The lyrics would be fine, generally here. But you copied a significant portion of the article as well. You should review this page and this page before copying anything else. Operator873talkconnect 21:35, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

excuse me?[change source]

Regarding the Grand Prince of Tuscany, I think you'll find the edit removing the links to pages about the same boy/child was in actual fact more of an act of "vandalism" than me reverting the edit to ere-include them. Look before you accuse please. 146.198.120.158 (talk) 18:22, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@146.198.120.158: Your edit added cross wiki links which isn't allowed here. Also please ensure you do not copy articles from other languages and use a machine translator. It quite often doesn't work. Operator873talkconnect 18:26, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Operator. Just letting you know that I have reverted this change of yours. It was not vandalism, but a false positive, as Santa Clarita Diet was cancelled in 2019. Thanks, --IWI (talk) 22:32, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kinda, although Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian (among others) actually directly come from Latin. They are all pretty similar to each other overall. Yeah China has influenced everything around it, lol. :) --IWI (talk) 00:16, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As an admin aren’t you supposed to consider.I took a lot of time making that category and I planned to add more pages to it. Five minutes and you delete it. I never intended to be unkind or any of sort, it’s just that having your pages deleted so fast...I hope you understand how that’s so frustrating. Please forgive me for being so rude and I hope we can be friends again. I came here to write articles and that’s what I’ll exactly do. Otherwise I have also made a request at the check page talk. (talk page stalker) @Thegooduser: You can pretty much mark any new page as patrolled. However, it doesn't serve as much purpose to mark administrative pages as patrolled, so it might not be a good use of time and effort. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:20, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I'm getting "*** Notice -- You need to identify via SASL to use this server" and "Closing Link: 873gear.com (SASL access only) (irc)" and can't use freenode. Is this a bug or did I mess something up on my end? --DannyS712 (talk) 15:45, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Thegooduser: As long as "anonymous users only" is in the block log, you should be good. Otherwise, you would need IP block exemption if your school is blocked. I know mine was, at least on enwiki. Yes only your device will be logged in, although I would reccomend hitting "log out" before you leave the PC. --IWI (talk) 23:01, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Username change[change source]

If I change my username from "Thegooduser" to "天ぷら” can someone else be able to take "thegooduser" after I change it? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:47, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Thegooduser: No, it will be protected via the title-blacklist system. Should someone wants to create the account, it needs to have title blacklist overrride permission which will be sysops and some special groups (like stewards). You can create a doppelgänger account to prevent impersonation at the old username, just after rename ask someone with the permission, I am more than happy to help create one if needed. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:26, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Will all my edits move to the new username, once I rename? Once a user, had 500 edits that didn't move over, what happens if something similar happens to me? (I'm still deciding whether to do it or not) --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:18, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sock Puppet account[change source]

Hey Operator873! The I believe the account of Ngozikalu903 is a sockpuppet account for the blocked user Ngozikalu7435. Ngozikalu7435's edits to Deaths in 2020 is similar to those made by Ngozikalu903, frequently adding Charlie Rose. If possible can the sock puppet account be blocked? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 05:28, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate Account for School use[change source]

Hi, Operator873. While I know it's not a good idea, and as I mentioned above, I can't help it but to edit at school. Given that people vandalise Wikipedia in my school, If I wanted an IPBE, how does that work, also, can I get the rollback and patroller right on the alternate account? --Thegooduser Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:55, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Thegooduser: just because there are badly behaved people at school doesn't mean you can't use your main account there. It is quite obvious when an account is associated with IP vandalism and when it's not. In this case, you'll be fine to use your main account at school. If you're affected by a school ban on this project, I'd be very surprised, but we'll look at IPBE then if it's needed. Operator873talkconnect 03:10, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Revert of my edit to "Information_entropy"[change source]

Hello - you recently reverted my edit to the Information entropy article due to a reason of "do not add cross-wiki links". Do you have a policy reason for this or is this just your opinion? Concerning the former, I have found language that actually states it is advisable to add inter-wiki links between the Simple English WP and other WP sites which is exactly what I did. Also, pre-empting the notion that "cross-wiki" links differ from "inter-wiki" links, in the context of Wikipedia sites, this would be incorrect. When discussing Wikipedia sites, "cross-wiki" and "inter-wiki" links are the exact same thing.

