LA Law Library

LA Law Library is the second largest public law library in the United States behind the Law Library of Congress. It has about 1 million print volumes or equivalents, including information in their databases, journals, and gazettes.

The library is now located at 301 W 1st St in downtown Los Angeles.

It was started in 1891 by local attorneys. For its first 60 years, it was located in the courthouse on Hill Street. Later, they built the current building. It took from 1951-1953 to finish it. An addition was built in 1969-1970.
