Object history
Deutsch: Pappenheim ist der Stammsitz der Grafen von Pappenheim, die 1193 mit der erblichen Marschallwürde ausgestattet wurden. Die Verleihung des Stadtrechts ist nicht überliefert. Die Stadt stand bis zum Ende des Alten Reichs unter der Herrschaft dieses bedeutenden Adelsgeschlechts. Aus dem Jahr 1335 ist der Abdruck eines Siegels überliefert mit dem Haupt eines Mannes mit nach hinten abflatternder Stirnbinde. Ein zweites Siegel, das um 1340 entstanden ist und dessen Stempel noch vorhanden ist, zeigt im gegitterten Feld (also in Schwarz) einen links gewendeten Kübelhelm, darauf einen Mohrenkopf mit Stirnbinde und eine Helmdecke. In der Neuauflage von Siebmachers Wappenbuch wird daraus eine Mohrin mit langem Zopf.
