William Lassell (June 18, 1799 – October 5, 1880) was a British astronomer, born in Bolton, Lancashire, England. He died in Maidenhead in 1880. He is well known as discoverer of Triton, the largest moon of Neptune, and for his improvements to the reflecting telescope.
