From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello, I didn't make much changes here but I know the rollback rules very well. Regards, Lionel Cristiano (talk) 09:09, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not done We only grant rollback after a period of constant activity here. Just to make sure you are familiar with all the local policies as some of them might seem different from other wikis.--BRP ever 11:43, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From: WP:ROLLBACK If you have rollback elsewhere, or admin rights elsewhere, the threshold for meeting this requirement is lower. So if you are already a rollbacker or admin on another Wikimedia Foundation project, please mention it in your request and it will be taken into consideration. Lionel Cristiano (talk) 12:05, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have taken that into consideration when I declined. The project you are rollbacker on are much different from this one. Also, the active blocks on two wikis makes it hard for me to grant this right without months of active involvement in this project.-- BRP ever 12:14, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I will continue my contributions. Banned users seeking a return are advised to make significant and useful contributions to other WMF projects. I'm doing this. Regards, Lionel Cristiano (talk) 12:40, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I’d like to request rollback rights to better combat vandalism. I primarily patrol history-related pages and have been actively reverting vandalism. I understand vandalism and always ensure my reverts are appropriate. I'm well aware of WP:3RR and use rollback responsibly. I'm also already autoconfirmed here. Additionally, I’m familiar with warning levels. Having rollback rights would allow me to revert vandalism more efficiently. Shakib ul hassan talk! 17:00, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mihira Bhoja is an example of my anti-vandalism efforts, where I have dealt with caste-based POV pushers. Shakib ul hassan talk! 17:02, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am seeing limited experience in anti-vandalism patrol. What is your understanding of when rollback is appropriate for use? Griff (talk) 17:14, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response. I understand rollback is meant for obvious vandalism and not for good-faith changes. I always check the context before reverting to avoid mistakes. I’ve dealt with persistent vandalism, especially on Mihira Bhoja, where caste-based POV pushing was common. I will make sure to continue contributing to Wikipedia faithfully and responsibly. Shakib ul hassan talk! 17:34, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - Thanks for the response Shakib. I appreciate all the work you do across the project. At this time, I would like to see a little more experience in vandalism reversion (perhaps through Twinkle) and user warning before granting the right. I personally avoid using rollback when reverting POV pushing because it allows me to clearly identify why I am reverting, as sometimes the issues are not obvious. Once you feel like you have a bit more experience, feel free to reach out to me directly or here and I will be happy to review again. Griff (talk) 02:05, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Griff, for your quick response! I will work on gaining more experience in handling vandalism and hope you'll consider reviewing my request again in the future. Shakib ul hassan talk! 12:39, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I would like to request rollback rights to help in fighting vandalism more efficiently. I have experience in identifying and reverting vandalism and have been actively contributing to maintaining Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.I already have rollback rights on English Wikipedia, Hindi Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. I regularly use Twinkle, Huggle, RedWarn, and SWViewer to detect and revert vandalism quickly. I understand that rollback should only be used for clear cases of vandalism or disruptive edits, not for content disputes.Having rollback rights here will allow me to revert bad edits more efficiently and contribute to keeping Wikipedia clean. I will use rollback responsibly and in line with Wikipedia’s policies. Thank you for considering my request!→TypeInfo (talk) 18:18, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I looked through your contributions and found this. Do you mind explaining this revert? If you don't want to I wont mind.- FusionSub (Talk page) (Contributions) 18:33, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for checking. I made a mistake while looking at that edit, and when I tried to revert it again, I saw that someone else had already fixed it. I’ll be more careful in the future to avoid such errors. →TypeInfo (talk) 18:52, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am so sorry for requesting again, but I would like to have rollback, I am very well understandable with the guidelines, and I have been helping out on the wiki and helping out in reverting vandalism, I have made some mistakes like forgetting to warn users who you revert or made a simple comment mistake, but I am learning very quickly to not do those mistakes again. I have gotten a lot more active on wiki than I was before, I have gotten used to the WP:ONE STRIKE rule and how to revert vandalism properly, also I use Twinkle and RedWarn/Ultraviolet to revert vandalism and warn users. Thank you for your consideration of my request. (Again) 𝓐𝓭𝓮𝓵𝓪𝓲𝓭𝓮 (𝓽𝓪𝓵𝓴𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓫𝓼) 14:34, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adelaide! A few questions:
  • What are examples of when undo should be used instead of rollback?
  • Is rollback appropriate for use in an edit war? If so, in which situations?
  • In comparing rollback tools, when would you use the built-in rollback instead of Twinkle?
  • How should users be warned? Are there times where warnings are not appropriate?

