June 2015[change source]

Welcome to Wikipedia. A page you made may not meet our rules for new pages, so it will shortly be removed. Please use the sandbox for any tests. You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about changing. Thank you. Peterdownunder (talk) 13:25, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked from changing Wikipedia for 3 hours for making bad pages. If you do not agree with this block, please reply on your talk page by adding {{unblock|reason}}, replacing reason with why you think the block is wrong. If you cannot do this or the reason is private, please send an e-mail to simple-admins-l@lists.wikimedia.org and an administrator will look at your reason and reply.

Your pages had little or no content. New pages should say something meaningful. Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:30, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You asked about the article Elgin Baylor on my talk page. I thought the following might be helpful:
http://www.biography.com/people/elgin-baylor-21088777
http://www.nba.com/history/players/baylor_bio.html
http://www.landofbasketball.com/nba_players/b/elgin_baylor.htm
Also the Wikipedia:Citing sources page has citation templates you can copy and paste into the article, then just fill them out. User:Rus793 (talk) 16:17, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit on Bobbi Kristina Brown. To better understand please read Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. Wikipedia does not report on current events and we are not a fan page. Case in point, what you added is no longer current—(see the US weekly story). That's why we don't do it. Also see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Biographical material about a living person is sensitive. It has to be correct and it has to be shown to be correct with reliable source citations. An editor can add the information but in the past tense and include the complete chain of events. As an example see en:Bobbi Kristina Brown#2015_hospitalization. While the article could be improved, you can see how it was done. You can also improve the stub here so her biography doesn't jump directly from her birth to being hospitalized as an adult. I'm not sure myself what to do with that section on Adult life with her mother's death. But articles have to follow Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did to Mindy Kaling. Thank you. Fylbecatulous talk 15:12, 25 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop making bad pages. If you continue, you may be blocked from changing pages on Wikipedia. Macdonald-ross (talk) 17:17, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You simply need to provide more information than was in this stub. It would not have been kept with virtually nothing in it about who he was, what he did, or even what country he was from. I improved this one to a better stub and you can do most of these things I did yourself. Look it over and anything you want to know how to do, just ask. Simple sentences[change source]

When you decide to create a new article by copying one from enwiki, you can't just copy it and paste it here. Most enwiki articles are too complex for this wiki. A case in point is The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. You need to first read what it is you intend to copy at the other Wikipedia. If I looked at it thinking to copy it here I'd realize is has some real problems—meaning it will take more work to make a good article out of it here. But, those are also opportunities to learn. First thing to do is to simplify the sentences. One easy way is to look for the word 'and' in the middle of a compound sentence (or in this case a compound-complex sentence). For example, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest is an American animated action-adventure television series produced by Hanna-Barbera and broadcast on Cartoon Network from August 26, 1996 to April 16, 1997. Remove the word and (go ahead and edit it) replacing it with a period and capitalize the B in broadcast (this doesn't work when the word 'and' is part of a series of things like Peter, Paul and Mary). Next, look at the first sentence and see if you can simplify it further. It is still a complex sentence so you can. Change it to: The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest is an American animated action-adventure television series. It was produced by Hanna-Barbera. See what you can do with the article to further simplify it and then wikify it. The next article you copy from enwiki, I would strongly encourage you to copy it into your Wikipedia:Sandbox and work on it there. That way you can work on the changes without having to worry another patroller will do something with it (because as this one is now it wouldn't be accepted). Anyway, if you can, work on Jonny Quest as soon as you read this. Thanks User:Rus793 (talk) 13:23, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The first sentence, for example, should be broken down into at least three simple sentences. It's been tagged instead of deleted so you still have time to work on it. User:Rus793 (talk) 15:21, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dudley Dudley is another stub that has some examples for you. It gets mentioned repeatedly, but Wikipedia is not "breaking news", it's an encyclopedia. When a stub has more about a political endorsement than the person, that's not what what Simple English Wikipedia is about. An article about a notable person has to be about the person. Besides, if readers do not know who she is, what can it matter anyway who she endorses? Before endorsements could be anything more than trivia, it has to be established who she is and why she is important. I think that might take more than a stub article. In addition, when you create (or copy) an article about a living person, special rules apply. It is called a Biography of a living person. Take the time to look at the stub now and note the differences. BTW, if you are interested in writing about news events there is a wiki for that called Wikinews.User:Rus793 (talk) 15:21, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Quick deletion of Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev[change source]

User:Rus793 (talk) 19:51, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Combining two subjects can get tricky and each one already has their own article. When creating an article, always check first to see if an article exists. I get caught by this every now and then when I forget to check first. User:Rus793 (talk) 19:53, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You started the very short (you mentioned you knew it was short) stub Jim Lehrer. I expanded it to a better stub. Copying the information from enwiki (then simplifying, wikifying more and attributing it) resulted in quite a few red links. One thing editors do is to take the red links and expand them into at least good stub articles. That way they create the articles they need. Editors should improve the articles they do start as best they can before moving on to creating another stub. Realize some of these won't get improved by other editors—we simply don't have enough editors to get to all of them. Eventually they could be deleted, if not sooner. All of us try not to make work for the other editors so the more we can do the better for the community. Anyway, I fixed two or three red links, then thought this would make a good exercise for you. You started the article and get credit for it, do you want to expand a bit into creating support articles? Take any red link and create the stub. If the enwiki article lead section has source citations, all the better. Copy the code into the new article and do a preview to test it out. Then edit to shorten and simplify sentences. Add links to other simplewiki articles and create a reference section for the citations. Let me know either way if you'd like to do this. Without feedback or questions I have to guess at what to show you. Have a good 4th. Thanks User:Rus793 (talk) 22:04, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization[change source]

Hi, Thahouseusers2015. When you create articles, please be careful with capitalization. You created "Circuit city", which should have been "Circuit City". You also created "Social Worker", which should have been "Social worker". In general, the first letter of an article title should be in upper case, and the rest should be in lower case unless it is a proper noun. If you're not sure, you can always check the English Wikipedia article to see how it's done there -- they usually have it right. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:44, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fighting vandalism[change source]

Here are a couple of links you will find very helpful. Wikipedia:Vandalism since it is helpful to recognize it in all its forms. Also see Wikipedia:Rules for an all-in-one collection of links to policies and guidelines. Pay particular attention to the Behaviour guidelines. Assuming good faith is very important as is not biting newcomers even if they do engage in vandalism. User:Rus793 (talk) 13:46, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

categorizing[change source]

Thanks for creating new articles here! As a next step in creating good articles, it would be good to include appropriate categories. If you aren't sure what categories to include, you can either ask for help (I'm always happy to help people learn this) or look at similar existing articles to see what they use. There is also some information at WP:Categories. Feel free to let me know if you have questions about this. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:05, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
