Tried putting Template:User en-gb-2 on my userpage here but it doesn't work, am I to use the direct template? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:14, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is mostly a guess, but it's likely that {{Babel-X}} can't support another template with formatting like {{User en-gb-2}} as a variable. Operator873talkconnect 22:18, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Reading thru {{Babel}} that does indeed look like the issue. The Babel template is hard coded and can't handle another template passed as a variable. Operator873talkconnect 22:21, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So I need to just put just the hardcoded template by itself? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:42, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Darkfrog24: The server is up with no reported issues. If Freenode is refusing your connection due to a bad password, right click on the "Freenode" line on the left of the screen, and select 'Edit this network'. Ensure your Freenode password is correct. Otherwise, log into Kiwi and reach out to me so we can take a further look. Remember, the IRC873 password is rarely used and is not the same as your Freenode password. Hi. How long will 560mb of wifi last me (provided I'm using Wikipedia only)? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:51, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, very difficult to tell. Depends even on what pages you access. Probably not long. Operator873talkconnect 00:53, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I ask because, It's cause the school wifi's is crappy, and there's "ShawGO" wifi across the street, and also "ShawOpen" Shawgo is free and but it says you need to be a shaw custoner (so I don't get why it's free) and Shaw Open is unlimited wifi, but you need to sign in with your shaw billing information, which I didn't have at the time. There's about 80 people connected to the school's wifi network and it's really slow at times. It said about 6 hours, but I doubt it. Will the router remember my device once I used up all the 560mb? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:59, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) You would likely rip through 560mb very fast. I know someone on an old phone plan with 200mb if they don't pay attention to what pages they are surfing too will go through that much in less than 15 minutes. -Djsasso (talk) 12:06, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page Archive query

[change source]

If one finds a disruptive/vandalistic comment in an talkpage archive, can it be removed? Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:03, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@つがる: vandalism can always be removed. :) Operator873talkconnect 01:57, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just removed it. I browse through talk page archives at school, because they seem to be more entertaining than my actual classes. ;P --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:02, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(Entertaining as in the discussions that take place, not the vandalisms, etc) --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:02, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @つがる: I would suggest that if it's on a user talk page that isn't your own, you check with the owner first. If the vandalism was added to the actual talk page (not directly to the archive), the owner may have chosen to leave it there. I know I wouldn't want anyone doing anything to my talk page archives. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:20, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, probably not ideal to edit other people's talk page archvies. Personally, I would remove any vandalism from my talk page/talk page archive and would have no issue with someone removing it, but others may want to leave it there on their own page. --IWI (talk) 16:43, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Something to remember is that a personal attack isn't necessarily vandalism. It can be, but it its an attack that is part of a discussion it is not. It is obviously not acceptable, but the editor may wish to leave it there so people can see the behaviour of the person who made it. -Djsasso (talk) 16:44, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello all. It looks like I've made a mistake when I removed the talkpage archive comment, yes I am aware that we don't edit the archives, however I was under the Impression of WP:IAR, and the fact that rude comments are usually removed anyways. The removal wasn't meant to be disruptive, or something similar to that. Of course if it was an entire thread, I would not touch it. Seeing that it was just 1 comment, I thought it would be okay to remove it. I can't promise that I will be perfect in editing Wikipedia, but what I can promise is that with every mistake I make unintentionally, I will learn and become better because of the mistake made. Wikipedia can't be learned overnight, and neither can it be built all in one night. We've all grown in our time here, and we've all made mistakes, what's important is we learn from them. This is the case here, and I will be sure not to repeat the same actions in the future.
  • Adding on I wanted to say, Wikipedia is a unique place, being bold encourages people of all kinds to not be scared to make changes, because each change is fixable, unlike other online encyclopedias, I don't know any other ones, which allow anyone to contribute and make an account for free. This is why I love Wikipedia, and Why I'm still here despite any mistakes I make. Sorry for this long text, but I just wanted to point this out. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 23:43, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@PotsdamLamb: There is no need to {{ping}} me since this is my talk page and I get pinged anyway. The {{ping}} is for you since you don't get pinged when I respond here. Additionally, templates are not always needed. In fact, there are some that frown on using impersonal templates. Since the account in question is an LTA anyway, there's really no need to waste the effort... Especially since I, as a Steward, was locking the account anyway and globally tagging it in the lock. Operator873talkconnect 07:01, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@PotsdamLamb: During the regularly scheduled Steward Elections in February. There are no tools for detecting LTAs. You have to recognize them by habit. CheckUser is useful once the detection is made to confirm it. As you are well aware, the CU tool cannot be used for fishing expeditions. Operator873talkconnect 07:06, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users

[change source]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. Where's the heart emoji when you need it. Haha! Operator873 connect 21:34, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your client isn't working for me at the moment. Is this my end or yours? Thanks, --IWI (talk) 09:53, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @ImprovedWikiImprovment: Oper and others also left the IRC channel at the same time so it's likely not on your end :) --Ferien (talk) 15:13, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferien: Ah okay, thanks. :) --IWI (talk) 15:16, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not the user talk page?

[change source]

Hello, I saw that you left a warning on Talk:Joeluwa, however, this isn't the user's userpage (this is in the article namespace). Shouldn't this (and the main article) be moved to the user's userpage? Thanks. --*Fehufangą✉ Talk page00:11, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Fehufanga: You're absolutely right. Great catch. I've moved the pages into user space. Operator873 connect 00:14, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Karna promotion sock farm

[change source]

Hi. Thanks for the global locks. I believe you're already aware of the Karna promotion sock farm on the EN wiki (ANI thread), which has now become cross-wiki abuse. Would you be able to put me a note, either on my talk page or as a reply here (and ping me), whenever you block someone related to this ring, so that I could track them in w:User:DaxServer/Karna disruption? Do you have any advice as to how to deal with this cross-wiki abuse? I'll also ask around for the same! Thank you! DaxServer (talk) 20:40, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete the following

[change source]

Hi. Can you please delete the following pages?:

I have moved them to the /Userboxes category, because they are not templates. SidChat2048 (talk and contributions) 04:07, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I did not ask you to delete the userboxes SidChat2048 (talk and contributions) 04:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I hadn't realized until I was all the way done that you actually meant for me to delete the redirects you left behind when you moved the pages. All better. I am going to delete the category you created because it's not needed and doesn't meet this community's requirements for a category to be created. Operator873 connect 04:22, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Operator873: Thank you for deleting the above pages. SidChat2048 (talk and contributions) 04:22, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please also delete the following pages:
These are the talk pages of the deleted redirects, and also, they result in a double redirect. SidChat2048 (talk and contributions) 10:06, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you just tag them for deletion so any sysop can see them? Use {{delete}} Operator873 connect 15:58, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I have tagged all for deletion. SidChat2048 (talk and contributions) 16:18, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. They have been deleted. SidChat2048 (talk and contributions) 15:29, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can you restore User talk:67.183.139.157/accountbeggars?

[change source]

Can you restore that page and move it to User:67.183.139.157/accountbeggars? I think they added "talk" by mistake. Mwiqdoh (talk) 02:15, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mwiqdoh: Non-existent users cannot have subpages or user pages for that matter. They'll need an account for access to user space. Operator873 connect 02:17, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd create it for them then under my name. Can you tell me the content that was on that page. Thanks. Mwiqdoh (talk) 02:18, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mwiqdoh: Sure.
{{userbox |id=account |info=This user has urged [[User talk:67.183.139.157|67.183.139.157]] to get an account. }}
Thank you! Have a good day :) Mwiqdoh (talk) 02:23, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
