Welcome to my talk page!

Welcome

Hello, Microchip08, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing! -  BrownE34  talk  contribs  14:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

P.S. I'm not an admin, but I know we look for around 1,000 edits and/or around 3-4 months of activity to become an admin here. Good luck and have fun! -  BrownE34  talk  contribs  14:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

B-Class

Just to let you know, we are not like the English Wikipedia. We do not have classes of articles. Also, I do not think that there is any need for any of the pages that you just created. We are a small Wikipedia, and I am almost completely sure that we are too small to have any kind of use for those pages. Cheers, Razorflame 14:52, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Sola scriptura

Please look at the article again. If you find, it's simple enough please take the tag complex out. If you find, it's still to complex please simplify or tell me what is too difficult. --Cethegus (talk) 16:21, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Stonehenge

No harm in it, plus I added the thumb parameter which forces it to the manual of style size and adds a frame. Looks better in my opinion, but, of course, if you disagree then change it to what you like. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:24, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Classes

That link you keep posting saying why you thought we had classes links to user space page not a project page. Anything in the user space, ie: starts with "User:" is not official. Thanks, -  EchoBravo  contribs  18:35, 17 April 2008 (UTC) Yes check.svg Done Microchip 08Sign! 18:41, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I deleted the redirect as it was misleading. The user created a redirect to make it look like the page was a project page, but it's not. No worries, I just couldn't initially understand the situation with that page. Thank -  EchoBravo  contribs  18:45, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Warnings users

Here at the Simple English Wikipedia, we usually start off with a test1 warning. Unlike at the English Wikipedia, where a test1 warning is a good faith warning, here, it isn't. Cheers, Razorflame 18:51, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Use whichever warning level you feel is appropriate. A test1 warning by definition is a good faith warning so I really don't know what Razor means. If a person inserts nonsense, I start them with a test2, if they remove content a 2a, if they insert racist slurs or particularly bad language test3. It just depends. -  EchoBravo  contribs  18:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Bah, I have no idea what I was talking about, either. Cheers, Razorflame 18:56, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, as it looks like you are all watching my user talk, do I increase them one by one (incrementally), or do I stick with one and post it a few times? Or ignore him every so often? This guy now is actually requesting a block...
/me looks for a version of WP:AIV, and finds one
You know, I keep getting flagged by the bots at #cvn-simplewikis on IRC as a vandal... Microchip 08Sign! 19:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
I wouldn't repeat the same warning. If you've given them a chance to read your warning and they do more edits, warn them again. Generally going up incrementally. As far as IRC is concerned I'm terribly familiar with all the goings on there. Also, we all have a tendency to watch everyone's talk pages so it's best just to reply to a message on the talk page where the conversation began. -  EchoBravo  contribs  19:11, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Also, use the {{anon}} template instead of the {{welcome}} template with IP addresses. We try to encourage them to create an actual account. -  EchoBravo  contribs  19:21, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Creating articles

Hey Microchip08, if you do create an article like Regent (which is cool!), can you try to add a category to it and add the inter-wiki links, usually best from the en-wiki? Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:31, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Cat redirects

Please note that categories should not be redirected the normal way using #REDIRECT [[Category:Name]]. They must be redirected using {{catredirect|Category:Name}} instead.-- Lights  talk  10:27, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. Microchip 08Sign! 10:30, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Proposed projects

The general consensus on SE:WP is that all proposed wikiprojects need to be kept entirely in the userspace until such time that they are adopted by the general community. This practice is the accepted norm due to problems with projects being created and later abandoned when there is little or no interest other than the creator. Because of our small number of editors here and their wide range of interests in topics, it is very hard to get enough involvement is such projects. The restrictions on projects includes all templates and the marking of non-user pages. -- Creol(talk) 12:37, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

OK, I'll finish this up and move into my userspace. Microchip 08Sign! 12:41, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Userboxes

Please create userboxes in your namespace from now on. We have decided that userboxes should not be created in the template spaces as we are not a big enough Wikipedia to have userboxes in the template space. Cheers, Razorflame 15:06, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Hang on... which userbox? Microchip 08Sign! 15:11, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Template:User status, Cheers Razorflame 15:12, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Template:Redlinks

To tell you the truth, I would prefer you just add the category Category:Pages with excessive redlinks instead of this template. Cheers, Razorflame 15:31, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Put it up for debate, then. Microchip 08Sign! 15:55, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Edit summaries

I wouldn't recommend using edit summaries with only faces in them. The purpose of edit summaries is to give a brief descreption of what you did when you changed the page, and a face usually doesn't tell anything about what you did. Cheers and have a nice day,-- Lights  talk  18:11, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

No

I did copy it from the English, but I spent hours simplifying it. It wasn't just copied like it said. Don't delete it. Thanks, AmericanEagle 18:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I did change it. It was a little complex, I am still planning on simplifying it, it was too hard to make perfect in one turn. But I did spend several hours doing it today and yesterday. Thanks, AmericanEagle 18:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

User:Capyrain

I just got trout slapped!

Why did you welcome this user when this user has obviously been trying to make self-advertising pages about him/herself on this site on various IP addresses' userpages? Usually, when we welcome a user, we want to make sure that we are welcoming people who are going to be helpful editors, and not vandals. Thank you for at least trying to help out. Cheers, Razorflame 19:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Because one of the articles (Dmitri Kapyrin) looked like it was a legitimate article. However, I see now that the names have a resemblance! Oops. Microchip 08Sign! 19:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

QD tags

Please always use Google before claiming an article not notable. I think a band with 536.000 hits on google is quite notable. They are also signed with Nuclear Blast a quite large metal label. Please think before tagging^^. Thanks The life of brian (talk) 14:09, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually, it says The article does not explain why the subject is notable. - it might be notable, but if it doesn't say... and anyway, I took it off. Microchip 08Sign! 14:19, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Tags

I am kind of curious as to why you are tagging articles with no interwikis. Given that you have about 650 articles to go and they are already all tracked by the system with a report all their own (Special:WithoutInterwiki), it realy seems a waste of time to just tag them for a category as well as the special page. Also, with the image request tag, that one is going to be needed on (conservatively) 10k pages. Most of our pages are in need of images, it would be easier to tag the ones that have images. (The same would apply to red-links.. and exactly how many is too many?) -- Creol(talk) 14:50, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, I didn't know about the Special:WithoutInterwiki page... I suppose I should have checked first. The red-link one, I would say that "Excessive redlinks" would be, for instance Ducktales... but I've put a merge proposal on that anyway... so I don't really know. Anything that has a sea of red... I'm actually surprised people are making articles, when there's a thousand they could be getting on with improving... Oh, and it gives me something to do ;-). Second trout-slap.... :)

It's me, Fusionmix, from EN, just wanted to drop by and say hello! TheWolf 20:26, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

^_^. Just to let you know, the "chip" part of your sig is currently linking to a redlink. Might want to change it to link to this page instead. TheWolf 21:53, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Your AWB bot

This difference would probably make an AWB bot work. However, you would have to remove all the other functions. I think that having a bot that adds the date to tags placed onto pages would be an excellent use for a bot. Cheers, Razorflame 15:02, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Randomness

Your random color generator now switches depending on the second rather than hours or minutes. -- Creol(talk) 14:19, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
