Hi @TDKR_Chicago_101 and @ShadowBallX - On this article I see two different issues.
- Why is 2021 Association of Football listed as a related page? It really has nothing to do with the deaths of 2021 as the article is completely different. I really can't think of any current related pages other than maybe COVID-19 for 2021 deaths that should be listed there. Thoughts?
- Why do we have a section for Nobel Prizes? Most of the deaths, if they have a nobel prize, usually have it already linked either in the short list on this page or on their respective page. I think we should remove this. Thoughts?
Thanks! PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 17:25, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @PotsdamLamb: In terms of the 2021 Association of Football listed as a related page, I can see why it was added per my comments on my talk page but I can also see PL's argument. I'm okay with either direction. In terms of the Nobel Prize section, I'm assuming you mean the Nobel Prize section in 2021. Before at Enwiki they listed the Nobel winners awarded in the respective year of the page they're on. I can see why since the Nobel Prize is a highly prestigious award and listing the winners of that award everywhere would be very informative for the page. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:28, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @TDKR Chicago 101 I can understand that but when a death is listed (as an example) TKDR Chicago 101, 2 August 2021, died of Wikiboredom. He was a Nobel Prize Winner in 2020 for the most edits in one day without a single revert. *link is not correct just throwing it there as an example*. I think it is better than a section that just has the links to the pages. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 17:32, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @PotsdamLamb: Oh I see your argument. So in 2021 you would prefer to see "September 20 – John Forbes Nash Jr. wins the Nobel Prize in Chemistry" instead of a section listing the winner? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:35, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @TDKR Chicago 101 Close - The Nobel section doesn't list people, just links to the pages. So why not make it easier (I am only talking on this page with the deaths) where we would have something like "September 20 - John Forbes Nash Jr., won the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, died in a car accident on 35 September 1996.<insert reference here>" - That is my thought. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 17:40, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @PotsdamLamb: Well for now the reason why they are linked to just the pages is because, obviously, there are no winners announced yet. By the end of October (I believe that's when the winners are announced), it'll look more like 2020's Nobel Prize winners section. Also for clarification, you are not talking about how the deaths are listed here are you? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:43, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @TDKR Chicago 101 - So for example on Deaths_in_July_2021#2, when listing someone, we can say they won a NPP or Nobel anything in the item with them, like previously listed. This way as they are reading the list by day, "oh they got a Nobel, here is the link, let me click on it and see why and what they did" - Now I also see that maybe the Fluke with the Football related is that it is not pointing to the right page it should be going to 2021 in association football deaths and not 2021 in association football. - @PotsdamLamb: Okay I have a better image. The reason why it's not done like that its really per enwiki. I've been following their model since the first deaths page I've edited which I think maybe Deaths in 2012 or 2013 (don't remember). But when a Nobel recipient dies it is linked to the respective prize they've received example: "Steven Weinberg, 88, American theoretical physicist (Electroweak interaction), Nobel Prize winner (1979).[ref]" I believe its better this way because its short and cuts to the chase. Afterall this page is mainly a list instead of a full sentence of who that person was/did. Thereby if the reader is curious about said person, they could always click on the article. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 18:00, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @TDKR Chicago 101 Correct and that was what I was saying. I was trying to understand why there is a whole section that says Nobel Prize Winners and links to the pages like Winners in Chemistry, in Literature, etc. To me the page gets pretty long by the end of the month and it is redundant. PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 18:04, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @PotsdamLamb: I can see that argument, but that's how enwiki names nobel winners in their deaths page and it makes sense, cuts to the chase and its short like the other entries. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 18:07, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- We don't have to be like them :) PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 18:09, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @PotsdamLamb: True, but also if we were to follow your example, the entries would be long and not follow the other entries such as Academy/Emmy/Grammy winning entertainers or an Olympic medalist. Following that the entries would be too long and make this page even longer than it has to be. But I do see your argument. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 18:13, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @TDKR Chicago 101 okies you win lol I see your points PDLTalk to me!OMG, What have I done? (Pronouns: He, him, his) 18:15, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @PotsdamLamb: I certainly see your points too 100% PL! Thanks for your comments too! I'm okay with removing 2021 Association of Football deaths from related pages. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 18:25, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
