DYK project member review sought[change source]

Hi, following some discussion which has now died down I have proposed some rules for DYK which refine those we already had and are based on our recent experiences and the discussion. As a member of the DYK project, could you please have a look at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Proposed rules and give your comments. Thanks Matilda (talk) 23:45, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Primitivism[change source]

Hi Peter! There's a lot of ...isms that need to be dealt with. I'll have to work out a priority. I'm trying to get through my long list of Renaissance painters with at least a few lines on each but a. I get distracted, b. I'm doing a lot of painting so I'm not getting as much time as I used to. I'll keep at it...

I've just had a disaster on Wikipedia. There was an article in which the pics were arranged so that they created gaps in the text. So I moved one. Every pic then disssolved into little square pixels because the writer of the article had uploaded photos as gifs. It was an FA disaster! and you know how people are about their precious FAs. I have just spent hours fixing his blinking gifs, as he is a prolific uploader and has created the same problem in every blinking article he's ever written. Boring! I'd rather be writing, but I too tired. I'm in Australia. Amandajm (talk) 11:51, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shared or Role Accounts[change source]

For what particular reason should editors use only one account? Secondly, the accounts that you blocked under English Wikipedia-almost all the accounts are shared via multiple Wikipedia editors. Im Shirley, AKA Tropicalstormshirley, and nothing on English Wikipedia mentions stuff about what constitutes abuses of multiple accounts (vandalizing is NOT our intent while editing Wikipedia, Wikinews, Simple Wikipedia and other WikiProject Networks.

Can you answer these? And also to notify that we are students with UW-Lacrosse. Univ of Wis-LaCrosse Students (talk) 03:36, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can find the full details about role accounts at m:Role accounts. They are not sanctioned by the Wikimedia Foundation at all, and although their use has been proposed, any role accounts are blocked on sight, partly because of security. An account used by a number of people creates a higher risk. Please bear these rules in mind, and while using an account here, do not share it with anyone else. Just to let you know, here, we don't have a policy for delinking dates. We haven't decided as a community if we should delink dates or not. I would suggest that you bring this up at Simple Talk before you do a full scale delinking. Just a thought...Razorflame 16:57, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. I wasn't doing "full scale delinking", I was removing the links for dates that didn't give the article any context. I do it often, all over the place. Seemed pretty non-controversial to me, but if you think there should be a policy regarding this sort of thing, I'll bring it up later. PeterSymonds (talk) 17:04, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nah. No need to. I was not sure if you were doing a full scale delinking, though. That is the main reason why I brought this up. You solved the issue for me with your reply. Cheers, Razorflame 17:06, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. :) The debate at enwiki was rather rigorous last time I checked, but I've made it general habit to remove links to dates that don't add any context. If something happened on August 15 1901, it's the event that matters, not the date itself, unless the date was particularly significant to the event. Just my thoughts. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 17:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to agree with you here. The event is the important thing, although the date it happened on can be quite significant as well (not always, though). Razorflame 14:19, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The trend[change source]

Have you noticed the current trend in relation to the amount of vandalism that this site has been getting lately? Lately, I have noticed a sharp increase in the amount of vandalism that the Simple English Wikipedia has gotten. Have you noticed it as well? Cheers, Razorflame 14:18, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't really noticed a trend. The amount of vandalism from known school IPs suggests to me that SEWP is actually used in schools. Otherwise I can't imagine how it attracts so many. However, it's seemed pretty consistent while I've been active here. I could be wrong. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 14:23, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Since I have been here over a year, I should know about the amount of vandalism that this site used to get in the past. In the past, we would only have maybe 15-20 reverts a day (if we were lucky); now, it seems like we are getting maybe 30-50 reverts a day.....that to me seems like an increase. I would have to agree with you, though, that the amount of use that this site gets at schools has increased, which is a good sign :). Cheers, Razorflame 14:46, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, well that's perfectly natural. Enwiki's vandalism only increases. It has never noticeably decreased. You're right, of course; as wikis grow, they become more popular, more visible, and the vandalism becomes more prominent. It's both a good thing and a bad thing! Closing RfAs[change source]

Hello, even if you are SNOWing RfAs, you should add them to the archives (as SNOW). Besides, would'nt it be a crat's task to close RfAs?--Eptalon (talk) 11:07, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didnt't close the first one, just put the archive banner on it. I closed the second and placed it in the archive. Well, SNOW RfAs (at least on the English Wikipedia, and I assumed here as well) can be closed by any editor in good standing, so I didn't see it as an issue. However, if you disagree, you're more than welcome to re-open it. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 11:09, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't disagree - but if you see it as a problem, we might discuss it on the admin noticeboard; Claimgoal was an obvious SNOW case, and the other user was invovled in a sock farm - Not something I would consider a good position to request adminship from. --Eptalon (talk) 11:12, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight pre-requisites[change source]

Since we're doing this rather ad-hoc, I'm just making sure that all candidates have read (and can accept) the Foundation's requirements for Oversight candidates. Please double check m:Oversight#Access to make sure you're eligible. EVula // talk // // 18:20, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I was rouge nominated it seems, but I find it incredibly amusing that, despite the fact that I haven't accepted or transcluded, I still get voted on. :) For the record, I meet the WMF requirements, but I won't be running at present. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 19:28, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I saw that it was blank, but that it wasn't stopping anybody... *shrug* That's the problem with smaller wikis; it's easy to see everything on RC. :)
I've marked the RfOS as "declined". Now let's see if that stops anyone from voting...EVula // talk // // 19:31, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya Peter! I've readded the criterion that you removed from QD, (QD:R1 Redirect to page that does not exist). I was not sure why it was removed, but I think it should remain there. I have explained my reasoning on the MediaWiki talk page. Please also note it remained in the {{QD}} template and was being used by editors to request QD. Thanks! fr33kman talk 02:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My talk page on the English Wikipedia[change source]

Hi there PeterSymonds!

