Usage of twinkle
Hey man,
Thank you for your recent block of 2600:1702:3650:9050:4DD5:1EC4:B7E4:42E1. That IP caused me a lot of issues. I just wanted to know if there was a way that I could use twinkle even though I am not yet auto confirmed because it would really help me with preventing vandalism but right now the only thing I can use it for is welcoming new users. Thanks --Examknow (lets chat! ) 17:31, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- You will be tomorrow. Vermont (talk) 19:01, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Nice block. I had been debating making that block. Couldn't decide if it was worth it for such a big range and possibilities of collateral. He has quieted down recently so I didn't end up doing it. But it is worth watching. -DJSasso (talk) 14:28, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
- Chenzw made a 6-month block of that range last year. I presume it's their usual broadband range. Considering the range's frequent activity on the English Wikipedia, which is only partially them, I didn't want to block for too long, so a month seemed good to me. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 14:31, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah its a pretty common range for them. -DJSasso (talk) 14:35, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
- FWIW, 3 months is my absolute maximum for any IP block (single or range). In theory, if (a) I know it's static, and/or (b) I have an unimpeachable reason for it, I might make an exception. But I don't think I've ever actually done so. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:09, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- DRV has caused global blocks longer than a year iirc. Some LTA's stick to their ranges and cause enough disruption to warrant it. Vermont (talk) 14:10, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- The standard limit is 1 year, however, for places like webhosts/open proxies often go to 3 years. For regular IPs we typically do following progression. 24/31, 48/72, 1 week, 2 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year. 1 year blocks on high issue IPs are very common. -DJSasso (talk) 14:40, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- I'll admit that neither of the two projects where I manage the blocking tends to have problems that intense. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:55, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Help me
Hi dear sir I am new User of Wikipedia I want your help please tell me how to simplify article created by another Wikipedia to simple Wikipedia¡ Consort-Plus (talk) 14:14, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Consort-Plus:Hello, do take a look at the links posted to your talk page. I'm happy to answer any doubts you have.--Cohaf (talk) 15:32, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
Alright
Well, first of all, I didn't post a link to my website as a way of advertising myself. It was a way of showing what I know. I apologize for the rude language but I was just surprised at why my page was deleted when I clearly didn't advertise, all I did was link to a project of mine. And that project shows what I know. But alright. Have a nice day and thanks for responding.

Um, what happened there? Nigos (talk · contribs) 03:00, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

- I've tried various tactics, including talking to him (don't waste your time). Reverting and ignoring him seems best. He harasses people pretty much all day every day until he gets arrested, then it stops for a while. Antandrus (talk) 01:54, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

