Welcome

Hello, Versus22, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia!

You may begin by reading these:

For some ideas of pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

You can edit any pages you want! Anything you write can be changed later. You can ask questions at Wikipedia:Simple talk. At the end of your messages on Talk pages, please sign your name by typing "~~~~" (four tildes)

Good luck and happy editing!fr33kman t - c 07:30, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

You can ask for rollback at WP:RFRB fr33kman t - c 07:37, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But I haven't reverted vandalism here, just on the regular English Wikipedia. Versus22 talk 07:38, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The criteria here state that if you have it on enWP you can be given it here without needing to fit the normal criteria. Right now is a very slow time for seWP but it does get fast later on. I'm watching RecentChanges and noticed you, and was bored so checked you out on enWP and you seem a decent user there, no blocks, good activity etc. I think they'd give it you. I do hope you decide to stay and edit also. We are a true community here (everyone knows everyone else!) and we could sure use the help. I noticed you dropped by in December also. fr33kman t - c 07:42, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you're looking for some editing to do, a common thing to get started is creating articles here that exist on enWP. You do it by doing the following steps (sorry it is a link to a blocked user, but I wrote the steps out for him and he didn't do anything with it and rather than write out the steps again, I thought I'd just give you the link.) Or you can do an advanced search on "External links" and change any you find to "Other websites". We use simple English here, so external links is not used; it's other websites instead. Read the How to write articles in simple English link above and that will give you an idea of what we do. :) fr33kman t - c 08:00, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Couple of other things

Since you obviously know what you're doing; some pages to help you find things: SimpleTalk is the Village Pump and most people watch it; WP:DELETE is of course the deletion policy, we call speedy delete quick delete here and use {{subst:qd|reason}} for the template; WP:AFD is where just about every else goes and the template for all article deletes is {{subst:afd}}; Vandal reports and other adminy stuff goes to WP:VIP and WP:ANI of course; and a list of other useful pages is Wikipedia:Useful. Good luck, welcome and now I'm off to bed :) (ps: figured you'd get RB) fr33kman t - c 08:53, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Goodnight! :-) Versus22 talk 09:01, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're very welcome, glad you're here. I'm thinking of working on the Twinkle templates (in my userspace first). You're welcome to help fr33kman t - c 20:09, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle

Hi there, most of Twinkle does not work very well here yet due to the lack of templates that we have (which Twinkle uses) and some XML issues. Only the warning and reverting modules work (but not successfully every time). You might want to consider enabling navigation popups in your preferences. Cheers, Chenzw  Talk  10:07, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not the same as the main English Wikipedia. :( Versus22 talk 10:09, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You mean popups? No, they are the same as they are on EN. It's just Twinkle. ;) Chenzw  Talk  10:11, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

For reverting the vandalism on my page. SimonKSK 20:03, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) Versus22 talk 20:04, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry...

...For for removing your warning. In my opinion, enough was enough and his editing needed to be prevented. Your warning was fine, but I blocked at the same time, so I decided to remove it. Good work today! TheAE talk 20:18, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:Fr33kmanTWTest

Hi, noticed you just warned on that page. Feel free to test Twinkle on it. The account belongs to me :-) fr33kman t - c 22:40, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've created a subpage User talk:Fr33kmanTWTest/Testpage1 if you want to use that so that we don't clobber each other :) fr33kman t - c 22:47, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good luck

I've been fighting him all night :) Good luck, very few admins around now, so it's just us! fr33kman t - c 05:28, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temper temper :-)

RE: ((grawp shut the hell up. ENwiki admin Bongwarrior is NOT behind this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) ) Temper temper :-) fr33kman t - c 06:32, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And we all know what grawp is up to these days, and I'm tired of it. Versus22 talk 06:41, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep! I figure he's about 12, maybe less ;) fr33kman t - c 06:53, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, no problem! :) 91.104.122.80 only had one edit, which was in an article that he/she vandalized. :) Versus22 talk 20:30, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
fr33kman has given you some milanos! Eat them before fr33kman does!

Archiving

I know that this is not that big of a deal, but when you archive your talk page, do you think that you could remove the stuff from your talk page and then place it into an archive instead of moving it? That messes around with people's watchlists :P. Cheers, Razorflame 07:36, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oops...Sorry about that. I'll remember that for next time! I'm just having a tough time right now. :( Versus22 talk 07:57, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
DOn't let them get you down dude! We've all had vandalism aimed at us. I tend to just laugh at the intellect behind the post; which is not much :) You're a valuable addition to this project. fr33kman talk 21:39, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VIP reports

Hi, thanks for your recent report. Could you remember to put the newer ones on top of the older ones? It helps us keep track of what's been done and what's not been done. Cheers :) fr33kman talk 22:59, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I usually use Twinkle for reporting. You want me to do it manually, or is there someway, somehow to make it post reports at the top? Versus22 talk 23:01, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually you bring up a good point we should probably discuss on WP:ST or WP:AN. I've noticed an increase of bottom additions to VIP lately and TW is probably responsible for them. Perhaps we should consider a bottom = newer approach, unless the TW script is easy to change? I'd make the community aware of the issues. Cheers for the explanation fr33kman talk 23:05, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome. However, I don't really plan on contributing that much on this Wiki, as I have a lot to do on the English Wikipedia after all. Download (talk) 23:30, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New

I'd like to add to the "Don't let them get you down" chorus. Anonymous vandalism from dynamic IPs is easy. Just don't give out personally identifying info to people you don't trust, and the most the vandals can do is vandalise your user and other pages, all of which can be cleaned up.

