Discussion means talking about something with other people.
Discussions can vary in their setting, and in their purpose. A conversation between three friends about a football match is a discussion. It stops whenever they want, and may or may not come to any conclusions. A talk between two people at work to decide which product to buy is a discussion followed by a decision. It stops when they decide what to do.
Discussions do not have to happen in person, they can happen over the telephone or on the Internet. Wikipedia uses discussion ("talk" pages) so that people can decide on how the article should be written.
