Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia

Hi, The Rambling Man! Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! Thank you for your changes.

If you need help, check out the Help section of Wikipedia, or leave a message on my talk page.

Whenever leaving messages on talk pages, please remember to sign your name by typing four 'tildes' (like this: ~~~~); doing this makes your name and the date show up. Also, it helps if you write something in the box that says 'edit summary' whenever you change an article.

Below are some useful links to make your time here simpler.

If you make a short article please mark it with {{stub}}, our guideline is here: Stubs

Happy editing! Razorflame 19:55, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to see you here

Nice to see you here! Welcome to our little community :) Majorly (talk) 20:23, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All looks good. Interwiki links are important though so remember to include them (just copy them off the English Wikipedia article). Majorly (talk) 11:48, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, popups is in the Gadgets section of your prefs :) Majorly (talk) 12:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Complex words

I just wanted to let you know that you should always look for more simple words that would fit into an article the same that the more complex words would. Founded to started is an example of this. Thanks, Razorflame 15:55, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome

Thanks for your welcome message. Just as you suggest that I sign my messages with four tildes, it would be good if you signed your welcome message that way, too. Particularly since you say I can ask you for help, and I have to figure out who you are otherwise. --Art Carlson (talk) 09:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BD template

I noticed that you are using the births and deaths categories without using this template. {{BD}} Could you please use this for person pages you create in the future? Thanks, Razorflame 20:16, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your creation of many articles in a short period of time, I hereby award you this barnstar! Razorflame 19:35, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

Thanks! I didn't realise the amount of work that needs to be done here. It appears there are no active editors from NI, so I'm having to do it all myself! (on a positive note, no political POV-pushing) It's nice to take a break from the cut and thrust of en.wikipedia and do some worthwhile editing. But make sure you don't let those 'crat tools go rusty ;-) EJF (talk) 17:52, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Songwriter / The Brill Building

I disagree with your reasoning (though I won't contest your change, at this time), and I sorta wish you had moved the Brill Building data to its own new entry, instead of simply removing it. This Wiki could use such an entry. Zephyrad (talk) 19:21, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, I'm OK with creating a new entry, and will likely do that today. It just irks me rather, when information is removed instead of moved (or improved); I recently went through what turned into a nasty, basically pointless debate on that subject, on English Wikipedia. (I just might list and link the Brill Building, with some sublistings for specific writers from it, on the songwriter page.) Cheers. Zephyrad (talk) 19:38, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings

Here are a list of warnings that we use here on the Simple English Wikipedia:

  • {{test1}} First level warning for general vandalism.
  • {{test2}} Second level warning for general vandalism.
  • {{test3}} Third level warning for general vandalism.
  • {{test4}} Final level warning for general vandalism.
  • {{test5}} A blocked template. Should be used by an administrator just before a block.

Removing content warnings

  • {{test2a}} First level warning for removing content.
  • {{test3a}} Second level warning for removing content.
  • {{test4}} Same one as listed above, but can also be used as a final warning for removing content.

Test article warnings

These are for administrator use

  • {{block}} For indef blocks of vandalizing users.
  • {{blocked}} For indef blocks of established named users.

Cheers, Razorflame 14:53, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why I gave you these warnings was because I noticed that you were reverting vandalism, and I also noticed that you seemed to not know what the warnings were. This is the same post that I posted to several other promising accounts in the past and I managed to scrounge it up for you.

Also, if you are at a loss for other pages, you should check out the page WP:RFD for requests for deletion and WP:RFA for requests for adminship.

Cheers, Razorflame 15:28, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Care providers in your own home

Yes it can , and it has been deleted by Tygrrr as spam. Oysterguitarist 22:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RFD and WP:RFA

I believe that you are an established enough account here to vote on both the open RFA's and the open RFD's. You can find both pages at WP:RFD and WP:RFA. Cheers, Razorflame 15:51, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replied

I replied to your post at Razorflame's talkpage.-- Lights  talk  12:13, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I did the one on Lights' page. It's musical admins!!! -- Creol(talk) 12:26, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added note on the topic: Moving/changing categories. As Lights said, cats cannot be moved. With any category name change, each article in the old category has to be changed to the new one. For the most part I would suggest either bringing the idea of a category name change up here or talking to either Barliner, Tygrrr or myself before making major changes. That page is the closest we have to a wikiproject:categories and we three are the editors with the most experience dealing with our category tree and some of it's oddities. Adding new cats is one thing, but major renaming should be discussed first. -- Creol(talk) 12:43, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you?

