GOUGH WHITLAM.

The content is inaccurate. Gough Whitlam's Labour government was dismissed because as it would not accept changes to the Budget to be ratified by the Senate, it tried in-stead to issue vouchers in lieu of checks and asked the banks* to honor them. This was unconstitutional and therefore the Governor General (appointed by the government and a member of the Labor Party) had no choice, but to dismiss the government. The Labour Party's left wing was dominant at that time and created the incident during the attempt to nationalize banks*. Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, by accepting the dismissal, probably saved Australia. The Labor Party lost subsequent elections and the left wing lost its dominance.