Best, Griff (talk) 19:34, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Griff! Here is what I think that I should do when using rollback.

A: When a single bad edit has made by a user, but a bunch of good edits were made by the same user and they user has claimed to made a mistake, you can undo it instead of using rollback, because rollback reverts all the edits while undo only reverts a single edit.

B: (Answer to question 2) No it is not appropriate to use rollback in those situations, it is best to report it on the Administrators Noticeboard instead and let an admin handle it.

C: (Answer to question 3) I would use both but rollback lets you do more things than Twinkle does.

D: (Answer to question 4) Users should be warned when they vandalize, made a bad page, edit war, etc. But the 4im warnings are only giving out to a user if they make a legal threat to Wikipedia or attack other editors. When warnings are not appropriate is when the user makes a good edit, but when the user makes a mistake and that is totally okay to make a mistake, just roll it back as good faith, but it is a better to just fix it yourself. I hope this answers your questions thanks! 𝓐𝓭𝓮𝓵𝓪𝓲𝓭𝓮 (𝓽𝓪𝓵𝓴𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓫𝓼) 00:01, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi guys, I am back for my second rollback request. I have around 4,000 edits already in Simple English Wikipedia and I’m editing Wikipedia for about 5 to 6 months. I would like to get rollback because I will try to revert vandalism or bad faith edits and I will try to be careful not to revert good faith edits by accident. Thanks guys. thetree284 (talk) 23:48, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - Hi thetree, I do not see that you have a lot of experience in reverting vandalism or need for the rollback tool. Can you come back once you have been using twinkle or undo to revert vandalism for a while? Thanks, Griff (talk) 13:50, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I will try to revert vandalism and once I revert enough vandalism, I will reply to you. See you soon! thetree284 (talk) 01:05, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And do not forget that I have to revert at least 20 edits by using undo or twinkle. And right now I have revert two vandalism edits. Once I reverted 20 vandalism edits, I will reply back to get my rollback. Thanks, thetree284 (talk) 23:58, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback makes it easier to revert vandalism. I already have the flag on other wikis, so I’m familiar with how it works. Regards, Jet Pilot (talk) 03:09, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I'd like to see a longer history of need but you've been here for more than the minimum times and most of your edits are undoing Vandalism so I'd guess you've shown a need but I'd prefer not to grant the flag right now but have no objections to another admin reviewing and granting it. In the meantime I'd suggest using twinkle for now. fr33kman 17:31, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Why should it be so hard for someone to get rollback if they want it? It's not a trophy someone needs to work for. It should be given to anybody who has shown they will use it correctly. I understand reluctance if someone is blocked on another wiki, or there is doubt about their good faith or knowledge of Simple English Wikipedia guidelines, but that isn't the case here. TagUser (talk) 19:57, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In this case I chose not to grant it due to the low number of total edits (ie: less than 250). The user has been around long enough and most edits are anti-vandalism but the total number of edits is too low for my personal taste. That's why I declined but gave the rider that I'd not object if another admin wanted to grant the flag. fr33kman 04:05, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Because rollback can be abused and actually has quite a subtle use case (obvious vandalism, not good faith edits) it can be quite controversial. We do recommend that users who have the permission are both competent to use it correctly and have the usecase to weild it.
It's also not really all that much of a boon over using Twinkle. It's not really that much of an ask to have a decent history of reverting changes before getting the tool that makes it faster. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 20:18, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, however I do think it's pretty clear that someone like Jet Pilot would use it correctly, as they already have it on English and Spanish Wikipedias. On the other hand, Raayaan, who received rollback above, is blocked on English Wikipedia for competence issues. TagUser (talk) 20:21, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I’m aware that my edit count isn’t very impressive. Personally, I try to focus more on quality than quantity. While I’m not very active here yet, I have no problem waiting until I gain more experience and edits before submitting a new request. Regards, Jet Pilot (talk) 21:49, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TagUser Sorry for the ping, but I think if someone is blocked on another Wikipedia, it doesn't mean we can object to granting rollback right on Simple-wiki. When a user clearly demonstrates that he is contributing to Simple-wiki with full responsibility and following all guidelines. I think very soon, with some more edits and spending a little more time patrolling RC Jet Pilot, will succeed in getting Rollback right. Bensebgli (Talk) 05:43, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Simple English Wikipedia's current vandal-fighting force is strong but not strong enough. I've done the math: during hours when most people are active, we revert vandalism within a minute on average, whereas during the wee hours (in places with the most editors, at least), dozens of harmful changes go unnoticed or are reverted much later. This can add up, causing hidden falsities to end up on pages where they take may take up to weeks, months, or even years to get removed. See .
This is where I come in. As you can tell by looking at my contributions, I have edited Simple English Wikipedia for nearly a year and have over 1500 edits. I have had months of anti-vandalism practice with Twinkle and userscripts emulating rollback; I know when and when not to rollback and why. It is engraved in my anti-vandalism philosophy that you should not simply revert unencyclopedic edits; you should always notify the perpetator of their wrongdoing, since it can help convince them to switch to constructive editing. Furthermore, I often edit at times when others aren't, so I can manage the wiki and stop the phenomenon detailed in the previous paragraph.
If you're looking for well-rounded editors, I also have improved and started many articles, and regularly perform copyedits, add templates and categories, and expand stubs. I hope I'm qualified to possess the rollback permission. If not, I would like to know why so I can improve and become a better editor. 🪐 SolarX 🪐 03:15, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I would like to request rollbacker rights on Simple English Wikipedia. I already have rollback rights on the English Wikipedia and on Wikidata, which shows that I am familiar with the rollback system and how to use it responsibly. I believe these rights will help me to quickly fix vandalism and keep the Simple English Wikipedia clean and accurate.

