The Cinque Terre (Italian pronunciation: [ˈtʃiŋkwe ˈtɛrre]; Ligurian: Çinque Tære; meaning "Five Lands") are a coastal area within Liguria, in the west of La Spezia Province. There are five small towns within Cinque Terre and their names are (from west to east): Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.
In 1997, the Cinque Terre became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[1]
Vernazza is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy").[2]

Important Italian writers and poets wrote about the Cinque Terre.

Eugenio Montale,[5] Gabriele D'Annunzio and others wrote about them too.

Some scenes from the 2013 movie The Wolf of Wall Street by Martin Scorsese were filmed in the Cinque Terre.
The 2021 Disney/Pixar movie Luca is set in a fictional town, Portorosso, inspired by the Cinque Terre.[6]

The fictional town Sapienza from the 2016 videogame Hitman is inspired by Vernazza.[7]
