Object history
Deutsch: Bad Steben wurde 1952 zum Markt erhoben und besteht seit 1978 aus den ehemals selbstständigen Gemeinden Bobengrün, Carlsgrün, Obersteben, Thierbach und Bad Steben. Bad Steben ist ein alter Kurort und seit 1832 bayerisches Staatsbad. Über die Stebener Mineralquelle berichtet erstmals 1687 der Bayreuther Historiker Johann Georg Lairitz. Aus der Zeit um 1810, als Steben an Bayern kam, steht im Siegel der Tempel der so genannten Tempelquelle. König Ludwig II. bestätigte 1871 das Siegelbild als Gemeindewappen. Die einzige amtliche Abbildung ging allerdings verloren, sodass das Wappen im Schrifttum des 19. Jahrhunderts nicht erwähnt wird. In den Dienstsiegeln von 1871 bis 1930 steht der Tempel frei und nicht im Schild auf einem Sockel abgebildet. Entwürfe aus dem Jahr 1937 führten zu dem Wappen in seiner jetzigen Form, das mit Entschließung des Innenministeriums 1953 genehmigt wurde. Der Buchstabe R deutet darauf hin, dass Bad Steben ein anerkanntes Radiumbad ist. Die Farben Silber und Blau sind die bayerischen Landesfarben.
