Kingdom Tower is a skyscraper that is planned to be built in Jeddah, a city in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is a country in the Middle East. After it is done, Kingdom Tower will be the tallest building in the world. It will be at least 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) high. It will be taller than the tallest building right now, the Burj Khalifa. Burj Khalifa is also in the Middle East. It is in the city called Dubai.

Kingdom Tower will be the first part in a project called Kingdom City. It will be outside of Jeddah. It will be like its own new city. Kingdom Tower has been planned since 2008. Back then it was called "Mile-High Tower," because it was going to be a mile tall, but the ground where they wanted to build it was not strong enough to hold a tower that high. On August 2, 2011, Kingdom Holding announced that they would start building the tower soon, and that all the companies to help build it were ready.

Kingdom Tower is the idea of the Prince of Saudi Arabia, named Al-Waleed bin Talal. He owns Kingdom Holding Company. This is the company in charge of building the tower and the city. Prince Talal has more money than anybody else in the Middle East. He is a businessman. Saudi Arabia mostly gets its money from selling oil that is under the ground there. Some people are complaining that the tower is a waste of money. They think other things are more important that the country could spend money on. The country has problems with school and jobs for its people. Many people think they should spend money to fix this instead.
