" will spark a investment of time in improving our articles about this subject? --Horeki (talk) 18:08, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think so. Thanks for the list! -Orashmatash (talk) 18:28, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey mate. This looks like a dud, asking for Discospinster (an enwiki admin) to unblock the account "Dudephat", which was blocked here. He's on the wrong wiki. Osiris (talk) 01:03, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a note. Hopefully that will be the end of it. -Orashmatash (talk) 01:30, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Osiris (talk) 01:32, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for this. I tend to forget about that inline template, and it is much nicer. Unless you're planning to (maybe to get some edits for the BBW?), I'll go back and make that change to the other articles I added the commons tag to. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:17, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! I'd be happy to go around and move {{commonscat}}s to the 'other websites' sections and if they are empty move them to 'inline' ones. -Orashmatash (talk) 21:29, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Have at it! --Auntof6 (talk) 21:30, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm done for tonight, I'll maybe do some more tomorrow. -Orashmatash (talk) 22:17, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Good luck with the tools, and don't hesitate to ask if you need help with anything. -Orashmatash (talk) 15:09, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, now I'm just going to bother you aren't I? ;)
Say, that new user on RC, ‎Azad.hazara (talk · contribs). It's Shabir (talk · contribs) from last week, I'm sure. A checkuser will be useless as I recall him jumping multiple IP's within the space of a few hours (see them all on this page). Not sure what to do there, but look out for copyright violations. Osiris (talk) 15:27, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to be taken care of. My apologies for not reponding sooner, my internet just cut off and it took me a while to work out the problem and fix it. -Orashmatash (talk) 16:26, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh that's cool. He admitted being the same person. He's got an open unblock request if you want to take a look at that. I don't really want to review my own blocks. Osiris (talk) 16:29, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also seems to be taken care of. My internet has not been working correctly since yesterday and it's still not 100% fixed... :( -Orashmatash (talk) 15:58, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
