English Wikipedia[change source]

Stop moving templates from the English Wikipedia without attributing, as you did on Template:Convert/xx. Take a look at WP:CW. Cheers. --Diego Grez let's talk 15:01, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would be advisable if you contacted an admin to import these pages. Thanks for the work though. :) Pmlineditor  15:02, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Wikid77. An article you created Template:In5, has been automatically tagged for deletion because it looks like a test page. Please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. If you think there has been an error please feel free to remove the tag and leave a message here explaining what happened. Thank you. --GoblinBot4 (talk) 19:00, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit requests.[change source]

Hello there, I was just going through the requests you had made. Some of them seem to work without issue, but others do not have matching expected and current results after the update was added. Before going any further, I would like you to see if any of these results were expected, or if changes to the code are needed. Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 00:08, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I went through the requests again, and found more errors. If time permits, please take a look. Thanks!--Gordonrox24 | Talk 21:33, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there Wikid77. I glanced at this and realized that you are a template-holic. I'd like you to know that Wikipedia appreciates your presence, as templates are important tools.  Hazard-SJ Talk 05:03, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello, and thanks for the note. I think we need additional guidelines to recommend 2 dual templates for each purpose, because when only 1 template is available for a task, it tends to become locked down, while awaiting a miraculous WP:Consensus to allow new features to be added. Fortunately, here, we have dual templates for both Height & Convert:
  • {Height|m=1.62} → 1.62 m (5 ft 4 in)
  • {convert|1.62|m} → 1.62 metres (5 ft 4 in)
For other templates, I have tried merely discussing to allow 1 alternate template, but too many people fear a 2nd template is the beginning of "endless forks" and some of my improved enwiki templates have been deleted (or sandboxed) at TfD. This is a danger of an "ageing bureaucracy": innovations come quickly in the early years, but later waiting on group-approvals stifles further progress, requiring years (of continual consensus discussions) for what formerly happened in days (or hours). When a 2nd template needs to use a vastly different design, then that is when the approvals can drag into years, even though it might seem impossible that a 3-day change could require years of approval. Anyway, if you need any template coding, let me know. -Wikid77 (talk) 05:29, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure.  Hazard-SJ Talk 05:42, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New articles[change source]

Hi, I've noticed that you've been simplifying articles from en, but I'd like to remind you to change External links -> Other websites and make sure the categories you're using are existent. Thanks and keep up the good work. Exert 20:39, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This editor is an Apprentice Editor and has the right to show this Wikipedia Picture Book.

Thanks for your contributions on Simple, especially on templates which I use but fail to understand. You have earned a picture book. Peterdownunder (talk) 06:20, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quick deletion of Template:R from alternate spelling[change source]

The page you wrote, Template:R from alternate spelling, has been selected for quick deletion. This is because the page was deprecated or replaced by a newer template and are completely unused and not linked to. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. --Addihockey10 e-mail 18:51, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RfD nomination of Template:Latinsect[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Template:Latinsect, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2013/Template:Latinsect and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 08:54, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

December 2016[change source]

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Significant figures" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 09:10, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Since you put a long diatribe in your edit summary, I'll comment as follows:
  1. The above deletion was perfectly correct and justified by our guidelines.
  2. The present version of this page is satisfactory as being simplified according to our guidelines.
  3. It is not right to use edit summaries to do other than summarise what you have done. Macdonald-ross (talk) 11:45, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I've noticed many of your articles are close-translations of enwiki, and as such they must be attributed. Please use these tags on related pages. Thanks, Vermont (talk) 02:51, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will work on creating those talk-pages. -Wikid77 (talk) 04:41, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-spaced cite bars[change source]

Hi there Wikid77. I noticed some of your recent edits and I've been wondering if the pre-spaced cite bar changes are particularly necessary. Is there a reason behind these changes? Hiàn (talk) 02:59, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, as the world quickly changes, from using wide desktop screens, to using more narrow handheld devices, then it becomes easier to read or update cite parameters which have whitespace separation. I've edited many hundreds of pages with cite errors and noticed how users can get confused with wall-of-text, run-on cites and add duplicate parameters to change values, such as putting 2 date parameters while unaware a prior date was buried in the run-on cite text. For example, the use of pre-spaced names can avoid seeing a wrapped line begin "st4=John" rather than seeing "|first4=" or "|last4=John".

On the other hand, the use of excessive whitespace as post-spaced bars, " | date=" is seen in many errors where the bar/pipe later gets omitted, such as "| work=Nature year=2014" and then users wonder why the year does not format. In fact, I've noted some cite parameters deliberately written twice where a user did not see the coding error, but had added a 2nd "|year=2014" to get "(2014)" to appear in the formatted cite.

To make matters worse, some URLs require embedded bars "|" such as "|url=http...|name=Doe|code=Rt|62|N|3|2|x" and in such cases it really helps to pre-space the cite bars when a user inserts URL bars.

However the major concern, overall, is readability with the newer handheld devices which are rapidly becoming Wikipedia's most-common user device. While the wp:VE visual screen editor has been an interesting attempt, the smaller handhelds have made wikitext source editing even more popular as a user choice. -Wikid77 (talk) 10:48, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your explanation - I was just curious. Hiàn (talk) 00:45, 14 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Passover Seder[change source]

Hi, Wikid77. Thanks for creating an article about the Passover Seder. Unfortunately, the article was not simplified enough from the enwiki article. Because of that, I have moved it to your userspace (User:Wikid77/Passover Seder) so that you can work on it more. The main issues I see are complex words and sentence structure. Another is that you didn't change the categories to ones that we have here. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:50, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please check.your edit[change source]

Hi, Wikid77. Please check your edit to Marley Shelton. It introduced a duplicate template parameter. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:23, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

...for your work updating citation template syntax, etc. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 04:26, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit to[change source]

This edit that you made to Valvatida introduced some syntax errors. It changed |accessdate=2014-01-20 to |id= Access date 2014-01-20 which resulted in duplicate id= parameters and left an invalid, or at least nonstandard, access date parameter. I have fixed it by copying the citation from enwiki. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:49, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK, good idea. Thank you for that. -Wikid77 (talk) 21:10, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Another edit issue[change source]

Look at this edit you made to List of Hot 100 number-one singles of the 1990s (U.S.). It created a syntax issue because you added an URL parameter when there was already one there. You can check for duplicate parameters either by looking at the rest of the parameters in the template, or by previewing the page after you make the change (it will tell you what the duplicate parameter is). --Auntof6 (talk) 05:18, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RfD nomination of Template:Taxobox/showtaxon[change source]
