Object history
Deutsch: Die Burg im roten Feld bezieht sich als redendes Bild auf den Ortsnamen Rottenburg. Die Burg war vermutlich ursprünglich in den Details der 1632 bis auf den Bergfried zerstörten Herzogsburg nachgebildet, wurde aber später mehrfach verändert. Im 18. Jahrhundert findet sich gelegentlich das apokryphe Wappen der Grafen von Kirchberg als Marktwappen von Rottenburg (so im Wening-Stich 1723). Das Wappen ist im Dreiecksschild im Siegel überliefert, von dem seit 1396 Abdrucke bekannt sind. Der Beginn der Siegelführung hängt wohl mit der Verlegung des Marktes von Roning nach Rottenburg im Jahr 1378 und der Erweiterung der Marktprivilegien im Jahr 1393 zusammen. Rottenburg wurde 1971 zur Stadt erhoben.
