Watches of the night

The watches of the night or night watches, originally refers to the ancient division of the nighttime into specific, timed periods for military guards or prayer vigils.^[2]

First watch: from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Second watch: from 9:00 PM to midnight.
Third watch: from midnight to 3:00 AM.
Fourth watch: from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
