Object history
Deutsch: Das Schwert im roten Schildhaupt ist Symbol für die alte Hochgerichtsstätte und den seit 1332 nachweisbaren Sitz eines herzoglich bayerischen Landgerichts in Mitterfels. Die Feldfarbe Rot (Blutfarbe) verweist in der Heraldik auf Gericht und Landeshoheit. Die bayerischen Rauten im vorderen Feld erinnern an die Herrschaft der Grafen von Bogen bis 1242 und daran, dass deren Erbe einschließlich der Rauten im Wappen an das Haus Wittelsbach und das Land Bayern gelangte. Tanne und Hügel spielen auf die Topografie an: Mitterfels liegt auf einem bewaldeten Höhenrücken des Bayerischen Waldes. Mitterfels wurde 1968 zum Markt erhoben.
