Object history
Deutsch: Der Baum im Wappen ist redendes Bild für den Bestandteil Wald- im Ortsnamen. Im ersten Abdruck des wohl um die Zeit der Erstnennung als stat um 1300 entstandenen Siegels von 1320 findet sich nur ein Zweig; erst das von 1352 bis in das späte 16. Jahrhundert verwendete Hauptsiegel zeigt einen bewurzelten Baum, der seit 1555 als Buche bezeichnet wurde. Seit 1648 wird der Baum auch ohne Wurzeln auf Rasenboden, als Eiche mit zahlreich daranhängenden Eicheln, im 19. Jahrhundert auch auf einem Zwei- oder Dreiberg dargestellt. Das 1960 neu festgelegte Wappen folgt der Abbildung von Otto Hupp; diese basiert auf dem zweiten Stadtsiegel und zeigt in Silber einen grünen Laubbaum mit blattreicher Krone und stark verzweigten Wurzeln.
