Twinkle problem

Hi, there is a problem with Twinkle - it won't let you add a warning to a new page. I have been using a 2 step process - create the page with a date heading, save, and then go back and use Twinkle to add the warning. Its a pain, but until it gets fixed, that's the best. --Peterdownunder (talk) 23:36, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip. It's been a year since I've edited WP, so I thought I might have forgotten how to warn. πr2 (talk • changes) 23:37, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think I could get patroller? πr2 (talk • changes) 00:30, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chess

I know you worked with good intentions, but I'm afraid you haven't helped the problem on Fast chess / Rapid chess, as neither of these is a proper chess term, just two words in English stuck together by a user. The terms used in chess are more specific: rapidplay or blitz, which are in the List of chess terms

There is, of course, room for an article going into the whole history of rates of play at chess. However, we did discuss and decide to keep the chess pages relatively simple. For this reason the List of chess terms was created rather than a host of detailed pages. The definitions on that list are guaranteed to be reliable, they don't need to be redirected to bad pages somewhere else! Another time on a subject like chess, where I am expert and have reference books, you might ask me to look at a problem before you flag it. Flagging delays some simpler solutions. Yes. Thank you very much :). Only a tiny thing: the w in was should not be capitalized. πr2 (talk • changes) 11:57, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick note, we generally don't patrol pages outside of the Article namespace, although it's technically available for other namespaces we don't as there's no urgent need to do so. Thanks!

TW

Hi PiR. Just letting you know, when I reverted this edit using TW rollback, the bit at the end that usually says (TW) didn't come up. Instead, there was ([[TW...). Can you fix it? Thanks! --Orashmatash 19:57, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It happened because the edit summary was longer than the maximum; it was wikt:truncated. If you mean change the old summary, then no. If you mean change the 'twinkle*.js's to always include that part, then yes. I think this is the intended behavior, but it shouldn't be so hard to fix if it's not. πr2 (talk • changes) 00:22, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't just think Speed of Sound is the best coldplay song, i know it is because it is simply amazing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frog wizard return machine (talkcontribs)

That's your opinion. Please do not add things which others may disagree with to articles. Thank you, πr2 (t • c) 00:51, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if they disagree then they are stupid. It's like saying "it's only your opinion that the sky is blue", but it's just a simple fact. so why would it just be my "opinion" if speed of sound simply is the best? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frog wizard return machine (talkcontribs)

I have a question

Why did you say welcome to Wikipedia to me recently if I first edited in June (six months ago)? Just asking. P.S. this wiki needs A LOT of HELP! Conker the Squirrel (talk) 00:12, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did not edit at all in June... some people don't welcome all new users, but I think it's nice and helpful. Note that my first non-deleted edit I made logged in on this wiki was on 23 Oct 2009, yet I was welcomed 19 Feb 2010 (if it makes you feel any better). πr2 03:55, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

is not helpful, nor appropriate. The thread is over one month old and had been archived for nearly 5 days - clearly closed. If you want to bring something up that is relevant, you should create a new topic on the relevant noticeboard with a link back to previous discussions, so that further talk can take place on the topic if required, or so that action can be taken. There is no need to add to a topic that is over one month old, and clearly 'dormant'. Goblin 22:05, 26 December 2011 (UTC) I ♥ Orashmatash![reply]

Anagram vs Name

In the battle of which is right between an Anagram of a title and its actual name, I think the name is the correct choice and the anamagram should be the redirect. SOPA -> "Stop Online Piracty Act" not the other way. 70.184.171.16 (talk) 05:44, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Thank you for posting on my talk page. Yes, I've come over from the standard English wikipedia, which they have blacked out today, a decision I do not agree with, but that's show biz. It's beneficial in that it gives me a chance to expand or create some of the baseball articles here. I noticed they have an entry for Wrigley Field, while a lot of the other ballparks are redlinks. So I figure to use the Wrigley stub as a model for creating stubs for the other current stadiums. Does that sound like a good and harmless place to start? :) Baseball Bugs (talk) 17:45, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes :) You might want to use {{Infobox Stadium}} when you make a page about a baseball stadium. Happy editing ("changing" here ;)), πr2 17:48, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My biggest problem is liable to be to know what constitutes "simple" English. I'm counting on other editors to let me know when I'm using too many multi-syllabic (big) words. :) Baseball Bugs (talk) 18:06, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I made some changes to the Wrigley Field article. I wonder if you would mind critiquing it before I do anything else here. Of the few blue-linked ballparks, I'm seeing inconsistency in the writing, and would like to polish them up a bit. But first I have to have a clue what I'm doing. :) ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots21:37, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good job! :) Can you add a few references for some of those claims? πr2 21:46, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will, once the regular wikipedia comes back online. :) So the general layout looks good? Not too many big words? I take it redlinks are "encouraged", in that it will (hopefully) spur others to write. About how many articles does the site have at present? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots22:07, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"About how many articles does the site have at present?" {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} -> 250,852 ([1]). "disbanded" is probably the most complex word there. (the enwiki page can be seen at [1]). Redlinks encourage new pages, but excessive redlinking is not good (see WP:RL). πr2 22:13, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was trying to think of a simple synonym for "disbanded". Maybe "went out of business"? That seems a bit too colloquial, though. I think I'll try to avoid the redlinks for now, or at least create some sort of stub article. And thanks for the "?banner=0" override, which I had somehow missed in the discussion. Although after midnight tonight it will be moot. The Wrigley article on the regular wikipedia is elephantine. Copying an article from there to here and paring it down does seem like a reasonable approach, though that could raise "copyright" issues. Clearly I need to read the guidelines. I've heard some things about this site, one being that contentiousness is not tolerated. That would be a welcome change! Also, I gather that only free photos are allowed - which, by itself, would substantially reduce potential contentiousness. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots22:27, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You should see this page about copying from enwiki. Images cannot be uploaded here, we only allow Commons files (with a few exceptions: Special:ListFiles). You can put {{enwpbased}} on the talkpage, with url=[URL of permalink]. See the link at the beginning. πr2 22:38, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Now, if I largely create a page from scratch, even if I use some of the references cited in normal wikipedia, do I still need to do any attribution? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots22:48, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

The congressman who came up with the SOPA law/bill/act was caught by the media for having an image on his campaign website without proper attribution, which was required by the copyright license of the image. A few politicians were caught, but Lamar was the proposer of the bill and forbes.com wrote up about it, quite a few did. The irony made it newsworthy in a big way.

Anyhow, the image in question, by an artist called DJ, is an image I uploaded onto wiki after contacting the artist and requesting if he would change the license, which he graciously did. However, even though it's a notable image, someone took it to the BLP noticeboard which I'm not familiar with and prevented it's use on the english wikipedia article, or at least i think they did, or I couldn't work out how to fit the proper text to the image and that editor wouldn't tell me. Shrug. whatever. The image with the XXX's is that artists protest against the SOPA bill, which is also out there talked about in the news.

The image, called Mist lifting off cedars' is notable and newsworthy, and all wikipedia knows how to use it for is botanical articles. It's a disgrace. Penyulap (talk) 09:18, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why you're telling this to me. Maybe ask at Talk:Stop Online Piracy Act or Wikipedia:Simple talk. πr2 20:19, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
