Reverting of change

Hi again! I'm just letting you know that I have reverted one of your changes here. The IP was actually removing a duplicate table, which you can see if you compare the diff. It was a mistake I almost made as well, so I understand, but please be careful when undoing changes in the future. It's always better to double check than to make a mistake. 3RR and edit warring

Hey there MrMe, I noticed that there was a little bit of an change war that happened at Terje Nilsen. While your reasoning may have been correct, we encourage consensus and discussion over problematic changes. The initial revert was not an issue, but once you begin reverting Deppiyy, both of you should have begun a discussion either on the talk page or at a user talk page. Edit warring can result in a block for both participants, even if you were right. If you feel strongly about the issue, feel free to reach out to an administrator through the noticeboard and it can be reviewed. However, edit warring is never a good option except for obvious vandalism. Thank you for all your help on New Changes Patrol and keep up the great work. References can be added in multiple ways. In the source editor, you can press "cite", then "templates", then cite what you're citing. Put the URL where it says URL and press the search button. Also make sure to put in the date in "access date".

On the minor planet pages you have created, there is a See also section with "Meanings of minor planet names: #####–######". Do you intend to create those as well? If not, you may want to remove that section from the pages. No need for a see also section when there is nothing to see. Same apples to Hatnotes to redlinks ie. see main article: some red link. Recent changes

  • In the Wikipedia Android app it is now possible to change the toolbar at the bottom so the tools you use more often are easier to click on. The app now also has a focused reading mode. [1][2]

Problems

  • There was a problem with the collection of some page-view data from June 2021 to January 2022 on all wikis. This means the statistics are incomplete. To help calculate which projects and regions were most affected, relevant datasets are being retained for 30 extra days. You can read more on Meta-wiki.
  • There was a problem with the databases on March 10. All wikis were unreachable for logged-in users for 12 minutes. Logged-out users could read pages but could not edit or access uncached content then. [3]

Changes later this week

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 15 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 16 March. It will be on all wikis from 17 March (calendar).
  • When using uselang=qqx to find localisation messages, it will now show all possible message keys for navigation tabs such as "View history". [4]
  • Access to Special:RevisionDelete has been expanded to include users who have deletelogentry and deletedhistory rights through their group memberships. Before, only those with the deleterevision right could access this special page. [5]
  • On the Special:Undelete pages for diffs and revisions, there will be a link back to the main Undelete page with the list of revisions. [6]

DYK question

Hey MrMeAndMrMe! I was fixing Dennis Skinner's article and I found a fact that I found interesting, but I'm not sure if its DYK interesting. Skinner was nicknamed the "Beast of Bolsover" for saying inappropriate comments and nicknames to MPs, and even then-PM Cameron. Does this have DYK potential? @TDKR Chicago 101 Thanks for the question! I think it does have potential. I think that the DYK can be something like
"... that Dennis Skinner was nicknamed to the "Beast of Bolsover" for inappropriate comments against members of Parliament in <year that he was named this>?"
This article doesn't actually mention that he was named the BoB for inappropriate comments against MP specifically, but rather the article just says that he made some inappropriate comments. This nickname appears to have just been given to him over time seeing how he has a history, and was known, for heckling and saying multiple petty comments to MPs over the years. Hey, you'll need to move this to a page in your userspace as Wikiproject stuff is just in userspace, and rarely moved to Wikipedia space unless approved by the community. 110s (decade)

If we're going to use the births and deaths by year for decade template, we need to make sure it isn't adding incorrect categories. Look at the categories on it: the only categories it should have are the ones that were on it after the change you reverted.

