Should there be a section for the xkcd comic that refers to the Simple English Wikipedia?--Rvolz (talk) 13:56, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's negatively publicity but we need to be neutral. DJDunsie (talk) 18:28, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To me, it's not negative at all. 70.29.75.104 (talk) 04:14, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

People with learning disabilities[change source]

I have changed the phrase "adults who find it quite often hard to learn" to "people with learning disabilities". This phrase was needlessly wordy and euphemistic and already redirected to the Wikipedia page on learning disabilities, which is not a derogatory term.

Oops, I thought I was on regular English wikipedia, I now see that I am on Simple English Wikipedia, which may explain the awkward phrasing. I will revert and allow somebody who knows the subject better to make this decision.

Pages on technical subjects[change source]

I think we should acknowledge the fact that Basic needs extensions for technical subjects. Something like

"Technical subjects may use some terms which are not simple. Every effort will be made to explain these terms in simple language".

I'll agree that there are agree a lot of controversial issues in this article, and, this should be fixed.

HiPeople (talk)

It'll have as many references as it needs. Theroux721 (talk) 18:58, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to contribute to the Simple English Wikipedia?[change source]

Shouldn't that be mentioned in the article/starting page? Thy & congrats for the initiative. --SvenAERTS (talk) 10:30, 13 March 2016 (UTC) OLPC community - One Laptopschool Per Child.[reply]

This page is different from Wikipedia:Simple start. eurodyne (talk) 22:34, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Start year is inconsistent[change source]

The summary says that Simple Wikipedia was created in 2001. Later on in the body of the article, the entry states that Simple Wikipedia was started in 2003. If there are two important dates of note, their differences should be stated more clearly. Kamensky~enwiki (talk) 09:02, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See my comment on EnWiki: There may be a difference between people talking about creating the project, and the first article being created, after the infrastructure has been set up. I am around since 2006, or so, an I am probably the longest-standing editor of SEWP who is still active. --Eptalon (talk) 09:36, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Eptalon: I modified the language a little based on your reply, to make it more consistent. Do see if I get what you are saying correctly. --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:58, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"When Simple English Wikipedia started making pages and allowing changes in 2003, the English Wikipedia already had 150,000 articles. . . . Simple English Wikipedia started on September 18, 2001[3]and is the 47th largest Wikipedia, as of January 2023.[4]" It still looks inconsistent. Kdammers (talk) 01:06, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

US Road System[change source]

So a lot of roads are missing articles, including most US routes, some interstates, and more. I am suprised the Garden State Parkway made it and not the New York Throughway. Can anyone make some articles? I am not very good at them. Gale5050 (talk) 19:53, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Gale5050: Articles get created when someone feels like creating them. It isn't because the subject isn't significant. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:29, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, so no one felt like it? I see. Gale5050 (talk) 13:30, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gale5050: If you feel like creating a good reputable article, you are welcome to create articles. You can also request them at WP:RA. --Examknowtalk 13:35, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Gale5050: Yes. People usually create articles about they are interested in, and everyone has their own interests. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:09, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

simple Spanish Wikipedia[change source]

i am learning Spanish as a second language. i am having difficulty with the Spanish Wikipedia. can we have a similar Wikipedia in simple Spanish.Huzaifa abedeen (talk) 10:56, 2 October 2020 (UTC)--Huzaifa abedeen[reply]

@Huzaifa abedeen: You woyld need to ask that at m:Requests for new languages, not here. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:04, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, this has been rejected four times there, with a heavy-handed slap down.Kdammers (talk) 15:13, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To my konwledge, Simple English is the only "simplified" language Wikipedia there is. I know that there are (were?) gorups lobbying for simplified French, and perhaps Simplified German. Apart from geting it as a Wikimedia project, the question is also, how to find like-minded people who would contribute... Eptalon (talk) 15:59, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of content[change source]

Hello there. An IP user keeps removing the content on this article, and wants to have a discussion about the content added, saying that the content is poorly sourced and controversial although they have also removed the "s" from "References", removed the fact about the Simple English Wikipedia being written at a basic level of English and they have also removed the information about when the Simple English Wikipedia was founded, which was sourced and not controversial at all. To me, this looks like very bold yet disruptive removals of content across multiple articles from a single IP user, despite others disagreeing with them. But an edit war is starting to form, so I think it's better we discuss this issue here. Pinging @Hulged, Kolva, SCP-2000, and MathXplore: some people who have recently edited the page. Regards, --Ferien (talk) 17:54, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And all the content they are removing can be seen here --Ferien (talk) 17:58, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I find that this article is supposed to be a introduction to the Simple English Wikipedia, not a full fledged article on what it is. Kolva (talk) 18:09, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kolva, the introduction is probably located at WP:Introduction.
This is an encyclopaedic article about the Simple English Wikipedia which should explain and contain much information about it given it should be properly sourced. --Hulged (talk) 18:24, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The content that the IP removed is, for the most part, good content. This includes external links, lead information, infobox information, etc., all that I don't see an issue with. Including some sourced content. It appears disruptive. The same has happened at Wikipedia. I believe it is best to keep the content and add sources where necessary, instead of basically blanking the articles. Vermont (talk) 04:48, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To note, the same has happened at Wikimedia Foundation and United Arab Emirates. This is clearly targeted. Vermont (talk) 04:51, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
IP ranges include 59.153.224.0/19 and 2405:4803:FF00:0:0:0:0:0/40. The latter was blocked by me two days ago, after which the former started making the same edits. Their edit warring over multiple IP ranges over multiple days with many editors is disruptive, and I've placed a block on their new range. Vermont (talk) 04:55, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
After a few minutes of looking around, this is an xwiki LTA seeking to cause drama. I'm reverting their edits. Vermont (talk) 05:00, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Vermont. I originally thought they may be trying to be disruptive but I was willing to hear their opinion on the page as they were willing to revert so many times and talk about consensus... --Ferien (talk) 07:20, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
