Deutsch: Die Gemeinde Richterswil nahm das Wappen an mit Beschluss des Gemeinderates vom 6. November 1924.
Object history
Deutsch: Im 16. Jahrhundert tratt ein neues Wappen auf: in Gold ein schwarzer Pfahl. Es wurde gedeutet als Wappen einer angeblichen Adelsfamilie von Richterswil, die sich aber urkundlich nicht nachweisen lässt. In den Geschlechterbüchern des 18. Jahrhunderts wird dieses Wappen mehrmals wiedergegeben, doch in anderen, die Beziehung zur Landvogtei Wädenswil ausdrückenden Tinkturen: in Gold ein roter Pfahl. Mit wenigen Ausnahmen setzte sich diese Darstellung durch das ganze 19. Jahrhundert fort und wurde zum Wappen der Gemeinde Richterswil.
