Summary

Dieses Wappen der Gemeinde Steckborn basiert auf den Grundlagen aus früheren geschichtlichen Dokumenten. Das Wappen wurde von der Politischen Gemeinde Steckborn präzise definiert und in der Gemeindeordnung festgelegt. Diese Gemeindeordnung wurde nach deren Genehmigungen 2002 in Kraft gesetzt und ist daher heute die rechtliche Grundlage für dieses Wappen. Einmal ist die Ordnung durch die Stimmbürger von Steckborn an einer Urnenabstimmung genehmigt worden, danach hat der Regierungsrat des Kantons Thurgau, als die nächsthöhere Instanz, die Gemeindeordnung genehmigt. Seither ist sie in Kraft. Hier die Einzelheiten dazu als Auszug aus der heute geltenden Gemeindeordnung Steckborn vom 2.6.2002:

Auszug aus der Gemeindeordnung:

I. GRUNDSÄTZE UND AUFGABEN Art. 1 Gebiet und Namensgebung 1 Steckborn ist eine politische Gemeinde des Kantons Thurgau. Ihre Grenzen sind in den Grundbuchplänen festgelegt. 2 Gestützt auf das am 26. Januar 1313 an Steckborn von Kaiser Heinrich VII verliehene Stadt- und Marktrecht nennt sie sich Stadt Steckborn. 3 Das Wappen der Stadt Steckborn zeigt auf blauem Grund einen Ring mit zwei gekreuzten Stäben in Gelb. Die Stäbe verlaufen links unter und rechts über dem Ring, gemäss dem Originalwappen von 1585, das in Stein gehauen im Innern des alten Rathauses in die Wand eingelassen ist.

XII. ÜBERGANGS- UND SCHLUSSBESTIMMUNGEN Art. 49 Inkrafttreten Diese Gemeindeordnung tritt nach Annahme durch die Stimmberechtigten und Genehmigung durch den Regierungsrat in Kraft. Sie ersetzt die Gemeindeordnung vom 23. August 1998. Genehmigungsvermerke: Durch die Stimmberichtigten der Politischen Gemeinde Steckborn an der Urnenabstimmung vom 02.06.2002 angenommen. Vom Regierungsrat des Kantons Thurgau mit RRB 716 vom 03.09.2002 genehmigt.
