Deutsch: Kaiser Friedrich II. verlieh der Siedlung vor 1223 das Marktrecht und erhob sie zur Stadt. 1629 kamen Stadt und Herrschaft Mahlberg nach Jahrhunderten komplizierter Herrschaftsverhältnisse ganz an die Markgrafschaft Baden-Baden. Das Wappenbild erscheint - allerdings mit einem Fünfberg - bereits im ältesten, zwischen 1477 und 1534 nachweisbaren Siegel. Erst seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts ist erneut eine Siegelführung der Stadt zu beobachten. Außer dem auf der Huldigungsliste von 1811 überlieferten Prägestempel weisen alle Stempel bis in jüngste Zeit geringe gestalterische Qualität auf. Verwendete man seit 1895 etwa 70 Jahre lang einen unregelmäßigen Fünfberg, so befindet sich heute wie im 19. Jahrhundert ein Sechsberg im Wappen. Er dürfte sich auf den Ortsnamen beziehen, den man als „Gerichtsberg" deuten könnte. Die beiden Sterne sind möglicherweise das Ortszeichen. Die Tingierung ist seit der Jahrhundertwende üblich. |
