St. Martin's Island is a small island (about 8 square kilometres) in the northeast of the Bay of Bengal. It is about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf peninsula, and is the southernmost part of Bangladesh. There is a small connected island that is separated at high tide, called Chhera Island. It is about 8 km west of the northwest coast of Myanmar, at the mouth of the Naf River.

Saint Martin's Island, located off the southeastern coast of Bangladesh, primarily features the following soil types:

  1. Sandy Soil: Given its coastal nature, Saint Martin's Island has a significant presence of sandy soil. This type of soil is characterized by its loose texture and high drainage capabilities, making it prevalent in beach and dune areas.
  2. Coral-derived Soil: The island is known for its coral reefs, and as a result, the soil often contains fragments of coral and shell material. This coral-derived soil is typically calcareous, contributing to its unique texture and mineral composition.
  3. Alluvial Soil: Alluvial soil deposits are found in various parts of the island, particularly in areas influenced by tidal actions and sedimentation from nearby rivers. This type of soil is generally fertile and supports diverse vegetation
