Walter Skocik (born September 6, 1940 in Schwechat or Wienerherberg) is a former Austrian football player and coach.

Skocik began his career as a midfielder at SK Rapid Wien . There he had his greatest success. He made 222 competitive appearances for the club in 11 years, scoring 40 goals. He won four Austrian championships with Rapid (1960, 1964, 1967, and 1968) and three Austrian Cups (1961, 1968, and 1969). He also played 28 European Cup matches for Rapid, scoring two goals. In 1969, he moved to SV Wattens and then to SSW Innsbruck. 1973 Skocik moved to Switzerland as playing coach for FC Fribourg. 1974 he joined Schwarz- Weiß Bregenz. There he was also playing coach.

International

From 1960 to 1967 he played 14 matches for the Austrian national football team. His first match was in a 4-1 win versus Scotland on 29 May 1960. His last match was a draw versus Greece on 5 November 1967. [1]

Manager career

In 1979 he became coach of SK Rapid Wien. IN Austria he also coached Wiener Sport-Club, FC Wacker Innsbruck, LASK, VSE St.Pölten and Austria Wien.In the 1982/83 season, he managed UD Las Palmas. He also was coach in Greece. In the 1984/85 season, he won the Greek championship with PAOK.
