White, milk, and dark chocolate candies

Chocolate is a sweet. It is used in lots of foods like pudding, cakes, and ice cream. It can be in a hard form or in a liquid form. The hard form would be as pure chocolate and the liquid form would be in a drink like a hot chocolate or iced chocolate.

Types of Chocolate

There are three main kinds of chocolate: white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate. White chocolate tastes a lot sweeter than the other two types, because it has more of the sweeter ingredients in it. White chocolate has no cacao in it, but is made of cocoa butter. Milk chocolate is what people like to buy the most. It is sweet, but not as sweet as white chocolate. Milk chocolate contains some cacao. Dark chocolate is the strongest. It contains at about 70% cacao.

Is chocolate safe to eat?

Chocolate is safe to eat if it is not eaten in big amounts. Many people eat it often. Some animals cannot because they get sick when they eat chocolate. It is not good for them. In some ways it is not good for humans as well. It can help to rot teeth.

Ingredients

Chocolate has a little caffeine in it. Caffeine is the main thing in coffee that makes people feel more awake. It is in other foods and drinks. Chocolate also has sugar and Cocoa Butter in it. These ingredients make the chocolate taste nice.

History of Chocolate

Chocolate is made from the cacao plant.

The cacao tree was first found to be useful for its seeds about two thousand years ago. Early Americans used the seeds from the cacao tree to create a drink. This drink did not taste sweet. The important people were the only ones who could drink it. The common, average people could not. Later on, this drink was made sweeter and made into the treat that we know today as hot chocolate. It was made popular by Spanish explorers who brought it back from America to Spain. When chocolate was sweetened and made into candy, it became a very popular treat for many Europeans. At first, only the rich could afford chocolate, but later, after being mass-produced in the 1800s, it was available to more people.

Now, chocolate is in a lot of things and is sold almost everywhere.