You earlier offered to change the references that I made into cite webs. Can I ask if you would be willing to do that for me for all the articles that I've created since yesterday? Thanks in advance, Razorflame 15:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

English Wikipedia

I've been pretty busy on the English Wikipedia lately. Thought you might like to know because you are a 'crat there. Cheers, Razorflame 13:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was just wondering why we needed a caption. It, in my opinion, is selfexplainitory

Fine to see you at work at British history! To help users even further with every article you should mention the interwikis, monarchs you may always use the infoboxes. In any case if one takes material from the English Wikipedi, as you did, one shoul mention it on the talk page. Creol created the template {{Enwp based}} to be placed on the talk pages of articles that are created based on simplified versions of En:wp pages. The template requires the complete address of the version used as the basis for the article (and will tell you if you don't include the url) while providing a link to the version itself and informing the reader of the available history of the article. This should completely cover the reference back/history requirements under the GFDL.

To see what that means you may look at your article now. --Cethegus (talk) 05:36, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Friends

I am happy to tell you that I've added you to my friends list here on the Simple English Wikipedia. You are definitely someone who is a true editor here on the Wikipedia, and therefore, I wouldn't mind to have you on my friends list. Cheers, Razorflame 16:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, hello there. So... BRC is slowly taking over this Wikipedia, as well? Nice. нмŵוτнτ 19:38, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hello. I would like to have a lame edit war with you on this Wikipedia. Where do I start? I'm thinking of insisting Main Page should be Main Pages because there have been lots of Main Pages. After that, I thought I might find a template we could argue over. Maybe whether or not there should be dots in initials in it. --86.146.209.237 (talk) 11:49, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Never mind. How about collaborating on Iwan Roberts or John Wark: Who is uglier? --86.146.209.237 (talk) 12:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That would be... Roberts. Now sod off back to the en-Wikipedia before I hunt you down...! The Rambling Man (talk) 12:11, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you nominate that page for QD per QD R3? It's not an uncommon typo, it's a new championship announced last night.--   ChristianMan16  19:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is common placement for an article on enWP and I just want to have it covered to redirect it to the main article cause there's no call for it yet. It is linked here though...From now on check Special:Whatlinkshere before nominating for that reason again.--   ChristianMan16  19:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Which is why it redirects to the main page. And enWP is overreacting on the title. They tend to do things like that.--   ChristianMan16  19:44, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done - It was the same list. Cheers --  AmericanEagle  20:18, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay then. Well, it's up to you Rambling Man. You don't have to review me. Best, RyanCross (talk) 09:59, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
While I don't fully understand that little discussion (!) I'm happy to review your work Ryan. Allow me some time to check how you're getting on and I'll post you my thoughts. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:20, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I appreciate it. And about the above discussion. You see, I asked User:Microchip08 to review me also, but s/he said that I was canvassing. I thought that asking someone to review you politly and only asking once wasn't canvassing. I thought that forcing someone to review you by asking many times was canvassing. Mircochip thought I was right, but I already striked my request for you to review me here, thus, leading him to say "Wayhey! Don't do that! That was not what I meant!". I then unstruked my cmt. Confusing, but that's what happened. Nothing went wrong. Anyway, I'll be hoping for a feedback on my editing. Best, RyanCross (talk) 10:27, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, by the way. I would support your RfA, but I can't because the policies state that I can't !vote on RfAs that were active when I created my account. Anyway, I'll be waiting for your review on me. ;) -- RyanCross (talk) 07:54, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My recent revert

Hello. Again, I know it is not a big deal, but congrats on the adminship. Anyway, I'm usually good at telling vandalism from good faith edits apart, but in this case, I'm not so sure of. Can I have what you think on the situation? -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 08:23, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll use the undo tool next time, explaining why I reverted it the next time I encounter a change that is similar to it. I think a {{test1}} would be appropriate too, right? Either that, it would be {{spam}}. Thoughts? -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 08:30, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is what I did. If you think it should be changed, then feel free to change it and tell me. But I thought it was a good warning to start with. -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 08:42, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletions

Please clear the default summary before deleting, they can be quite offensive, and they can't be removed. See Special:Preferences in Gadgets. Thanks. Majorly talk 14:52, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

float:center;

fyi, float:center; doesn't do anything; valid values are left, right, none. For centering a block-level element you want margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto; or similar code; for centering inside block-level elements, use text-align:center;. Also, 'beige' is not a standard color value; some browsers will support it, but some may not (mine did); it doesn't validate though, so you should avoid it; use numbers. I never user named colors other than Black, White, Red, Green, and Blue (and validators whinge if you don't capitalize the first letter).