question about rollback
hey man, thanks for giving me rollback. it's good to help fight against vandals. but i did notice something, i was trying to figure something out in the sandbox and i get this error. is it impossible to rollback your own edits? i see other people do it but it seems that i cannot. how do you rollback your own edits? can i get this for other stuff? by the text of the error it seems it's the rollback of edit conflict, but that can't be right, because the supposed edit is by me. Computer Fizz (talk) 06:02, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Computer Fizz: Sometimes I see that error if I've already rolled back a change and I try to do it again. Could this be a case like that? The sandbox history shows that you did roll back your change. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:37, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: First i reverted hazard-bot using rollback, then i reverted myself using twinkle, then i (tried to) revert myself using rollback which got me that error. Computer Fizz (talk) 17:50, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. Yeah, if you try to revert a revert it won't work because there's no net change, provided that you're both the revert and the edit before it. Since rollback reverts all edits by a given user, there's no edit to be done when you rollback two edits that, together, result to 0 change. I hope this helps. Vermont (talk) 17:51, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: First i reverted hazard-bot using rollback, then i reverted myself using twinkle, then i (tried to) revert myself using rollback which got me that error. Computer Fizz (talk) 17:50, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Computer Fizz: That seems to be Twinkle, not rollback. I tend to get a similar error when I double-click the rollback button and it tries to revert the edit twice at the same time, edit conflicting with myself. Best regards, Vermont (talk) 14:05, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- I am using rollback though. Or do you mean that twinkle is what's causing rollback to error? Computer Fizz (talk) 17:49, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- The image says you edit conflicted with yourself using Twinkle, not rollback. Twinkle works without rollback. Vermont (talk) 17:50, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, i thought you were saying that twinkle was what gave me that error. Computer Fizz (talk) 18:03, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Multiple things could cause that error. I was unaware you were testing with Twinkle/Rollback. Vermont (talk) 18:05, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Patrol
Thank you for promoting me to Patroller. I'm not 100% sure what it does (or really how to use it), but I'll try my best. Also, I'll be away from Wikipedia until late August, so don't be surprised by the lack of edits. ~Junedude433talk 15:04, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Okay. Basically, your edits are marked as patrolled, and you have the ability to patrol other edits/pages. Considering your article creations it will help reduce the patrolling backlog if your future creations are already marked as patrolled, so I granted the userright. - Lol. I add summaries with my rollback frequently; I have a nice script for it somewhere in my global.js. Haven't used undo since then as it negates the typical problem with rollback that you can't add summaries. Vermont (talk) 22:03, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
- how is that possible though? rollback is performed on the server side. Computer Fizz (talk) 23:10, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Carpet bombing
Yes, making a rangeblock which (accidentally) subsumes two irrelevant /18 ranges of Ukrainian LLC "lifecell" is carpet bombing. No problem doing it here, but I expect understanding of such things from a guy having steward aspirations. Why aren’t you happy with devolution of global locks for junk accounts? Show good understanding of how Internet works and you will be promoted to stewards and will do a responsible job. Whereas persons specialized on making thousands actions daily will lock socks without wearing steward’s cap. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 08:22, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- Your lack of conversing with people in a civil and non-hostile manner is not acceptable. (see WP:Be kind) I have warned you for your conduct on meta, and consider this a warning here. Onto your request, my block matched that made on multiple other projects, including enwiki, zh-yuewiki, meta (by 4 different admins, the third of whom was myself), and enwikt. Asking me to change it to a /17 is reasonable, and I will do so, however there was no need for you to resort to insults. I'm not sure how the devolution of global locks for junk accounts fits in here; it's entirely another issue. As to your baseless accusations of hat collecting, rest assured that you won't see me at SE2020. I have my area of volunteering and I'm happy with it. Hello, Vermont. I have had this Idea for a little bit of time. I was thinking that on all of the welcome templates, should be added at the begginning of the notice to catch the users attention a little bit more. If you think this is a good idea, let me know, and I will happily do that. Thanks. --Wyatt2049 | (Talk) or (Stalk) 19:45, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) what's your obsession with icons, dude? i agree that uw-vandalism2 should probably have an orange icon but i think this is a bit too far... Computer Fizz (talk) 19:54, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Computer Fizz: Icons make things easier to understand and see. And the suggested purple icon would, IMO, be a good idea. And I just love icons in general. It's just who I am. See my user talk page and read everything, and you will see why I obsess. Thanks. --Wyatt2049 | (Talk) or (Stalk) 21:17, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Can you confirm me?
I'm active on enwiki, where I am autoconfirmed and extended confirmed (verify). Recently, an incident involving User:Arduino Expert led me to this wiki, where they vandalized several pages. I wanted to report the user to WP:AIV, but am not able to use Twinkle here. Could you add me to the confirmed user group? - ZLEA T\C 01:15, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
- On this project, confirm can only be added by bureaucrats. I recommend making 10 edits rather than asking a crat to grant it. Best, Vermont (talk) 02:05, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
RfA
Hi. Would you be willing to evaluate my chances of passing an RfA, and/or consider nominating me? Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#blocking IP as a steward action highlighted the fact that there isn't always someone around (and yes, I know that will always be the case for a volunteer project) and I'd like to be able to help out. Let me know. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 23:01, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

- Community involvement. This may sound a bit hypocritical because this is sort of how I became an admin, but being solely involved in robotic anti-vandalism doesn't strike me as gaining community trust. Vermont (talk) 00:44, 23 September 2019 (UTC)

The matter of Jordan Dermott’s page: there are news articles of local media Tabloids if they’re good information, His agent has agreed to create the page to attract more attention to NFL ambassadors in The Netherlands, in fact, he is visiting there on the 15th of October to train with the semi professional team Leiden Lightning, he will be meeting NFL hall of famers and can even earn a contract, if this is not enough please let us know by email

Reply
Re: The Football Broadcast is ran by a team of 5 members, just like GridIron we operate and work on players and evaluate them, we have been notified of Jordan Dermott’s potential and realise brining attention to his name via Wikipedia will be profitable in terms of attention. We created the page so Mark Bright (an NFL ambassador) can find out more about him before he is flown out to The Netherlands on October 15th. We were going to alter his page and create more if ever needed to for other players to attract attention. We believed it would have been necessary to make this page as scouts can find him easily. It was also a huge push to start to grow American Football here in the UK, we believe he can be the face of the sport for young people here in this country, he attended NFL Academy trials and was branded as top 3 athletes Chris Lee (NFL Ambassador) has ever seen, including countries such as America, Netherlands, France and Germany.
We are NOT his agent however we’re granted permission to use his email as we have been in talks with him and he agrees this is a great way for us to branch his career and name out.
Thanks for the reply, George from TFB TheFootballBroadcast (talk) 10:12, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

