Trivago
Trivago (stylized as trivago) is a Dutch company specializing in metasearch engine focusing on hotels. The company is incorporated in the Netherlands.[1]

The company was founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in January 2005. The team developed Germany's first hotel search engine.
Initially, Trivago received €1 million from investors, including the Samwer brothers, Florian Heinemann, and Christian Vollmann. In 2007, Trivago received US$1.14 million in Series B funding from the British company HOWZAT media LLP. In December 2010, Trivago sold a quarter of the company for US$52.86 million to a US investment fund, Insight Venture Partners.
In 2013 Expedia, an American travel company, bought a stake in Trivago for $632 million.[2]
In December 2014, Trivago bought mobile app product and development company Rheinfabrik.
In 2015, Trivago reported more than US$500 million in revenue.[3]
In March 2016, Trivago bought Cloud-PMS company Base7booking.
On December 16, 2016, Trivago became publicly traded on the NASDAQ exchange under the ticker symbol TRVG.[4]
In March 2020, after the pandemic COVID-19, sales had fallen by 95% compared to the previous year.[5]
Now Trivago is headquartered in Düsseldorf. In 2013, Trivago opened offices in Leipzig and Palma de Mallorca. There are also offices in Amsterdam and Shanghai.

Booking platforms, hoteliers and other providers list rates and advertise on the Trivago site, paying for the clicks received from Trivago users.[6]

Trivago focuses on online marketing, public relations and brand marketing (TV).[7] The company has its own ad brands - The "Trivago guy" and The "Trivago girl".