Saw this; good on ya. Cheers, Jack Merridew 16:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Or he could just type <div align="center">insert text here</div>.--   ChristianMan16  22:18, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You would be best-off not following ChristianMan16's advice; align="center" is deprecated in strict doc-types. He's looking for;
  • <div style="text-align: center;">insert text here</div>
Cheers, Jack Merridew 11:19, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What you want him to do only centers text...while mine centers everything within it.--   ChristianMan16  13:10, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
try it… Jack Merridew 15:02, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Guys, guys, thanks for all the advice but I guess you're referring to the box I copied from en-wiki and pasted over here to say RFA thanks. I don't mean to be rude but I didn't really care what the markup was doing, I just liked the colour and the cat...! Thanks for your advice.... The Rambling Man (talk) 14:40, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why I opposed your RfA

I opposed because I don't know you as an editor. I still though you needed more time in all the "special" pages of S.E. Wikipedia as in the Wikipedia namespace. You are a trusted editor on enWP which is why you've made it to first Admin status then 'Crat status. But those powers there doesn't mean I can automatically entrust you with Admin status here. Plain and simple aI don't know you so on those grounds I couldn't support you RfA. But obviously that doesn't matter cause you are now an Admin here.....CONGRATS!!!!!--   ChristianMan16  22:16, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

Ohai Rambling Man. :) I had a question. Is this really necessary to do? Oh, and my other question was how do you think I'm doing so far here in my editing, reverting, etc. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 16:30, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My reply here. Feel free to reply to it yourself. -- RyanCross (talk) 16:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I was a bit annoyed for Wikipedia users to be doing that, but now I see. Thanks for the clarification on that. Cheers, RyanCross (talk) 17:08, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That makes sense, but I am horrible at British English and my spell-checker says they're wrong. Any work you could do for that is would be needed - that's something that I cannot do. Cheers -- America alk 22:56, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

Hi, I was wondering if you could give me a hand with categories? I have created a new category (Category:Scottish Football Clubs). Is it possible to split that further, into sub-categories, Such as Scottish Premier League Clubs, Scottish First Division Clubs, Second Division etc. Is that possible? If so, how? Thanks in advance ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 12:43, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Kennedy, got your message. Yes, it's perfectly possible to create sub-categories.

Simply create your new category, e.g. Category:Scottish Premier League clubs (and note the small c of clubs) and put Category:Scottish Football Clubs as one of it's categories. That will do it. Typically when I create a category I also add a few words like "This category contains articles about Scottish football (soccer) clubs. Hope that helps - give me a shout if you need anything further. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:23, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks very much for your reply. Could you check I have done this correctly?

Also, you noted specifically the lowercase 'c', why is it specifically lowercase? Thanks again for your help ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 13:33, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, looks good to me. Small "c" (and "f) because it follows the manual of style (i.e. they're not proper nouns). You can recreate a new cat Category:Scottish football clubs instead of Category:Scottish Football Clubs, move the current members of the Clubs cat to the clubs cat and then request a speedy deletion of the Clubs cat based on the fact it's now empty. Give me a shout if you need help with any of that. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:39, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, done that. Now for my mission: Make an article for every Scottish Football team. Should take me a while :) ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 17:27, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck! Let me know if I can be of further use. All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:49, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just FYI, I made this edit to remove the "Scottish football clubs" category because "Scottish Premier League clubs]] is a sub-category of it and therefore doesn't need to be there as well. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:09, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<-Heh, never thought of that actually. I suppose it makes sense :P - Thanks for the help, will probably pick your brains again. Hide while you can! ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 20:58, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ohai Rambling Man. In my editor review, you said I should try to write a WP:GA from scratch. Well, I created the above article a while ago and I'm currently trying to bring it up to GA status. Could you help? -- RyanCross (talk) 07:03, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We should continuo this discussion on Talk:Baseball uniform so everyone can see what's going on. I'll point out some things there. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 07:14, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I'll be working on creating the red links around the article. The major problems are the statements with the {{fact}} template next to them. Maybe you can start from there. I don't know if you know much about baseball though... -- RyanCross (talk) 07:39, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Oh, and I leave for 5 minutes and you've already done some editing. Good job. Well, I'll try creating stubs for those red links now, I just need to do something first. Oh, and I would like to invite you to join WikiProject Baseball. I've gathered some useful resources you can search on also if you look at the page of WikiProject Baseball. -- RyanCross (talk) 08:04, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, there you are. I see you on my watchlist reverting vandalism and now your here. User:Gwib said he'll take care of all the referencing, so you won't have to worry much about that. Just simplifying and copyediting would be a good thing to do now. There are only a few red links around the article now, so I'll try creating them. -- RyanCross (talk) 09:40, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks for pointing that out. Most articles at en-wikipedia have it in that order I did, so I thought it was a policy to do so. My mistake. -- RyanCross (talk) 09:44, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Hi there. I'm Journalist, from the English Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Journalist). I'm just a bit curious about this area of Wikipedia. To whom is the Simple English branch of Wikipedia geared? Is it to people who find English difficult (ESL), to children etc. How exactly is it different from the regular version of Wikipedia, and do you think it's existence is necessary? Thank you!. All those articles I tagged were finally deleted. Now I reported the creator of all those deleted pages at WP:VIP because of that and vandalism. Could you review it please? And after that, could you tell me in your opinion if I should nominate baseball uniform yet? Thanks you very much. ^_^ -- RyanCross (talk) 09:38, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I added this to the article. Should I remove it or should I let it stay? It's un-related to the topic of the article, or is that no big deal? -- RyanCross (talk) 10:40, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If so, I can easily remove if it comes up. I'll try to find more references also. Could you point out where you think referencing is needed? Thanks for your help. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 10:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

