Object history
Deutsch: Die Tanne ist redendes Bild für den Ortsnamen, der darauf verweist, dass es sich um eine durch Rodung in einem Nadelwald entstandene Siedlung handelt. Die zwei Rauten in Silber und Blau entstammen dem Wappen der Wittelsbacher, die 1386 als Nachfolger der Ortenburger in den Besitz der Grafschaft Leonberg und damit auch des Marktes Tann gelangten. Herzog Heinrich der Reiche von Landshut verlieh dem Markt 1439 das Wappen. Im ältesten Siegel steht das Wappen im Halbrundschild. Der Beschreibung im Wappenprivileg folgten fast alle Darstellungen bis um 1800. Michael Wening (1721) hat den Schild fälschlich gespalten von Silber und Blau wiedergegeben. Auf der Bürgermeistermedaille von 1819 fehlen die Rauten; in der heraldischen Literatur sind gelegentlich Abweichungen in den Farben festzustellen.
