Emmanuelle Marie Charpentier was born on December 11, 1968 in France.

Biography

She studied biochemistry and microbiology at the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, and do a theory in 1995 to get a PhD from the Pasteur Institute, and then post- doctorates from the USA. From 2002-2009 she worked in Vienna. In Austria, she was an assistant professor before moving to Swedan to led a research team at the university of Umea. In 2009 she worked with Jennifer Doudna from the University of Berkeley. Jennifer Doudna is famous for her work on the domain of genetic engineering. Since 2015 she is a director of the Max Planck Institute for infection Biology in Germany. She is interested in understanding molecular mechanisms governing the interaction of gram positive pathogens with their hosts. Emmanuelle Charpentier was nominated for a Nobel Prize, for her work in the field of genetic engineering.
