I-on[change source]

I-on (talk · contribs) I want to make sure I'm pleasing everybody with my edits. I would love to become an admin, so I would like to see how I'm doing at getting to that goal. Ian ♠♣♦♥ McCarty 14:17, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • You are a very civil, hardworking, friendly, and efficient user, and great at vandal fighting! The only improvements I can think of at present is that maybe you shouldn't do lots of minor edits (tho' those are really helpful, too), but to do longer quality edits with at least one paragraph per edit. Try reading previous RFAs to get an idea of what the community generally requires from admins, and actively work on articles. You have a percentage of a little over 50% on articles right now: that's good, just try to work on it a little more. Improve articles you already made a lot of times, try to contribute a lot to good articles or make one yourself, and it might be a good idea to wait a little. No one can have a doubt of your merit till now, but people usually choose admins after they have been on Simple Wikipedia for, like, at least three months. It is not the fashion to say so, but I can scarcely think of anything else to criticize you about, so I'll come back with fresh ideas when I can! I hope you can become an admin someday, God bless! • I don't think you're ready yet, for an admin, even after your many efforts and good natured help-out in seWP, and your gallant vandal-fighting... You are generally good-humored, and kind, but the articles you made are mostly all...stubs. I don't think you should make too much stubs, try to improve them more, like Esther said above, and most importantly, just contribute a bit more. Also, I think you should assume more better faith (even though you were quite wonderful to me, giving me that great, megawatt smile :P), especially after seeing your conversation with Mella Mouse, sorry. I know, certainly I would support you in a RFA (if you ever will have one), but other people might think you were assuming bad faith with the Mouse, even though she was much more impertinent than you. Also, I'm not sure you should use words like "stupid", as you did when you rewarded Eitherway a barnstar, you said, "thanks for helping with that stupid list". Of course, I like it, it sounds boyish and cool, but other people may think it not civil. But other than that, I admire you very much, and think you're just born to be an admin! :) Just improve a few things, and you're perfect. Belle (talk) 04:54, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I tried my best with User:Mella Mouse to be stern. I guess maybe a little to much. I need more practice. That was the first time I had to deal with someone like that, so I'm not to skilled at it yet. I'll keep what you said in mind and try to be better next time :-)
Also about the barnstar and the use of the word "stupid." To be honest, I has trying to be funny and good-humored about the whole thing. I hope nobody takes it the wrong way. I am a very sarcastic person who tries to be funny. Of course, not all people get sarcasm and may get offended like how you said. Anyway, I thank you and your sister much for your time in reviewing my edits and helping me be a better wikipedian. Ian ♠♣♦♥ McCarty 14:32, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are indeed two of the most amusing people I have ever seen! (That is, I've never seen I-on, but...) It makes me laugh to read my bel esprit Belinda's remarks, and I-on's equally witty (?) remarks...:P But I don't think you have to worry about the word "stupid" since using it against yourself will probably be seen as everybody as simply another mark of your modesty. Indeed, I suppose you're right, Esther :)--I enjoy being witty. Of course, being stern to immature babies like the Mouse is good, but saying "don't you dare try to vandalize my page or userspace because I have some of the most powerful Anti-vandalize tools to revert it with" isn't exactly being nice to newcomers--especially because the Mouse wasn't exactly a vandal, and she was a bit hurt with that. But mostly, you're almost perfect :P. Just correct some of your stubs, make more big edits instead of minor edits, and try to earn alot of barnstars! God bless, Belle (talk) 03:10, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • You are overall a good user; however there are some ways you can improve. First, this was in no way vandalism; you should check enwp/google before tagging something as Vandalism/Hoax unless it is full of swear words etc. Secondly, a high percentage of your edits are in your userspace; while I can ignore the sandbox edits, I really don't see why you need to change your status 100+ times or need to make 100+ edits to your userpage. While I appreciate your creation of stubs, you can help out at here, here or here after reviewing the criteria. See some P(V)GAs and read the comments by other users before saying that an article is good or bad. Also, I see a lack of participation in the project (Wikipedia) space: you have 12 edits to VIP which isn't bad; however, you have hardly any participation in RfD, Simple Talk or AN where I expect participation from prospective admins. On the other hand, you have done pretty good antivandal work and creating 105 articles withing two months is commendable. Keep up the good work, increase your Wikipedia space percentage, and write a (V)GA and I'm sure you will become an admin. Pmlineditor  08:36, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep up with patrolling new changes and making the few tweaks and I think you'll do fine. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:30, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Questions

  1. Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
I've expanded many articles such as Utah, Maine, Franklin Pierce, and Blue Jay all of witch were only a few sentences before I started working on them.
  2. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I don't think I've been in any. If I will be in the future, I will try to keep my good humor and not get to mad about it.
