New categories[change source]

Hello, Mia. Thanks for your contributions here. You probably didn't know, but here on Simple English Wikipedia we want at least three entries in every new category. You can read about that at Wikipedia:Categories#Is there a need for the new category?. Most of the castle categories you created had only one or two entries, so I am going to recategorize the articles and delete the categories. Feel free to recreate them when there are three or more entries. If you create more categories, please be sure that there are already at least three entries ready to go into them, and put them in right away. Thanks, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:32, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I'll bear that in mid in future. Thanks for letting me know. --Mia (talk) 20:13, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please use edit summaries[change source]

Would you please use edit summaries? The only ones I see for your changes are the default ones automatically used if you don't enter one for a new page. Thanks.

By the way, you're making good contributions here -- thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 09:37, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see what you mean, I think - I'll give it a go. And thanks for the thanks - :-) Mia (talk) 09:40, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question[change source]

Why did you remove the category code with this edit? --Auntof6 (talk) 12:01, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that's why I should have been using edit summaries all along. I noticed after I added the template to Belfast that it added the category 'Cities in the United Kingdom' to Belfast. But Belfast was already indirectly under that category via category 'Belfast', which is in category 'Cities in Northern Ireland'. And hence the category 'Cities in the United Kingdom' had 'Belfast' and 'Cities in Northern Ireland' (which had 'Belfast') under it. That seemed logically wrong. Mia (talk) 12:38, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It is logically wrong. However, that template had a way to suppress the category. Did you check all cities that use the template to see if they were also in an appropriate category? You might have accidentally removed them from city categories altogether. I'd rather see the category back in the template, and cities that need to can suppress the category. That way it will stay in synch with the corresponding template in other languages. Can you take care of that? If you put it back, I can figure out the right code to suppress the category, then you can add that to the Northern Ireland cities. --Auntof6 (talk) 13:21, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, I found an example: look at Carlisle, it suppresses the category. --Auntof6 (talk) 13:24, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, my mistake. I've restored the template and added the suppression code to Belfast. Sorry about that. Mia (talk) 13:30, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suppressing template categories with "nocat"[change source]

I see the note about this on your user page. Just be aware that some templates that assign categories don't have the "nocat" option. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:06, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Noted, thanks. Mia (talk) 23:09, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you can, please expand this article a bit. We prefer not to have articles that just say something like "X is a place in Y". Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:27, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do my best! There's so much to write - it is knowing where to start! Mia (talk) 22:58, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
