RyanCross' RfA thanks[change source]

Hello. I thank you for your support in my request for adminship. It was closed as successful. I am honored and thankful for the trust you have in me and for the new position you have helped place me in as an administrator. I will do my very best as an administrator for Simple English Wikipedia, and I promise I'll do all I can to the best of my abilities. If you need any help at all or if you need my assistance, feel free to drop a message on my talk page. I'll see if I can be of help. Again, thank you. I appreciate it very much.
Yours truly, RyanCross (talk) 08:12, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia UK initial Board election[change source]

A warm hello to all those signed up as supporters of the soon-to-be-rebooted UK chapter! Voting is now open over at meta - there's tons of information online over there, and the mailing list has been very active too. Discussion, comment (and even the inevitable technical gremlins!) are most welcome at the meta pages, otherwise please do send in your vote/s, and tell a friend about the chapter too :-)

Barnstar![change source]

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

For helping me out so much in setting up my cloak, I give you this barnstar! -- American Eagle (talk) 21:02, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, Microchip. You can actually make a dash (–) by typing a special code. The code to make a dash is the following: &-n-d-a-s-h-; (without the hyphens). Since it is possible, and some people actually do type-up the code instead of just typing the hyphen (-), I declined your quick deletion request. Just thought I should let you know. – RyanCross (talk) 23:39, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, it's possible that someone might type that. Better safe than sorry. ;) It's not like it'll harm Wikipedia to have that redirect. Thanks, – RyanCross (talk) 18:30, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

VIP Template[change source]

Hello again. For future reference, when using VIP templates, don't substitute (subst:) the templates. If you do, it does something like you did here. ;-) I then had to do this. All you have to do is simply type {{AIV|f}}, instead of {{subst:AIV|f}}. Thanks, – RyanCross (talk) 19:43, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies. I assumed that, as it was a message, it should be substituted. Sorry. Microchip  talk 09:06, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Yours, – RyanCross (talk) 21:49, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful what you add QD's to. The two football clubs you'd QD'd (F.C. Girondins de Bordeaux, Olympique Lyonnais) are extremely notable. --Gwib -(talk)- 13:00, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Except QD criteron A4 says the article needs to explain why it is notable. Or, that's how I interpret it, anyway. Microchip  talk 13:45, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Microchip08, (welcome to our small project here. ;)) - With regards to you being sorry (for giving out the link to the IRC channel - Only by making mistakes do you learn. In general, it is very difficult to control/check the people on IRC (its a very dynamic medium, "moving target" so to say). You have also seen that we could handle it fine - in short, there is little to be sorry about. And on the other hand, more editors would really be fine, so you giving out info on simple english wikipedia ot the people you know is a good thing to do. In short, don't feel bad.

Happy editing. --Eptalon (talk) 13:39, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bring up bad memories, but what happened? --Gwib -(talk)- 15:25, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Compromised?[change source]

Checkuser shows the Microchip80 account made this edit from a school computer that Microchip08 had used the week before. There seems to be no evidence that Microchip08 is compromised. If you still have access to the Microchip80 account and can change the password, then we can consider this issue closed. Thatcher (talk) 23:50, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

in re:qd tag on chatlog page[change source]

I asked TPH on IRC if I could log this part of the chat, and he said yes. Ask him@enwiki for confirmation. — Jonas (talk · proposal) 17:22, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you tell me which is your main IRC nick? A query with NickServ gives me two accounts: Zuzak and Microchip08. I have got a nice memo for you! Chenzw  Talk  06:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zuzak is my primary nick, but both should work, as they're all under the same account. Microchip  talk 10:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MC8: If you're around at the moment please come on IRC so I can have a quick chat?

Hello. I am new here and dont yet have the move power but can you move Mac OS X Leopard to Mac OS X v10.5 per English Wikipedia. Thanks -- DizzyStar (talk) 20:46, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Microchip08

Regarding this article, International Data Encryption Algorithm; Can you please help me by showing me how I can simplify more keeping on all scientific terminologies? BR Puttyschool (talk) 12:05, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please instead of stamping, you can do better by simplifying keeping on terminologies! Puttyschool (talk) 12:56, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You need to understand one important thing, no one will read about cryptography without good understanding of the simple English I’m using, I’m not writing about a story or a movie, Avalanche effect is about one of the most difficult applied sciences. Again; instead of stamping, you can do better by simplifying keeping on terminologies then show me!Puttyschool (talk) 17:01, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[change source]

Please read Wikipedia:Categories#Creating_new_categories before creating any more categories. It contains a lot of advice on when and how to do it. This is brought up because of Category:French companies - only one entry and placed in only half the needed categories: French companies are companies (Category:Companies by country Done ) which are French (Category:France Not done). Similar issues were found in British automobile companies (2 articles, not listed as being British) -- Creol(talk) 18:41, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not do that again. Synergy 21:00, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA[change source]

Hello, you recently ran an RfA. At the time of closing, it had 12 support and 11 oppose votes, which makes a support ratio of between 52% and 53%. Our Criteria state that successful candidates must have around 65% support to pass. You do not have many mainspace edits, only between 15 and 25% of your total number (as a comparison: Less than 10% of my edits are userspace/talk pages, at most 10% are admin/crat related). In that context, I do not think you have enough support so I can promote you to adminship, without second thoughts. I am really sorry for this. If you try again, please try to get more than 50% of your edits to article space. Happy editing nevertheless.--Eptalon (talk) 11:45, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