Hello again. Sorry to bother you with yet another query. I was wondering if you could give me some advice regarding admin. Do you think if I were to request adminship, I would be successful? I've not been here a long time, but have been an en.wiki editor for about a year. 200+ edits to simple.wiki within 2months. Also, regardless of whether or not I should apply now, could you give me some pointers, sort of "Admin Coaching"? If its too much trouble then not to worry, just thought i'd pick at your brains :) Thanks again! ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 15:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Kennedy. Have you read the simple Wikipedia criteria for adminship? I was lucky to be promoted after 2.5 months and a lot of it was based on my experience at en-wiki - being an admin and bureaucrat there seemed to reassure people that I'd do a good job here. I'm not so sure you have the same experience. Anyway, I'm more than happy to help you out where I can on the path to going for it... The Rambling Man (talk) 15:56, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was looking at the criteria. Few hundred edits, about three months. So im close to that. I'll try when i meet the requirements I suppose. Afterall, its no big deal ain't it? :) ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 18:15, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ludwig van Beethoven; Gothic Architecture, and Berlin Wall

Hello, The Rambling Man, here are my comments as to the articles

Berlin Wall

The subject is relatively recent (less than 20 years ago), and I created much of this article by translating the German one. As to references, the German article looks very similar to ours; any references we might get are in the forms of books about the subject. As I am a Computer scientist, and not a historian, I am pretty unlikely to read such books (and find such references). I therefore propose to archive the proposal.

Agreed, however it should be kept in the open as a potential one (I have a few books on it and could find sources in english). --Gwib -(talk)- 06:41, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ludwig van Beethoven

We do have a list of books about the subject, but we have few in-text references; so without reading at least some of the books it is impossible to say that this statement is from that book; or freely cited from there. I do howeber feel that even within a week we might get more in-text references; in other words, this article stands a chance of getting enough support to be voted on.

Not my area. --Gwib -(talk)- 06:41, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gothic architecture

Well-written, well referenced article. The main problem is that there are many links (most of them to Cathedrals, some monarchs, and a few others to various topics). I wrote stubs for some of them, for example:

There are a few more to write. I cannot write all of them alone, though.

I'll help! I'm free all of tomorrow and my father finds gothic architecture fascinating. --Gwib -(talk)- 06:41, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In short, I think that LvB and Gothic architecture deserve the good-article tag; Gothic architecture might qualify for VGA, were it not for the red-links. --Eptalon (talk) 06:14, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two of the three now have an entry in the voting section; let's see... --Eptalon (talk) 08:03, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Cats

Hi Kennedy. Before you go too much further, can I suggest you create a category called Category:Football stadiums in Scotland - this is in-line with existing category names - and recategorise the various stadium articles you've been creating into this one? Then tag the current Category: Scottish Football stadiums category for speedy deletion. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 10:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Man. I did notice that after I made it a sub-category of Category:Football stadiums, I will get round to it. Thanks for the tip though. I'm glad your watching my back :) Regards, ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 10:34, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball uniform