I thought the problem might be in the included pages, but that doesn't seem consistent with the sections that got included. Are you working on the template by any chance? It needs to not add year categories. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:00, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's not consistent and it happens at random. I have no idea why this happens. The code for the template is exactly the same as enwiki, so I assume it's some template that it uses but even every template is the same exact thing. When I saw this, the template was being used on two pages, and it was happening on both. That's why I removed it from both. Which major party would disagree with "Every child should have the best start with access to good education"? It’s not even cited. It’s like saying "we support good thing and oppose bad things". Hey, I noticed that there's a Template:Did you know/Queue/7 and it's even listed on the DYK queues template at Template:Did you know/Queue where the number of queues are listed from 1 to 7, yet the total number of queues in the waiting are 6. Given the amount of queues on hold, should we re-add the 7th queue? I transferred hooks that weren't my own (since it's against DYK policy) so the one's transferred were the hooks about Brazilian numbers, Great Oxygenation Event and Sylvius Leopold Weiss. Two spots remain to be filled included a hook with a picture. I recommend the picture one be that of Boric and the last remaining one be about a person.
Back in the day there was this balance policy where alternating queues would have 3 about people and 2 about objects and then the queue after that would have 3 about objects/locations/etc. and 2 about people. When you tagged 1 E-60 s, you added {{qd|db|1=Unencyclopedic. We are not... This is the wrong format and caused it to flag an error cat. Basically, you set 1= db (for whatever reason) then immediately reset 1 = "Unencyclopedic. We are not..." The system sees that, wonder why you would do that then gives up and flags it for someone to come fix the error. Most of the time, if you're needing to use a custom reason for QD, the article isn't QD'able. We can only delete for the reasons shown at WP:QD. My point wasn't "this is an essay and so we shouldn't follow it" (although reading it now, it definitely comes across that way) - for example, "deletion is/isn't cleanup" is used in deletion discussions all the time, despite both being essays - it's that User:Auntof6/simplediffs doesn't provide any reason for categorising males and females the same way and says we don't categorise them as separately as enwiki does, not necessarily that we don't categorise them separately at all. --Ferien (talk) 15:36, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Message boxes produced by MediaWiki code will no longer have these CSS classes: successbox, errorbox, warningbox. The styles for those classes and messagebox will be removed from MediaWiki core. This only affects wikis that use these classes in wikitext, or change their appearance within site-wide CSS. Please review any local usage and definitions for these classes you may have. I noticed you changing one space between sentences to two in Chiasmocleis ventrimaculata. You go ahead and keep doing that if you feel the need, but the Wiki software always renders it as one space to the reader. For example, I'm putting two spaces in the wikicode after this sentence. And I'm putting just one space after this one. See how they look the same in your browser?

If two spaces in the code makes you happy, keep on. But be advised that it makes absolutely no difference to the readers.

Hi! This is GhostedOnly (real name is Adrien) and I just have a question on the revert of my edits for the simplified article mentioning Minecraft. I... actually don't know exactly why it was reverted? All I know is that I forgot to provide references, but I'm on a school chromebook and have no access to many websites mentioning Minecraft excluding wikipedia. I'm also not to sure about the rules on what links can be provided in articles (or what references should be provided for parts like "unless the bed is obstructed by a block or a mob is nearby".

Recent changes

  • Advanced item In the AbuseFilter extension, an ip_in_ranges() function has been introduced to check if an IP is in any of the ranges. Wikis are advised to combine multiple ip_in_range() expressions joined by | into a single expression for better performance. You can use the search function on Special:AbuseFilter to locate its usage. [41]
  • The IP Info feature which helps abuse fighters access information about IPs, has been deployed to all wikis as a beta feature. This comes after weeks of beta testing on test.wikipedia.org.

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 June. It will be on all wikis from 2 June (calendar).
  • Some wikis will be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. It will be performed on 31 May at 07:00 UTC (targeted wikis).
  • The New Topic Tool will be deployed for all editors at most wikis soon. You will be able to opt out from within the tool and in Preferences. [42][43]
  • Advanced item The list=usercontribs API will support fetching contributions from an IP range soon. API users can set the uciprange parameter to get contributions from any IP range within the limit. [44]
  • A new parser function will be introduced: {{=}}. It will replace existing templates named "=". It will insert an equal sign. This can be used to escape the equal sign in the parameter values of templates. [45]

The Church of Saint John (Armenian: Սուրբ Յովհաննէս Եկեղեցի) is a 5th or 6th century Armenian Catholic church in Sohrol, Shabestar County, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. It was rebuilt in 1840 by Samson Makintsev (Sam Khan; member of Bogatyr Battalion) in brick on the older church foundation.

Gorgany Nature Reserve (Ukrainian: Ґорґани заповідник) is a strict nature reserve (a 'zapovidnyk') of Ukraine that covers a part of the Gorgany mountain range of the Outer Eastern Carpatians in southwest Ukraine. The reserve is 46% old-growth forest, one of the last and largest such stands in Europe. The reserve was originally created in 1996 to protect relic stands of Stone pine trees (Pinus cembra).   • A new function has been used for gadget developers to add content underneath the title on article pages. This is considered a stable API that should work across all skins. Documentation is available. [128]
  • One of our test wikis is now being served from a new infrastructure powered by Kubernetes (read more). More Wikis will switch to this new infrastructure in early 2023. Please test and let us know of any issues. [129]

  • Last week, all wikis had no edit access for 9 minutes. This was caused by a database problem. [130]

  • Edits can be automatically "tagged" by the system software or the Abuse filter management system. Those tags link to a help page about the tags. Soon they will also link to Recent Changes to let you see other edits tagged this way. This was a Community Wishlist 2022 request. [133]
  • The Trust & Safety tools team have shared new plans for building the Private Incident Reporting System. The system will make it easier for editors to ask for help if they are harassed or abused.
  • Realtime Preview for Wikitext is coming out of beta as an enabled feature for every user of the 2010 Wikitext editor in the week of January 9, 2023. It will be available to use via the toolbar in the 2010 Wikitext editor. The feature was the 4th most popular wish of the Community Wishlist Survey 2021.