Thank you for considering my request. Best regards, Igor123121 (talk) 19:20, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now, given the fact you only started reverting on this wiki just over a week ago. Please come back in a couple of weeks, with a little more experience too, and this likely won't be an issue, given the fact you hold rollback on a couple of other wikis. I hereby request rollbacker rights. I am experienced in counter-vandalism on dewiki since 06/2024 and on enwiki since 07/2025. Occasionally, I deal with x-wiki-vandalism. I am rollbacker on dewiki, enwiki, commons and temporary on wikidata and would like to use that right to encounter vandalism here. Thanks in advance --NDG (talk) 07:21, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator observation) @NDG: You seem to be blocked on your home wiki, de, quite recently, mind explaining? (sorry for my oversight, it was a requested block) --Cactus🌵 hi 10:24, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also most of your reverts come from the day you were requesting this, and mainly reverting one user. Cactus🌵 hi 10:26, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Since you have already commented on my request for rights in enwiki as a non-administrator, I do indeed have to check your queries. Here in this smaller wiki, there are different thresholds for granting rights, or do you see it differently? I don't need to discuss the voluntary block I requested on dewiki here, do I? Even though you have already attracted attention on dewiki with very problematic reverts and quick deletion requests, I would never question that in a request from you in a sister project in another language as a non-admin. NDG (talk) 10:39, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't want to answer my questions, go ahead. Cactus🌵 hi 10:41, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well there is just one single question. And I do not understand why this is relevant here. Would you please explain this? NDG (talk) 10:43, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
just noting you have few/to little reverts here, so I am just asking if you plan to stay. Cactus🌵 hi 10:44, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It would be nice if you wouldn't revert your question, as my answers are now completely out of context. I have made over 12000 edits to Wikimedia projects, my account has been active for 20 years, and I have been regularly active in several projects for the past year and a half. If there are any specific concerns, I would be happy to address them here. In any case, your last comment on one of my requests ultimately resulted in the granting of rights. Would you like me to reduce my X-wiki activities, or what is the problem? NDG (talk) 10:51, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I meant increase you contribution here? Cactus🌵 hi 10:53, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
While we are discussing this, someone is spamming this project. We actually have enough to do at the moment, as no admin seems to be active. If there are concerns that I may misuse my rights, please just say so, otherwise let's get back to work. NDG (talk) 10:56, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Some admins should be active soon (maybe), no concerns. Cactus🌵 hi 10:57, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