Ohai. It seems the aritcle had a lot more problems than we thought per what Creol added to it's talk page. We should try to complete and fix his ideas. Comments or further ideas in mind? -- RyanCross (talk) 06:51, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I looked it over again, I noticed the "Grand Slam record" section. It was fine, but it reads R2, R3, R4, etc. I don't even know what that means. Maybe a "Note: R2 = Example" thing above it would help with a beginner's understanding of what that means. Err, maybe not. Just a thought. Cheers -- America †alk 18:12, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Much better. I now feel so blonde. You'd think "R2" would be obvious. My bad, but now it's better anyway. Thanks for all you help with Charles Spurgeon, that's a weight off my mind. It was too much for me, you try reading through all this and then translating it into the article. Then you all did the cleanup, copyediting, and changed it to British English (as well as other hard work). Thanks -- 18:41, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I may, but right now, I have to go. Cheers -- America †alk 18:59, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Useful template

Hi Kennedy. For births, deaths and a free default sorting for biographies, use the {{BD}} template. So, for your recent edits, you don't need the individual categories, Category:2007 deaths for example, and you don't need to use {{DEFAULTSORT:O'Donnell, Phil}} (which you might not know about - this ensures when categories are listed out, Phil would appear under O rather than P. Instead of all that, you can use {{BD|1972|2007|O'Donnell, Phil}} and you'll get the two cats and the default sorting for free! Hope that helps. The Rambling Man (talk) 09:48, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that is good! I'll try to remember that too, Thanks! ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 09:58, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stub templates

Hello The Rambling Man. Since I'm supposedly new at Simple English Wikipedia (23 days), I always noticed that there weren't any stub templates for certain topics. En wikipedia has stub templates for almost every topic... but why don't we have any here... besides {{stub}}. I do a lot of stubbing here but I was just wondering why there is only one stub template. Is it because we don't have any portals or many wikiprojects or something? -- RyanCross (talk) 07:10, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for the reply, but what did you mean if I had any suggestions for sub-categories? :/ I'm not sure what your trying to say. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 07:30, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, silly me. :P No, I don't have any ideas at the moment. I think we will just stick to {{stub}} for now. There's just a few other questions I would like to ask you (some are just some silly questions that I just wanted your thought on ;)):
  • 1) (a bit silly question) Is it strange how over half of the WP:VIP reports have been mine? I counted 21 reports... :S
  • 2) Is there a certain limit of administrators here? WIth en-wikipedia so big, they need all the admins they can. But here with not much activity, is there a certain number?
  • 3) (a bit silly question) Why is my edit count so high when I have only been here for 23 days? :S The only user who about matches my "speed" is razorflame. Why is that? this is more of a "what are your thoughts" question
I think I have more. Sorry, but I sometimes consider you my "admin coach" for some reason. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 07:54, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I can only think of one at the moment. Gwib said to me here that I have to get into a big conflict? Do you mind adding your thoughts on that? I don't even know how to get into a conflict unless I purposely do something completely in bad faith. :P Now that I mention it, have you settled or been in a conflict before? -- RyanCross (talk) 08:09, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess that makes sense. I have both, WP:AN and WP:ST on my watchlist but I rarely see any conflicts. But I did look through the RfA archives and I noticed that "bad" RfAs have tons of conflicts... unless a quick WP:SNOW or a WP:NOTNOW <-- I'm guessing that link is red? takes place. Well, I'll hang around Simple and I'll jump into anything big. My other worry would be me writing articles. I have no worry of me not knowing the policies, as I've learned them from EN, and they seem the same reading through them (although we're mssing a few of them), but article writing is a small problems to me, more specifically complexity. Just look at baseball uniform. From what Croel pointed out, I never knew how much problem there was with it. I did some copyediting today. I'm a natural in copyediting, but sometimes, big articles that look good is a problem for me. Anyway you can help, or do you have anything to say? -- RyanCross (talk) 08:22, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<-- Well, there are a few things I hope you could look over.. yes, the baseball uniform one. :P Just take a look at #5 of what Croel said here and the section I tried to fix from what he said here. Do you think I copyedited it right? Oh, and thanks for willing to help me whenever I need it. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 08:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eight does not equal six..

