Your class project[change source]

Might be a good idea to announce it on WP:Simple talk so everyone knows about it. Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:29, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Style issues[change source]

Hello, Visionovervisibility. Have you covered Wikipedia's style requirements with your students? Our manual of style explains some things that are required in articles here. A couple of specific things I see that are not being followed are:

  • When mentioning a person by name, the first time the name is mentioned it should be the person's full name. After that, it should be just the surname.
  • In headings, usually only the first word should be capitalized. Other words can be capitalized if they are proper nouns. For example, a correct heading would be "Early life", not "Early Life".
  • The first time an article's topic is mentioned, it should be in bold characters. You get that by putting three apostrophes before the topic and three after the topic, like this: '''Alexander Graham Bell'''.

One other thing is that articles need references. This is especially important with articles about living people, because there can be legal issues when writing about them. I know the articles are still being worked on, but it would be very helpful if you could add references right away to the articles about living people.

Thanks, and let us know if you need more information. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:26, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Style Issues[change source]

Thanks for the tips. I myself am still learning the style guides of Wikipedia so your comments about headings and handling names is helpful. I will pass along those tips to the students. We do have a reference for each of the individuals. These are novice writers so we are still working on extracting the most notable information form the biographies. We want the students to have the experience of adding the reference, so our plan is to have them add the references in the next couple of weeks (we only meet once per week). Our last session is in early May. Whatever the students don't finish, I will clean up the entries with references, etc. before removing the Class project banner.

OK, that should work. When you get ready to remove the banner, feel free to ask if you'd like someone more knowledgeable in Wikipedia's requirements to give the articles a final check -- not from the writing standpoint, but from a Wikipedia standpoint.

How long does your class run? --Auntof6 (talk) 22:01, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The last session is May 19 at which time the students will be showing their entries to their parents and friends. I will definitely let you know when we are done so that you (or someone you can ask) can review them for me before I remove the banner. Visionovervisibility (talk) 01:44, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The page you wrote, John Lee Love, has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. Zaxxon0 (talk) 22:46, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