WP is a big place and I surely do not claim to know every bit and piece of it so if you have a policy reference that supports not making the edits I made, then great - chalk it up to TILT. However, if there isn't any real policy against this, then in a few days, I will re-post my edits - Thanks. VeritasSapientia (talk) 23:06, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@VeritasSapientia: Thank you for your kind question. You may want to see this section of WP:Interwiki. Specifically the sentence that says very clearly that interwiki (or crosswiki) links should be kept to a minimum. Instead of linking to the English Wikipedia, we'd rather an article here be created. Thus keeping interwiki links to an absolute minimum. If there is no conceivable route to creating the appropriate article or if it's not prudent to recreate, for example a global policy covered at meta, then interwiki links are appropriate. However using an interwiki link to "fix" a red link here is not helpful. We would prefer the article be created, or the red link left in place as I said on your talk page. Red links are good things here and we like them. If you disagree or would like a 3rd opinion, I'm sure one of my talk page stalkers can help out, or you can ask the community for input. Operator873talkconnect 23:29, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @VeritasSapientia: One issue with internal links to other Wikipedias is this: If an article links to enwiki because there is no article here, then if we ever do have an article here we would need to find all those enwiki links to change them to local links. That would be difficult to do even if someone thought to do it. (I doubt that everyone who creates an article here thinks to check for crosswiki links.) I will tell you that I routinely change crosswiki links to local links unless the other Wikipedia is the definitive source for something (for example, article counts on another Wikipedia). --Auntof6 (talk) 00:18, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies but I'm just not seeing any useful reason here except a maintenance concern if a Simple Wiki article is created later on. I obviously do not share that concern because I view part of my editor mission to be facilitating easy access to information for the reader. To me, this is consistent with using inter-wiki links to relevant information when no other access option exists. And if that means I need to keep track of where I made inter- vs. intra-wiki links so I can then go back and check, than that's what I need to do - kinda part of what I signed up for when I jumped in this pool... :=)

Anyway, thanks for your input - filing this under we agree to disagree. VeritasSapientia (talk) 01:49, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@VeritasSapientia: why not file it under reasons to write more articles on Simple English Wikipedia? This seems like the more constructive solution. Besides, we are all here to make a better Simple English encyclopedia. Operator873talkconnect 02:11, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't misunderstand --- writing more articles is always a central element of my WP editor mission objectives and is also my preferred option when there is a gap. However, in that interim period between now and when that article is published, I see value in providing the reader with easy access to related content. The easy access part was the focus of this discussion. VeritasSapientia (talk) 02:57, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@VeritasSapientia: No misunderstanding occurred. No malice received or sent. In fact, let us collaborate here. How can I empower you? How can I help? Operator873talkconnect 03:01, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@VeritasSapientia: I too think links to the English Wikipedia are not helpful. Firstly, for the reasons outlined above: interwiki links will probably never be changed to the simplewiki link when an article is created. Secondly, our target audience are people who struggle with English, so a link to a complex English Wikipedia article is not helpful at all. People are most likely here because they could not understand a complex English Wikipedia article. In fact, one might not even realise they have changed to a different Wikipedia once clicking the link. I hope this answers your concerns, please ask more questions if you need to :) --IWI (talk) 14:42, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Operator873! Sorry to bother, but I am going to rename my username soon, because people at school, seen my Wikipedia username before, and also there have been times where I've gotten trolled (by email or on wiki) for my username I have right now. IP vandalism, removed from VIP[change source]

I really think it is necessary to block this IP address: Special:Contributions/174.101.151.228 Given that they have been vandalizing for months or years, just about all their edits are vandalism, and their talk page looks like this (35 warnings), and they have been blocked 11 times in the past 1.5 years, I think blocking them would be compliant with the blocking policy. It's true that they didn't vandalize for some number of hours, but they could vandalize again any day. Thanks. Naddruf (talk) 23:46, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Naddruf: I appreciate the concern here and it does appear to be a remarkably static IP address from what is likely a single user. However, I'd rather make the block while the IP is active vs more than 30 hours later. I'll keep and eye on it. Operator873talkconnect 23:51, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
