Object history
Deutsch: Das Gemeindewappen vereint drei Symbole und verweist damit auf die drei Hauptorte Unterdießen, Oberdießen (1972 eingemeindet) und Dornstetten (1925 eingemeindet). Der im Wolkenschnitt schräglinks geteilte Schild entspricht dem aus dem 15. Jahrhundert überlieferten Siegelbild der Herren von Dießen. Die Dießer sind vom 12. bis zum 16. Jahrhundert nachweisbar. Sie hatten ihren Stammsitz in Unterdießen und waren im Gemeindegebiet reich begütert. Ihre Grablege befindet sich im Kloster Irsee. Die Mitra (Bischofsmütze) gilt als Symbol des heiligen Rupert und bezieht sich auf das Patrozinium der Kirche von Oberdießen. Die Lanze, Attribut des heiligen Gangolf, versinnbildlicht die bedeutende Wallfahrtskirche St. Gangolf in Dornstetten.