If you feel disgusted, try some other work you enjoy doing which is less likely to clash you with the vandals for awhile. Or just step back for a bit, like I've been doing, reading.

Wikipedia is a fantastic resource, a good and varied community (it's huge, and any of sufficient size have bad apples), but it's not worth distress. Toliar (talk) 23:33, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just wish we all actually edit constructively, instead of abusively. It's really disturbing to see those types of users doing that kind of stuff. It all started out with a page move. Then what could be people using en:4chan (or not), have done mass edits of terrible edit summaries to J.delanoy [1], then myself, and a couple others. Versus22 talk 00:00, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You've got to realise that you are a better person than they and just ignore stuff like that. They are trying to get you to quit because then their "work" becomes easier. em! :) fr33kman talk 00:07, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just a few comments

Hey V, I just wanted to say a couple of things. I know you are currently feeling, !bleah!', at the whole project (perhaps all of WMF) at the moment. I think that you should know a couple of things; 1) I'm happy to see you here. I know lot's of people from enWP but find many don't know me; I stay behind the scenes at enWP. You're not one of the people I follow over there, but I do know you from enWP and am glad that you have decided to visit us here. 2) I think you have the potential to be one of the top people here. You can help us in untold ways. Stay, please! :) fr33kman talk 03:47, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia

Haha, hi there Versus. :D FlyingToaster (talk) 22:52, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Versus

Thank you for your welcome! I was doing some changes to Bus on the English version of Wikipedia so wanted to see what this one looked like. Oh I forgot I did not check whether you have a link to the wuu version yet. I don't know what wuu is, it is Asian but I do not know it.

I am sure I will make lots of mistakes but I will try my best to keep things simple. I think the edit rate here is probably quite high when others can find a simpler way to say something.

(How am I doing so far?!). Can you tell me what the policy is for talk or user pages because sometimes I would find it easier to discuss things in full English but of course that is no good for readers who are using Simple English.

Thank you. Simon. SimonTrew (talk) 21:59, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your changes are fine to me (not vandalism or copy vio.). About the user page policy, read WP:UP. Basically, you're allowed to discuss things related to Wikipedia, not things unrelated to the project. Best, Versus22 talk 22:13, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I am editing Simple English WP:UP as a test run (in my sandbox) and maybe it will be useful, no doubt with changes. I know the general WP:UP policy what I meant more was if it is OK or not OK to use more complicated English outside the encyclopaedia itself? (In talk and so on) SimonTrew (talk) 02:57, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing actually with WP:UP (I assume from en.wikipedia.org) how much better it can sound when one cuts some of the big words. It is something I try to do in en.wikipedia.org too, simplify, simplify. I learnt Basic when I was eight (for fun I am a native English speaker but also speak some other languages) SimonTrew (talk) 02:59, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fastest user award!

Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

Undisputed reputation for being the fastest user ever witnessed by Tdxiang, you have been given a Barnstar!-- Tdxiang 02:46, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! :) Versus22 talk 03:00, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded, plus you're really nice too! :) fr33kman talk 03:02, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Whoopsie! A silly error on my part, the message was gone, forgot to add the "1=" in the template!-- Tdxiang 03:06, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah... It's okay. I fixed it! :) Versus22 talk 03:10, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:VTPG Sandbox

  • Oh yes, but I find it strange why VTPG allows this IP to edit his sandbox... unless they're the same user or have some relation to each other. Come to think of it... But that's just my guess, I'm not too worried by it though.-- Tdxiang 03:15, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The only thing that would make me worry is for bad words (swearing). Other than that, the IP's editing in there doesn't worry me at all. Best! :) Versus22 talk 03:19, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just doing a little research I think that these users (if they are seperate) may have been treated by us a little harshly. I for one warned VTPG about an edit that I thought was vandalism at the time but on reflection I was wrong and am going to say so on their talk page. I also think that the anon is not trying to harm the project and feel that one of us should reach out to them; I'm willing to do this also. We may have jumped on this/these guy(s) a bit hard. Comments? fr33kman talk 03:36, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I didn't find this edit really vandalism. Although, that was back in February, I think we should tone it down a bit, and we all do make mistakes sometimes as well! :) Versus22 talk 03:45, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it was bitey of me and was so long ago that I've no idea what was going through my mind. But at least it was caught and dealt with. Cheers fr33kman talk 03:49, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have spoken to the IP nicely, I feel that there's no need to cause a stir-up in any case.--! Tdxiang 03:46, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I think we can all sometimes get blinkers on when we see anons. Agree it should now be left alone :) fr33kman talk 03:49, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
