Footballers[change source]

When creating the various articles on footballers, would you mind taking a couple extra steps?

  1. In the intro, add the nationality of the player and birth(/death) dates where available.
Some Player (b. 6 January, 1999) is an English football player. (or "football player from Where ever" if the country name is just too odd for the first format)
  2. Add the correct categories:
People should always fall under 4 main categories: Nationality, Notability, Birth and Death.
    1. {{BD}} handles the Birth and death categories as well as makes certain the person is sorted correctly in the categories (sorted by "Last, First" name instead of the article's title)
      {{ BD | "Year born" | "Year died" (or blank if still alive) | "Sort by" (blank if the title of the page is correct, usually for single name people or oriental/"First name is the family name" people)}}
{{ BD | 1999 | | Player, Some }} - A person named "Some Player" who was born in 1999 and is still alive.
      {{ BD | 1939 | 2008 | Player, Another}} - A person named "Another Player" who was born in 1939 and died in 2008.
    2. Notability you already got covered with Category:Footballers, but in many cases that can be taken a step further to take care of nationality as well, ie Category:English footballers.

Not all countries have categories for football players though. In these cases, the person should be places in the closest category available until their country has enough articles on footballers to warrant getting a category. There could be several categories for these people to be placed into and this part can get a little tricky but as the country categories all follow the same layout, it isn't really hard to pick up. The likely categories would be either Category:xxx athletes, Category:xxx people or Category:yyy where xxx is the demonym of the nationality (English, French, American, Brazilian, etc) and yyy is the country itself (this is used only on very small countries where there is not enough people with articles to warrant a new category. The categories listed are in the order they should be selected when more than one exists - first try athletes, then people and finally the country itself. If even the country doesn't exist? rare, but it happens and is not that much of a deal if you ignore that part.
The Guidelines on Categories covers this topic more completely if you need further references. Template {{BD}} also includes full instructions on its use and special conditions such as when the date of birth or death is unknown. This extra couple of steps when the article is created will help remove having to correct the article later. --Creol(talk) 08:42, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request[change source]

Hi there. When you create articles that are short (visually short as well as below 1.5-3 kbs), could you please add {{stub}} to them please? Also, could you please use an edit summary? Using an edit summary will help other editors know and understand the changes that you are making to pages. If you have trouble remembering to write edit summaries, there is an option under my settings that will not let you save a page unless you have used an edit summary. Thanks, Razorflame 15:12, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Refrences[change source]

Will you please STOP performing edits like this as the template {{reflist}} is preferred, please. All of your changes like this now need to be undone. I would suggest you post a notice Simple talk asking for help.-- ChristianMan16 t c r 09:29, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did it for you. The thread is here.-- ChristianMan16 t c r 09:35, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ChristianMan, may I remind you that Nameless user's edits were done for a positive meaning. Remember, assume good faith! Also, there is nothing seriously wrong between <references/> and {{reflist}}. They are nearly the same thing. --§ Snake311 (I'm Not Okay!) 11:36, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That was nearly good faith, it's not like I yelled at him, all I did was put a little emphasis on the "stop". The <references/> tag only shows the references, while {{reflist}} shows them and give you the choice of columns which is good when multiple references are there.-- ChristianMan16 t c r 18:47, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In the future could you explain your changes like this - I wasn't sure what you were doing (you broke a few pages (which I notice you have now fixed)) - But if you could use an edit summary in the future, it would greatly help us to understand why you made a change. Thanks Kennedy (talk) 09:30, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add that if you write about something American it needs to be written in American English. Thank you.-- † CM16 t c r 09:33, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No it doesn't. You can use whatever version of English you like. Colour or Color is fine. I would not switch between the two in the same article though. Kennedy (talk) 09:47, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry. Because I am not a user good at English, I cannot sometimes do it in a short sentence. Sometimes an appropriate word does not occur to me. I make an effort as much as possible from now on. --Nameless User (talk) 14:07, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It took me a while to find the link again but here it is so yes it does.-- † CM16 t c r 18:57, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Still no. American spelling does not need to be used. Use whichever you like, so long as there is consistency. We invented the language, you Yanks stole it and messed it all up! ;) Kennedy (talk) 19:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well... colour was once color in British English, but we added in pointless letters in the Victorian times. Other words like debt and doubt used to have no b in them. We also called autumn "fall", "gotten" for have got, and "store" for shop. We just changed, American English stayed the same. Majorly talk 19:50, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Little bitter, Kennedy? ;D anway for Major League Soccer, I think the american term should be used.-- † CM16 t c r 20:27, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well thats the name. If I were writing the article, I would still call it the MLS, but would mention the football teams that play in it. In a nutshell: Use whichever you like, so long as there is consistency - (and no, I'm not bitter ;) ) Kennedy (talk) 08:49, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