I saw the ">6" in your message and my brain seems to have just locked onto that number for some reason.. -- Creol(talk) 12:09, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question(s)

Hello. I noticed I had a perfect edit summary usage (verify). Again, it seems kind of strange. Another silly question, is that good? this is more like a "what are your thoughts" and a "what should I do" question -- RyanCross (talk) 08:56, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. :) Actually, I don't have my settings tell me to prompt me when I'm entering a blank edit summary. To me, it's just a habbit so I don't need the reminder. Oh, and I was wondering why developers can enable non-administrative rollback here. Is there no need for it or something. I just do fine with rollback on en-wikipedia, but why can't it be used here? Not much activity going on here perhaps? -- RyanCross (talk) 09:12, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey! I was just about to tag the article you just deleted as G2! :P Give me a chance! ;) Hehe, anyway, I used to use popups before I was granted rollback rights on the english wikipedia. I know how to use, so I guess I will have to use that for now. :( I have a few more questions, so just tag along with me. I was wondering if non=administrators can close RfDs. Of course not as delete since they are unable to do that, but I think making non-administrative closures as "keep" when appropriate would be a good way to show good judgement. Is that possible? I'll be right back. I have to handle something on en-wikipedia. -- RyanCross (talk) 09:27, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's good to know. And yes, I know about non-admin closures at WP:AFD. In fact, I normally close AfDs everyday, well, at least the obvious "keep" ones with consensus reached, so there shouldn't be a problem here. But at en-wikipedia, there is no set time when to close AfDs as long consensus is reached, but here, you have to wait 7 days. Do I still have to wait 7 days before I make a non-admin closure of a consensus reached as "keep" debate, or can I close anytime I feel consensus has been reached? -- RyanCross (talk) 09:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, just one more thing, hopefully. In RfAs, why aren't there any questions asked already when a nomination is submitted. For example: At en-wikipedia, there are 3 set questions for RfAs, so why aren't there any here? I know that users can ask questions in the "comments" section, but why aren't there any set questions? -- RyanCross (talk)
Okay, I see. Well, thanks for all your help today, and all the other times I asked for help. I really appreciate it. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 10:03, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kournikova and others

Both. The system here for VGA and GA is broken and does zero to encourage active editors who nominate to pursue the cause. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:07, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spider bites

Dude, I forgot to respond to this part. I was so crushed by your departure! Okay, so yea. The spider bite is healing. It looks a little odd. It was not a Brown Recluse, rather a non-venomous spider. The bite got a bacterial infection, turned into an abscess and I had to have it cut and drained. I do not have insurance, so I was forced to go to the ER. My bills grand total at ~$1,500. Sigh. Needless to say, I hate the United States medical system... and pretty much it could kiss my ass if I didn't have excellent credit. Lucky for them, they get paid, because I'm not letting my credit score drop. >_>

Anyway, I'm glad you're back. I'm going to shamelessly take the Tool-related and other pop culture articles to great quality. I'm sure the experts will cringe. But the core and vitals don't interest me. Hope to see you around! Bathrobe love, LaraLove|Talk 07:47, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is it worth opening a bot account for some of my AWB general cleanup stuff. I made 12 edits in under three minutes when I was changing a load of stub types (here). It would only be for the stuff like that. It's just that it tends to clog up recent changes a little. Hey Tholly - if you're going to be using the bot reqularly you might want to request a bot flag. That shouldn't be a problem - you're trustworthy and it's just basic stub tag changing. —Giggy 10:07, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's no formal request page here, but if an admin thinks the user is suitable, their name is added to this list (sysop protected). I think that's all there is to it, but permission isn't cross wiki. Thanks, - tholly --Turnip-- 10:54, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Iqbal

Hello The Rambling Man. Regarding Muhammad Iqbal, I have added some references. It looks like this is one of the more important thinkers of the two-state theory. With his literature, he seems to be important to the national identity of Pakistan. He also composed the song Saare Jahan se Achcha (which became an anthem for the Indian liberation movement). Regarding the editor: He often copies over parts of EnWP articles; references are usually easy to find. If you can engage them in a dialogue, this would be very welcome. Meanwhile, all the best. --Eptalon (talk) 12:50, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reason to keep last 2 sections

Hi there. I don't want to get into any more edit warring or fights over my RfA anymore, so please hear me out on my reason for moving those 2 sections back to the RfA main page.

The reason why I moved the first section back to the main page of the RfA is because it detailed the fact that I am open for recall and that that is one of the key ideas behind my RfA. The reason why I moved the second section back to the main page of the RfA was because it detailed other restrictions that are placed on me if the RfA succeeds. Both of these sections need to be seen by other users voting on this RfA because they play an important part in helping other editors to decide which way to vote.

