Il vocabolario ebbe un successo mai registrato per le precedenti edizioni. Il primo volume si apre con una dedicatoria finalmente a uno dei Medici, il granduca Gian Gastone, da parte di Alamanno Salviati e con una prefazione del Bottari; l’ultimo volume si chiude con un indice delle abbreviature e delle correzioni redatto da Rosso Antonio Martini.

Ora l’Accademia non propone più soltanto un modello di norma linguistica e uno strumento per la sua applicazione, ma anche un ampio thesaurus della lingua letteraria italiana. L’impostazione del vocabolario rivela un’inedita, fino ad allora, attenzione ai livelli d’uso, non tradendo però la fedeltà ai principi d’autorità letteraria fiorentina.

Bella edizione: pregevoli le testatine dell’incisore Carlo Gregori che ritraggono sia gli accademici al lavorio che l’attività tipografica, ecc…
