Asbestosis

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asbestosis is a disease of the lungs caused by inhaling fibers of asbestos. It is generally an occupational disease and most people with asbestosis reporting having had contact with asbestos, but usually this is doubtful. However, asbestos could affect people up to 40 years later, after exposure.

It is not to be confused with mesothelioma, a cancer of the lungs which is also caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. Asbestosis has been the subject of many lawsuits, and many lawyers specialize in asbestosis and mesothelioma. Compensation is available in the UK if exposure occurred in the country.