I understand that moving only part of the essays to the talk page is censorship and that was not my intention with only moving a part of it to the talk page. I only moved those 2 sections back to the main page of the RfA because they play important parts in the RfA. Cheers, Razorflame 16:43, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha you beat me to recreating...was checking to see if the edit history should be moved back prior to recreating it as an article myself. -Djsasso (talk) 19:51, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this, the contents of the page were about "odd" and ODD" (hence, that information belonged at "Odd" and someone had made a spelling/reading error). I was fixing someone's mistake, not making my own mistake as your edit summary indicated. Just FYI... However, the problem(s) all seem to be taken care of now. · Tygrrr... 20:02, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SPL

Hi, I have done a bit of work on the SPL article, and was wondering if you could have a look through it. I am looking for it to be a GA. Thanks Kennedy (talk) 10:56, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page

Hey Rambler - just a ping to this - there's a little bit of whitespace on the Main page for me (but not much), so if you want to add a bit of text to that lead it'd be good to fill it up (though don't feel obliged, I think it looks OK now). Just a heads up. Cheers, Giggy (talk) 14:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oklahoma fixes

Further comments

  • I do not believe "voter sign-up " is simple English. I'm not sure I know what that means.

 Done

  • " near Anadarko" maybe "near the city of Anadarko" because it isn't clear what Anadarko is.

 Done

  • "Spiro Mound Building " are they all proper nouns? Mound Building links to Mound builders (which isn't capitalised) - if this is a proper noun then I'd expect a wikilink for Spiro Mound Building, not just for Mound Building - what does the Spiro mean?

 Done

  • Remove the space before ref [1] both times in the infobox.

 Done

  • "1861-1865" should use an en-dash, not a hyphen.

Not sure how to do this one?

  • "The oil pools found " this makes me think the oil was found in big puddles - I imagine the oil was underground - the use of "pools" isn't obvious.

It was actully "puddles"

  • "grow very fast" grow very quickly.

 Done

  • "through the Dust Bowl" again, clarify what this is. It's not a football contest, you could say "through a period of time called the Dust Bowl".

 Done

  • "A farmer and his two sons during a dust storm in Cimarron County, 1936." caption is a sentence fragment so it doesn't need a full stop. Same for "A map showing Oklahoma's physical features." and "A tornado in central Oklahoma."

 Done

  • "McVeigh and his partner, Terry Nichols, were both convicted of the attack. " you talked about 9/11 between sentences which makes this "the attack" ambiguous.

 Done

  • You've linked convicted, I would consider linking sentenced as well since both are equally unsimple.

 Done

  • " (181,196 km²) (68,667 sq mi (177,847 km²) are land and 1,293 sq mi (3,349 km²) are water)" is a parenthesis nightmare.

Agree, but it works.

  • "man made lakes " man-made.

 Done

  • "one million surface-acres" needs conversion to metric.

 Done

  • Avoid squashing text between two images as you have done with the images of Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

It looks good to me.

  • You should use non-breaking spaces between numeric values and their units so they don't split over two lines.

Where in the article?

  • "are broken into two groups" wouldn't "divided" be more appropriate?

 Done

  • Flycatcher and Honey bee image captions need to lose their full stops.

 Done

  • "The Tulsa Revolution, playing in the American Indoor Soccer League is also in Tulsa" add a comma after League.

 Done

  • "State game bird" isn't linked - game needs something here because it's use in this case is not the obvious simple English "game".

 Done

  • You link bird and tree but not song. Any reason? I think it may have been linked earlier, but in this case it looks a little odd with pretty much everything else in the list linked.

 Done

  • Refs 1, 7, 10, 32, 38, 41 and 43 have ISO dates which should be made into more readable date formats.

 Done

  • All web references should have accessdate added.

 Done

  • Ref 4 is basically a mirror for English Wikipedia so should not be used as a reliable source.

Its from the US Census Bureau

  • Ref 42 you have publisher = PGA but it's a Forbes webpage.

First, thanks for the note on my talk. I replied there. Sorry if you were upset; that was certainly lowest on my priority list.

Thanks for your kind words. I hope I am not too Pollyanna-ish about this. I don't have the patience of a saint but I am prepared to give it a go as my patience has not been exhausted due to a lack of interaction with Ric. I am concerned that the community gives clear messages about acceptable behaviour that helps to build an encyclopaedia and I am not sure that to date we have been doing that to the best of our ability - I would like to try and lift the game. Thanks! :) I've been here for few months, and after seeing how much the project has been deteriorating, I decided I might as well ask for the tools to help out. Cassowary

Thanks for the comments, I have been able to deal with most of them. The only two I haven't fixed yet are the meanings of the Latin names, not as easy as I thought it might be and your concern about the layout. Peterdownunder (talk) 07:43, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you look at Ben Hall?

