Mahidol Adulyadej (1892-1929) was former prince and a member of the Thai royal family. He was the father of Thai kings Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII) and Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). He is known as the Father of modern medicine and public health in Thailand.[1]

He was born in 1892 in Bangkok. He was the 69th child of King Chulalongkorn.

Education[change | change source]

He studied at the Royal Prussian Military Preparatory College and the Imperial Military Academy in Germany. Later In 1916, he went to the United States to study public health at Harvard University. He earned a certificate in public health in 1921.[2]

Personal life[change | change source]

In 1920, he married Princess Srinagarindra. He died in 1929 at the age of 37 due to kidney disease.[3]