- The API sandbox and help pages now show more clearly when API modules are marked as
internal
. API modules marked as internal were probably internal before. It was easier to miss. You should look for non-internal alternatives. [1]
Problems
- There is a translation tool we use on wikis with more than one language. For a few days it did not create pages for new languages when someone translated a page. The languages did not show in the language bar. This has been fixed. [2]
- The history and diffs can show wrong content. This is because of a cache problem. It will soon be fixed. [3]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 22 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 23 October. It will be on all wikis from 24 October (calendar).
- Reference Previews will be a beta feature on all Wikipedias and some Wikivoyages. It shows you a preview of the footnote when you hover over or click on the number. It has been a beta feature on German and Arabic Wikipedia since April.
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 23 October. See how to join.

Meta Wiki block
Hi Vermont, sorry to bother you here, but you blocked me on Meta, I am unable to write there. I presume that you acted in good faith (Quote: Users who make legal threats are typically blocked from editing while the threats are outstanding), although there is another recommendation (Quote: Rather than immediately blocking users who post apparent threats, administrators should first seek to clarify the user's intention if there is doubt), which I was expecting. OK, you can say that I made an legal threat, although that is correct only on the first sight. If you read carefully what I wrote, there is no legal threat what so ever, just a question to the other side if he wants to repeat all of this to the court (If you are sure of your accusations, you can send me your name, surname and data to my mail (or you can post it here), I will sue you for defamation and see you in court here in Croatia). Clearly, according to this sentence, the other side decide if and than. Anyhow, we can discuss this points without any results to the end of time, and there is no point in that, lets us resolve this situation. Final verdict of the situation is: In a view of phrasing of sentences and accusations, there are no foundations for any successful legal process, no matter what somebody wants, therefore, whole legal issue is resolved even before it is started. Following this information, can you please do as you promised (Quote: "As such, I'm imposing an indefinite block on your account until this legal issue is resolved.") Lasta (talk) 16:23, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Please appeal your block on your Meta-Wiki talk page, for transparency purposes. I will address your issues there. Best regards, Vermont (talk) 17:27, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Huggle/Config.yaml
Hi greetings, I created a yaml page Wikipedia:Huggle/Config.yaml in this wiki (copied from enwiki) since there is no one here. Because huggle check this while logging in. Is it a wrong thing? Is it correct? Kindly please help.--Path slopu (Talk) 16:16, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- Huggle works just fine at the moment. I've deleted the page. We already have a config page. Vermont (talk) 16:20, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry for the mistake. I'll ask for community consensus in future case. Thank you for the help. But when I tried to use it I couldn't. So I thought it was due to the lack of .yaml page. There was only an empty queue in huggle (pages were not loading). I tried to revert an edit in Huggle sandbox, but it couldn't. Then I used Twinkle. Please help.--Path slopu (Talk) 16:58, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) We don't use the same version as en.wiki so the things you expect to see from there won't necessarily be here. -DJSasso (talk) 18:39, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Problems
- The Linter extension helps you find technical errors in articles. It did not show new changes last week. This was because of an API problem. It is now working again. [19]

It's all very nice what you wrote me. But the email I used for Wikimedia work was shut down over TOS problems, and I've been threatened online elsewhere. Any thoughts? StevenJ81 (talk) 12:08, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- Assuming that Steriev caused the TOS-related shutdown, he's done this to me in the past. T&S helped me when that happened. If you know how, come onto IRC (Freenode) and pm me (Vermont). Vermont (talk) 12:10, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

Black garden ant
Hi Vermont, I was working on this page before dinner, came back and it was gone...deleted as long term abuse - I hope that is not me :( . I assume whoever started the page may have a problem, but should not have been deleted. Peterdownunder (talk) 12:11, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Peterdownunder. Extremely sorry about that. I've been using a new script lately, called "all-in-one", and thought it useful to test out on the Pakistan IP vandal's latest iteration. In short, it blocked the IP, reverted all edits, and deleted all created pages. I did not check every one of the 13 pages that was deleted, unfortunately, and that's negligence on my part. I'm going to talk to the person who created the script to see if we could input a feature that does not delete pages other users have since edited. If not, I'll check each page individually prior to deletion. Thank you, Vermont (talk) 13:57, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