If you are the PeterSymonds on the English Wikipedia, could you please take a look at this discussion at my English Wikipedia talk page and warn the editors involved to refrain from posting there as I am blocked from editing there ("account creation blocked, cannot edit own talk page") per my block log there? Thanks! Mythdon (talkchanges) 23:04, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Talk page stalker pounce) For what it's worth it appears they decided that you were right and not to talk on that page since you can't respond Jamesofur (talk) 23:09, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I appears that they still need warnings. I am waiting for PeterSymonds to post them on their talk pages. Mythdon (talkchanges) 23:11, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind it. —Mythdon [talk] [changes] 22:23, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

68.89.69.145[change source]

So that IP was up to something. Hmm... After a review of the users contributions, it looks like a vandalism IP address. That leads me to question the purpose of the article Sweetness which I assumed good faith, and warned the user on its talk page that the addition needed to be cited to reliable sources (warning modification). What should be done with that article? —Mythdon (talk) (changes) 20:42, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see you blocked another Bambifan sock...[change source]

I tried to get this guy's original edits deleted and reverted per a discussion at the admin noticeboard; either this guy is blocked/banned or he isn't. So...what is there to do? I have clobbered this guy more times than I can count at English and I feel dreadfully impotent at not being able to do more than to scream, yell and point. There has to be something more to be done at this point; what does one have to do to get a formal complaint filed with his primary IP? I have had it to the point of walking away from all of these projects because I care about them too much to see them ruined by the like of this person. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 04:08, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Far too bitey"[change source]

Could you please explain how this is "bitey"? —Mythdon [talk] [changes] 22:02, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That warning was absolutely inappropriate, Mythdon. Everyone that edits here are not native speakers and will not always have perfect spelling or grammar. Even the ones that are native make mistakes now and then. Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 22:04, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to be avoid being "bitey" as much as possible, and felt that the message was appropriate. There were several typos in the IP's edits to the article, and I felt that I needed to advise them to avoid those mistakes. No offense was intended. —Mythdon [talk] [changes] 22:08, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Petersymonds[change source]

Hello, PeterSymonds. I'm sorry to trouble you, but my sister, Pretty Lydie, is distressed because she was blocked. She has been working very hard and earnestly on Wikipedia, and is perplexed at why she was blocked. Perhaps it's because of Eunice, that is, Mella Mouse, her sister? Because they use the same computer, they have oft been confused as being the same person, tho' I assure you they are very different. I feel sorry for Eunice, but as she is only nine years old I believe she is too young to maturely use this wikipedia, and I do not strongly object to your blocking her (and maybe the IP address), but I believe Pretty Lydie does not merit an indefinite blocking. Thank you very much for your attention on this subject: if you will be so kind as to reply, please notify me on my talk page. Classical Esther 10:39, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

She has been caught in the autoblock, which I've now removed. PeterSymonds (talk) 10:41, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much, PeterSymonds. Classical Esther 10:51, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Petersymonds, sorry for writing again, but Pretty Lydie insisted. She is blocked again, and is very distressed. O, I think she wrote an e-mail to you because she couldn't edit your page...just in case you didn't check it. Happy editing! Classical Esther 03:49, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Peter![change source]

You are extremely kind to redirect the WikiProject page I made about WikiDragons... but... why did you redirect it to User:Belinda/WikiDragon instead of Wikipedia:WikiDragon, I wonder? :)Just curious! Thankyou! Belle (talk) 06:40, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not really appropriate for the Wikipedia space, as it's more of a fun personal essay than a WikiProject page, if that makes sense. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 06:42, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
O, but I can improve it, and so can other skilled Editors... :) You see, how about Wikifairies? Classical Esther, my sister, made it, but it is still a WikiProject page. Can't you move it back, so that I can improve it and make it more "wikipedia"-ish? I don't think anybody could really find it if you put it there... Just a thought. If it's not reasonable enough, you don't need to! But thankyou anyway! Belle (talk) 08:41, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mythdon[change source]

Peter,

Having reviewed almost every one of his (her?) contributions, I had intended to readjust your block of Mythdon to not expire, until he can verbalize (can one verbalize anything on wiki?) what is problematic, and begin editing mainspace. While I agree with your action, I don't think it is enough. I wanted your thoughts before I did anything, however. Best, and warmly, NonvocalScream (talk) 05:05, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No objection. PeterSymonds (talk) 13:54, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why delete?[change source]

Why did you delete all the articles that one IP made? They were perfectly fine weren't they? mccon99 16:16, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, they were all useless micro-stubs. PeterSymonds (talk) 16:18, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

delete?[change source]

I noticed that you deleted this template. However, the teacher's guide for schools specifies that this is allowed. I also note you blocked an account under your criteria. Who is correct? I am inclined to unblock it, since we could always use more editors, and the reasons outlined in my second link are good reasons. Thoughts? Griffinofwales (talk) 16:55, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why?! Protector of Wiki (talk) 16:21, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's a perfectly valid article. Fix it yourself. PeterSymonds (talk) 16:25, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's nominated for deletion on English for notability, and it will be deleted! Protector of Wiki (talk) 16:27, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If it's truly non-notable, you know the process to follow. It's not valid under A3. PeterSymonds (talk) 16:37, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is already nominated at RfD; however, it is valid under A3 because it is a facsimile of the English article! Protector of Wiki (talk) 16:39, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IP block[change source]

The IP that you blocked was never warned. πr2 (talk • changes) 16:18, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings are a courtesy if you think the user in question may turn around and edit constructively. In many cases the contrary is obvious and blocks may be issued immediately. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:22, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