German Football Clubs[change source]

Hi, you changed a number of German football clubs e.g. from VfL Bochum to V.f.L Bochum, Hertha BSC to Hertha B.S.C. or VfB Stuttgart to V.f.B. Stuttgart. That's absolutely wrong. There are not abbreviation points within the names. Please change back. --94.216.101.31 (talk) 18:42, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For example, Arsenal Football Club is Arsenal F.C. (not Arsenal FC), Associazione Calcio Milan is A.C. Milan (not AC Milan), Real Madrid Club de Fútbol is Real Madrid C.F. (not Real Madrid CF), Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli is S.S.C. Napoli (not SSC Napoli).
About abbreviation, it is written "." in many teams. Why do not you write "." in the German team? What is a difference of German clubs and other clubs? --Nameless User (talk) 03:48, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He is right, German clubs do not use the full stops. Just look at the English Wikipedia articles.--86.45.173.190 (talk) 18:05, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

National team articles[change source]

I believe that the national football team articles that you are creating fall under quick deletion (WP:QD#A2) for no content. The article is a rephrasing of the title of the the article ("Bermuda national football team is the national football team of Bermuda") and an infobox. I think you need to provide more information about these teams rather than creating all these stubs with that one sentence rephrasing. Would you mind stopping the creation of them while it is discussed? Either way (talk) 14:19, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Importing from enWP[change source]

Hi! Thanks for all your good work so far! Can I just point you in the direction of a set of import instructions? Thanks fr33kman talk 03:57, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey NU. I've seen the large number of templates you've just created. It appears to me that you have simply imported these from en.wiki. With the current climate of deletionism surrounding such new articles, unless they are "correctly" attributed (and the style of attribution is also up for debate), I just wanted to warn you that your templates run the risk of being deleted en mass under the G12 (copyright violation) criterion. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 09:06, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. When I made those templates, I copied a templates of en.wiki. I think that accuracy was already checked by user of en.wiki. Those data appear in the homepage of FIFA except some old data. Thanks.--Nameless User (talk) 10:31, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It was the copying templates from en.wiki which is the perceived problem. You need to provide a level of attribution to the original authors. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:38, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The list of these the participation player is clearly objective data. The problem of the copyright does not occur.--Nameless User (talk) 10:53, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there again! The RfD mentioned above is now closed and the main part is already deleted. The rest will be done soon. Please keep away in the future to create article like these en masse. Such statistics doesn't help in this wiki. Please create articles with some sentences of prose rather than creating hundreds of not really needed statistic pages. If you do this in the future (mass creating) you can be blocked for disruptive behaviour/editing. If you like to go on and you'd like to help here, so please create articles with some more prose. Thank you! --Barras (talk) 13:37, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your "articles"[change source]

