English: Mera Hou Chongba is a cultural festival of solidarity in Manipur. It's also known as Mera Waa Yungba, which translates to "bamboo poll erection in Mera". The festival is celebrated by all indigenous ethnic groups in Manipur, including the Meitei people and Naga tribes.
During the festival, lamps are lit on top of erected bamboo poles. The lighting of the lamps signals the safety of the people.
The festival was first celebrated in the presence of the God King, Nongda Lairen Pakhangba, in the first century. It's been celebrated since time immemorial.
