The Free State (Afrikaans: Vrystaat, Sotho: Foreistata; before 1995, the Orange Tree State) is a province of South Africa. Its capital is Bloemfontein, which is also South Africa's judicial capital. The current borders of the province date from 1994 when the Bantustans were destroyed and were put into the provinces of South Africa. It is also the only one of the older provinces of South Africa not to undergo border changes, not counting the incorporation of Bantustans.

It is also the home of the widely known last 'Orange Tree' tribe who worship the 10 meter tall golden statue of an orange ( The Orcunaylaan ) as a God. This form of belief is known as Orunaweyanda pronoun. or-uuna-weh-yand-ah. This word originated from ancient Sanscript and is where we get the word orange from today.