Hi, thanks for the effort you put in on the cassowary page. After I have worked on something for a long time I just don't see a lot of the things that need work. I would like to propose Ben Hall as another good article. It needs someone else to look at it with a clear view. Would you be able to make a few suggestions on the talkpage for me? Thanks, --Peterdownunder (talk) 02:09, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Standard asteroid physical characteristics

Sorry dude, an editor requested QD of this page you created under A3. I did the deletion because the editor was correct, there had been no simplification of the article. You may want to restore it and simplify it if you want to keep it. Cheers! :) fr33kman talk 01:35, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok

I just want to say that we may get under each others' skin every once in a while, but in general, I think that we do work somewhat well together, so I ask that you please forgive anything that I have done to you in the past, and I will do the same for you. Thanks, Razorflame 20:20, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I know what it can be like when people criticise your work. Hopefully we can give the PGA and PVGA processes the kick in the backside they really need. The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 21:21, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But on second thoughts, if you persist in maintaining that poor articles should be promoted, then I suggest we avoid working with one another as our ideas of what make Wikipedia better are clearly polarised. And I really will not forget your personal attack on me that you made here [4]. Very unbecoming. The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 18:40, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've worked on the article, can you review it again and let me know? Cheers :) fr33kman talk 23:06, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your help on this article. Since I'm new to the PGA/PVGA process (here of enWP), does the proposer also vote, or is this considered inappropriate (since they proposed it, and in my case wrote most of it)? fr33kman talk 23:46, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Hey there,

Could you have a look at Crich Tramway Village for me as a possible GA? You come highly recommended! ;)

Cheers,

Goblin 21:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey TRM,
I've had a good look at it and a few other editors have had a look at it too. I'm struggling with the simplification of the words that you highlighted, especially the ones at the end because of their technical nature, but I'm going to keep on trooping and if you can help it would be much appreciated! As for the technical terms i'm going to get some photographs of the dummy stud and of "plough gear" to illustrate it - would that do?
Hope you are still enjoying your trip!

Wikipedia:Solving Disputes Noticeboard/Razorflame and TRM

Just thought to let you know that I've opened up a new dispute resolution that involves both you and me. I would like your input there, as that would be very helpful towards facilitating a resolution to our dispute. Thanks, Razorflame 07:00, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Link as header is not correct. I have added my name as a helper to the page. I have read the background. Please can you both put forward a statement on how you would like this to be solved. ie, what you see as the resolution to this issue, and we can work it out from there. Thanks, Kennedy (talk) 09:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a problem or "dispute" with Razorflame so I don't see how I can participate in this process. I care for not much more than the advancement and improvement of this Wikipedia. RF seems to take my comments personally wherever they are and whatever they are about. I just want to get with correcting flawed processes and produce good and very good articles, thanks. The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 22:16, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

Sorry for all the trouble I have caused between us in the past. I am ready and willing to move past our differences to work together at this time. More and more so, I've come to realize that you are indeed correct about the votings being flawed and I am now willing to help to fix them. The only thing that I would like you to do doesn't have anything to do with GAs and VGAs. Could you lighten up a little? I just don't like seeing you be serious all the time. There are some times when you should just kick back and relax and deal with some vandalism or something :P. That's the only request I have. Otherwise, great work you've done here so far :P. Cheers, Razorflame 03:48, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I'm still in locations where I can't safely log in as admin and where regular net access outside my ipod is too expensive to go vandal hunting. I'm deadly serious about trying to fix things here, if not I wouldn't waste my time. Best, The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 03:56, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I understand that when you are trying to fix things, then it is alright to be serious, but being serious all the time isn't a good thing :D. Razorflame 03:58, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Once I have the luxury of ample time and free Internet access I'm sure my sense of humour will return....The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 04:07, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello TRM. I proposed some days ago the article Ernst Röhm for GA. Can you remember? Can you have a second look at this article? I fixed some thing, you mentioned in the voting. Can you say me what's to improve? Regards, Barras (talk) 21:25, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway, i've now gone to WP:PVGA with Crich Tramway Village as I felt it may be good enough, as did User:DefenceSupportParty, who gave it a line-by-line peer review.
