Zaurbek Dzanagov

Zaurbek Chermenovich Dzanagov (December 2, 1955 , Vladikavkaz , USSR - September 7, 2022) was a Soviet and Russian sculptor.
He was best known for the Tree of Sorrow monument, made with Alan Kornaev, to the victims of the terrorist act that occurred on September 1-3, 2004 in the building of school No. 1 in Beslan ( North Ossetia-Alania ).
He is an Honored Sculptor of the Republic of North Ossetia Alania (since 1995), laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of culture ( 2006 ), and a member of the Union of Artists of Russia (since 1982).
He belongs to the Moscow School of Sculpture. In his work, he refers to the traditional Ossetian designs. He uses various materials in his work: wood, stone, bronze, and ceramics. He considers the topics related to spirituality and the inner world of man to be the closest to him, using easel, park and monumental sculptures.