Hi, I'm going through your "articles" on minor football players and note that many fail to show any notability, so I have deleted them per WP:QD#A4. Please reconsider your creation methods and spend more time building an article up rather than flooding recent changes creating one-liners en-masse. Wikipedia is for articles that describe the topic, not simply say they exist. Majorly talk 13:38, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I note that Barras warned you about this in November above, but you ignored him. Please note that any more flooding of recent changes with article creation may result in a block. Also note that nobody is stopping you from writing articles, rather just creating them en-masse and flooding recent changes (and the project) with stubs on football players. Majorly talk 14:00, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop creating articles en-masse: if you are able to create three articles in under a minute, you are not taking sufficient care when you are creating articles. I strongly suggest that you reconsider your creation methods, as above. Please concentrate on expanding a few, not creating a lot. Wikipedia is not a database for minor footballers. — μ 10:36, Tuesday January 12 2010 (UTC)
Since you appear to be refusing to co-operate and stop mass-creating one-line stubs without notability, I have blocked you for one week. When you return, please reconsider your methods. Majorly talk 12:41, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your footballer stubs[change source]

Hi NU. I see you were blocked today for a few issues that were raised against your "editing style". I am here to offer you a chance to work with me so you can continue to edit, creating articles, but with certain rules:

  1. The stubs you create must contain references. I remember the stubs you used to create had at least one reference, so let's go back to that and make sure every article's notability can be verified.
  2. The stubs you create must contain at least two sentences about the player/manager. For instance, "Cesare Prandelli (born 19 August 1957) is an Italian former professional footballer and football manager. During his played career he played for some Italian clubs including Juventus and Atalanta. When he retired from playing, he managed Italian teams including Parma and Roma."
  3. The stubs you create must have categories, a stub notice, the {{BD}} template and any other relevant templates - you already do this but it's worth saying it again.
  4. You must not flood recent changes by creating articles too quickly. Because there is little activity on this Wikipedia, when you create 3 articles per minute, the recent changes list becomes flooded with your changes, and vandalism can easily go un-noticed by those editors who watch for it.

If you agree, to start with I would like you to create your articles in a sandbox in your userspace, notify me so I can review it, and then we'll move it over to the mainspace. Then we'll repeat the process until it's agreed your stubs have enough substance to remain in Wikipedia.

After, say, two weeks, we can then discuss how best you can add them to the mainspace yourself without flooding the recent changes list.

Let me know what you think, either here or by email. Best, The Rambling Man (talk) 17:29, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nameless User![change source]

Hello, Nameless User! Thank you very much for all your edits here. They're very helpful. However, I'm really sorry to say that the many new pages flooded the new changes again today. This prevents people from finding vandalism. Usually, improving one article and making it high quality is even more helpful to Wikipedia than just lots of short pages. Why don't you try improving one of your excellent articles and heightening its quality so it could be a Good Article or Very Good Article one day? Thank you! You really are appreciated here and we see what good work you do; I simply hoped that this would make your great good as an editor be even better. Please do try reading over the pages I've given you. I'm sure they'll be of help to you. :) Thank you and God bless! Sincerely, —Classical Esther 13:03, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I think your work is very nice, I don't mean to be bitey, but you are flooding the new changes and therefore I am obliged to stumble in my vandal-fighting. You have been blocked before by Majorly for one week, and I'm afraid you might get blocked again. If you want, you can ask to become a flooder to an admin, and maybe they can help you. A flooder means that your changes do not appear on the new changes list for a while. Then, you can remove it after that. :) Regards, Belinda 06:40, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese footballer stubs and city/prefecture information[change source]

Hi NU,

Can I ask you for some help, please? In your articles on Japanese football players, can you watch out for links to cities and prefectures where they have the same names?

I edited this one today Nobuyuki Furo as an example. Ehime is only a prefecture and not a city, so it doesn't make much difference, but for others like Chiba, Nara, Gifu, etc. it makes a big difference.

I went through all of the Chiba links the other day and fixed them for Chiba City [[Chiba,_Chiba]] and Chiba Prefecture [[Chiba_Prefecture]]. That is the way enWP handles city and prefecture names and it seems to make sense to do the same here. Does that make sense to you?

Thanks,

Quick deletion of Shizuo Takada[change source]

If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. Wpeaceout (talk) 09:22, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have declined this QD reequest because the article does technically assert notability in the player box it says what club he played for. fr33kman 11:49, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
